The test fails to take into account the Gunther Lutjens factor and his secondary boost, something the Premium French Commanders don't have. Bismarck, Pommern or GK with Lutjens is just amazing.

Smart! Honestly I don't use AR that much anyway anymore. Even at half health you only get 10% faster main gun reload. I rather have the secondary range or extra repair.

The big thing working against the Frenchies is their weak armor. If you were to get into a fight in a secondary build Repub against a secondary GK or a Schieffen (dear god) your secondaries are going to struggle to pen meanwhile their secondaries are going to be able to pen you everywhere. Its kinda one of those things I find looks good on paper, but in practice it doesnt work out as nicely as you'd like. Flandre too I feel is also kinda an exception at its tier. It has some crazy secondary DPM. In terms of like raw DPM Im pretty sure it beats out all other secondary ships for her tier. Still tho especially if you end up in a Flandre game as top tier where youre fighting T6s I think it would preform really well

@@nanowarrior01 You're not gonna outmaneuver Schlieffen secondaries raining down on you lol. And you really shouldnt be going into every fight trying to ram people, thats a very situational thing at best imo. I mean if youre teams doing good and its the end of the match I mean, sure yaknow but at best youre not really 'winning' that situation, thats just a trade. And theres a chance ramming isnt gonna work out, they can just dodge you or just dump torpedoes into you when you get close enough. Not trying to put down the Frenchies secondary builds tho. I respect it. I was just trying to point out some of their weaknesses, like how the french fries dont really have good armor, their secondaries pen isnt really that great, etc. I myself have started to do non-optimal secondary builds these last few weeks just for fun. The most recent one I tried was Sinop and thats been.. Interesting! haha. As long as you have fun I guess, thats all that matters Edit: a small typo

I totally agree with this. I just got the Flandre and she performs pretty well against the lower tiers, but in a tier X game she's absolutely garbage, her secondaries deal no damage against any foes with a bit of armor.

The French BBs that have the two or three triple 152mm turrets on the stern can really dissuade DDs from chasing you especially with the secondary range and focus fire skills. I have one captain set up that way and I also have him have a lighthouse build for DDs, that's fun too. (CoOp with premium ships, Dunkerque, Gascogne, Champagne, Jean Bart, Carnot, Le Terrible and Marceau)

Alsace secondary build is my secondary sleeper! Alsace secondary in ranked is amazing! The one thing is French secondaries wreck modules. It’s a huge psychological effect on DDs and light cruisers when it’s just raining shells and fires.

I’ve run secondary spec on my French bbs since they released because while they don’t have the armor to get in and tank they have the speed for hit and run tactics a lot of people don’t seem to know but the Dunkerque can actually get a 8.5km range on its 130mm guns and while she doesn’t have a huge number (most of them face the stern) of guns once the accuracy is built up they are laser accurate and it always cracks me up when a Dd decides to try and rush me from the stern only to suddenly get melted by the 130’s

Frech bb's always had good numbers in the secondaries but lack brawling capabilities due to 32mm armor plates and secondary guns easy to destroy

Also: Their secