yes. sitting on top of that hill, way out in the open, made him just that much more of an inviting target. Don't know where that Hummel was exactly, but it's possible the other tanks were in the shadow of the hill for him so he could not actually get a clear shot at them.

It's not that well rounded when the matchmaking throws you into a tier 9 game where the IS-6 struggles to even pen the sides and rear of all tier 9 med and heavy tanks.

Adam Lawrence True, but you can just load gold rounds then (even though people hate on it) which gives you a reasonable penetration of 217, instead of 175. You still have to aim properly to pen an IS-8 or STI, but it does give you a chance.

I can still usually make around 50K profit in a game. Even firing off a few gold rounds. On good rounds I have make 100K+ in a game. It's got a sub par gun sure, but I've still managed to pen IS-7s with it at long range. It's best quality is it's survivability and ability to dominate in a close scrap.

On what Jingles was saying about weakspots: I have been able to pen, with guns that have 200mm or more pen, the cheeks of the turret to either side (especially left) of the mantle. Although it is 150mm thick, it's fairly flat and easy to pen at close range with an Indien Panzer or Centurion 1 with the top gun.

I have had the t34, Lowe and the FCM 50t....this is by far the more forgiving of all the t8 Premmie heavies. With my aggressive playstyle, this tank has by far become my go to money maker along with the SP. Nice review and thanks for dispelling some of the myths this tank is weighted with.

IS-4 used to be Tier 9 and lead to the IS-7. When the Russian tank lines were split, the IS-4 was upgraded to tier 10, and the KV-4 and ST-I were added as tanks leading up to it. So if you had an IS-4 at the split, you got a Tier 10 tank "for free". That's how a lot of people got T-34 premium tanks as well - if you had it unlocked when they removed it from the regular tank line, you got the tank "for free" as a premium version.

Actually the IS6 is sloped back at 65 degrees in the front, so yeah, do the math with those figures instead. The sides are 45 degrees.

Cosine of 60 (sine of 30) degrees is 0.5, meaning a given thickness at 0 degrees is doubled at 60 degrees relative to the vertical. This is because the shot has to take a diagonal path through the armor, and at this angle, the diagonal (hypotenuse) is exactly twice the amount of the thickness.

One of the most underrated and overlooked tanks in the game. This thing in a T9 game is a nice support tank and in a tier 8 an absolutely brutal frontline tank. Indeed a jewel. I purchased one after seeing a 2300 efficiency guy handling his and bouncing virtually everything thrown at him. Once I knew it could be that good, I simply had to own one. Never regretted it. It's pure ownage.

Before 7.3 there was no KV-4 and ST-I and the IS-4 was the tier 9 Heavy. 7.3 made it an alternative tier 10 to the IS-7.

Checked it out on tank inspector and it has the equivalent to around 180 mm armor in front with the slope , with the cheeks being instant ricochet, and most of the turret being over 200 easily, some parts being about the equivalent of 300 mm thick. When I first tried using this tank, I really sucked with it, but now, I am pretty okay with it, loving how many bounces it gets.

The thing to do in this tank is to bait shots into your side armor, because it will look more inviting to shoot at than your heavily angled front. Because the side is closer to 125mm with slope it doesnt take much of an angle to bounce most shells.

its actually 45 degrees in the front and 60 degrees in the sides ( measuring from inside the tank in respect to the horizon). The head on effective thickness is in the front: +141 and on the sides +115. However the thickness increases even more if angeled. Plus there is the recochet probablity which happens a lot with it's front armour.

Oh yes the under estimated IS6, not a bad little tank and pretty fun when its in full bounce mode. It has a thin slice of spaced armor on the upper hull as well, right above the lower hull spaced armor thats over the tracks. It can be tricky getting damage shots on the side of this beast.

I'm not sure if the angle really is 60° but you have to subtract 5° for normalization, so the angle would be 55°. Calculating this with the 100mm armor that would be a 174mm armor. Keep in mind that when you're driving downwards or your enemy is just bigger and aims down on you, the angle gets reduced. Just reducing the angle from 60° to 50° (so 45° after normalization) will lead to 141mm armor. And with 35° only a poor 122mm will remain. This tank is greatly reliant on angle.

I'm nearing 500 battles in my IS-6, and I've never regretted buying it. The sloping of the armor looks like the IS-4. I think the drivers hatch is a weak spot, but I've never worried about it. Getting up close and personal is where this tank performs best. The gun is comparable to the KV-1S, IS and the IS-3's guns except the BL-9. As long as I avoid the T34's gun I can feel safe. I've taken Tiger 2 in duels bouncing their shots. Sidescraping works well in it, but tracks are blown off often.

The IS-6 is likely my most favorite premium heavy tank in the game. It's pretty much an upgraded version of the tier 7 IS with better rate of fire and armor, and about similar mobility. The 175mm pen can be easily worked around by aiming for weakspots, and brawling, which is what this tank is made for: close to mid-range combat. The dpm of the gun is great, and will scare away almost anything. For me, it's been much more fun to play than my T34. Definitely a keeper for likers of the IS-style!

I own all the T8 premiums in WoT. For pure fun factor, the Type 59 and the IS6 are hard to beat. For moneymaking purposes, again the Type 59, the Lowe or the T-34. You win money for the damage you inflict (at least in a heavy, you're not going to scout a lot in those), and both the Lowe and T-34 have great guns that do that very very well.

Yes please! a review on the FCM 50T, I have only about 50 battles in it, but by god is it fun to play, easily gets ammo-racked, tracked...the lot. But sit behind cover and peek-a-boo alot and somehow it works, as it is fast enough to slalom back and forth. Great review thanks

This tank was initially implemented to replace the IS-4 at tier 9 but due to lack of performance at the said tier, it recieved the rubbish 122 and a tier 8 premium badge. I did some snooping around and model-swapping, and was surprised when I saw it had a second turret with an infra red sensor, a 122 bl-9 and a 130mm gun as found on the IS-7. I have to say it looks absolutely gorgeous with a longer gun and teh pretty turret.

A tip for the is-6 is to hull down, even though you can't fire well there, so you get an auto bounce angle, the only thing to watch out for is arty, and the possible spam of HE.

In theory this tank is for fighting like an 1800's ship, just place it next to the enemies ship and fire your cannons into his side while your side has a chance of bouncing. It practice however, this tank is a battering ram to take the fire of the enemies so that allies can safely return fire. This tank would do well in the way Quickybaby plays his KV-4.

To anyone who is thinking of buying this tank as maybe your first T8, I highly recommend it. I have stood my ground in a good defensive position and held back 1/3 of the enemy team taking over 50+ hits and still survived. It is a beast of a tank. It makes money and generates free XP. Currently my IS-8 crew is sat in this tank. You can brawl with this tank as you need to have the gun up close. Just remember to still angle the tank when heading towards your target. Just a slight angle as you go forward will help you reach your target. Also if you find yourself against two or even three targets which are surrounding you, just make sure you take out the biggest threat to you as you can easily survive against lesser threats due to the great armor the tank has all around it.

with the normalization effect in game the angle lowers like 5 degrees so 60 degrees is 55 degrees in game. so the front of the IS-6 is like 170 or 160 mm

I know this is an old video, but I gotta weigh in as a 360 player. I adore my IS-6. Originally bought it before Russian trees were on 360, and my friends both got KV-5s, so I wanted to be different. Wasn't aware the KV-5 was limited and the IS-6 would've been on the tree, but oh well. I thought it was a badass tank as my highest at the time was a T29 or T32, and I giggled like a schoolgirl when I would bounce shots from T8s and T9s all day long. It's a small heavy tank and you can get right up next to someone and face-hug their hips while everyone else is bouncing off you trying to get a shot themselves. Even fighting T9s, I'm extremely comfortable with the armors ability to bounce, especially giving it a slight angle (5-10 degrees). Usually don't run gold rounds either and I come out doing 3-4k damage on average and cashing out with over 90k silver every match.

Hey Jingles I really liked your review, Just something I would mention that I have found on this tank that you commented negatively on. The first is the vehicle speed I think that was capped to match the Lowe and T-34. However that is defined by the transmission and not the engine or weight. I see the speed limit as an advantage because of this because it accelerates better than the Lowe and T-34. I do love this tank, It's a great Brawler.

Jingles my friend, tonnage/hp ratio is not solely the only indication that determines the max speed of a tank or any vehicle for that matter. Transmission and gear ratio's play a huge part in it also. Russians prefer to have tight ratios(i think you call it in english) which increases acceleration but lowers top speed. Also has other benefits but anyway. Hence why the IS is a drop slower then the IS-4 despite weighing less but having same hp. I hope that helped..

One thing I just realized about this tank. The right part of the gun mantlet is smaller than the left side. if you face your enemies on the right with a slight angle your turret is OP. Its insane but just look at this tank from the front and you`ll realize

I have the ST-I, and in over 200 games playing it, I've only had...one, or two shots effectively use the lower mantlet as a shot trap to deflect a shell into the upper hull of the tank for a penetrating hit. Shot trap shots like those are hard to pull off and really shouldn't be a primary concern about a tank in my opinion.

Great vid and great tank, but he forgot two details. First, the gun depression and elevation, which I assume is ok cause of the forward turret, but also the fact that it was built to test a very rare and advanced diesel-electric hybrid drive. The engine, which I assume again was diesel, drove a generator, which then powered two electric motors attached to the drive sprockets. Doesn't mean much for gameplay but still an interesting point.

I personally love this tank. The sloping makes the armour great and it allows you to get up close so you can effectively use the gun. I understand that the penetration isn't best however a well placed shot can solve that problem, allowing you to obliterate your opponent. The penetration is fine with tanks that are lower tier. (tiers 5-7) The armour also allows you to take more time in placing your shots. I one-hit killed a Sherman and a Jackson with this tank (both where at full HP)

Yes, true in most cases. I recently started using xvm, now I notice pretty often that you see guys at 1-3k battles driving tier 8 premium tanks, with few exceptions those will be the bad ones. Then you have a lot of players who are just average, since the premium tanks on the whole are not quite as good as an upgraded regular tank most other average or better players won't have a huge problem with them. And there are a few good players who excel due to being aware of the premium tank flaws.

I actually got this tank because of the review here and oh my god is it awesome! Not many people know about the weak spot or if they do don't have the accuracy to hit one of the few weak spots on this tank. Absolutely awesome set up as well really helps the tank become better and a demon to go up against. The only tank for me that is more fun is the TOGGGGGG!! That tank is just ridiculously fun though. One other thing I disagree with was how harsh you were about the turret traverse and vehicle traverse. It is 20% better than the T-34 for each and at least 10% on one of those specs on the Lowe and it is noticeable. Just some points I thought I would put forward.

The power/weight ratio doesn't determine the top speed limit. That's all gearing, and we can't see the stats on gearing in this game, the tanks just have speed limits determined by Wargaming. Power/weight just determines how fast you can get up to that top speed. It's all about acceleration. It's the same with drag cars. Very fast for the 1/4 mile; incredibly quick 0-60 times. But they're geared for drag racing, and so can't sustain speeds much over 120-130mph, despite enormous power and low weight.

As a person who owns this tank, If you are an good to elite player, 1, 2, or 3 of these platooned with gold rounds is an absolute troll tank.. I use my FCM and T34 and Type 59 as my main credit grinders (FCM seems to be my best xp tank) and the IS-6 I run with 25 gold rounds... and just pummel teams... best part... I still make 20-40k a match depending on how well I did.. Absolutely love this tank!

I have the Lowe, and I love it... but no, I can't agree with that. Great gun, and amazing armour if you position yourself well (hull down, it is a god, but always cover the lower plate), but the thin is SO SLOW you can't hope to help a weak flank. It will always be too late to go back and reset. Unless you play super conservative, you have to commit to a flank and deal with it.

More of a brawler than all of those other tanks. Has the speed, gun, and armor if you angle it on the fly correctly. While the Lowe and T34 are known more as snipers. For the Lowe's accuracy and the T34's armor and gun but slow lurking nature.

IS-6 has that nasty ammo that cost about 1k per shot. It is fine if the penetriation is good, but as far as making money, I prefer T26E4, and I have it. Also, T26E4 is a lot cheaper. Jingles, just want to help you clarify/ correct some points you said in the first video, The Hummel did not fire on the cluster because of his position, I would have guessed he set up near the forest, but moved near his base to try to defend it, (Of course he didn't goto the farm because he might have gotten lit. You bounced the t54 because you hit the flat part of his back, which at your angle was auto bounce. You hit the t34 in the hull but his angle made it autobounce, will continuein reply
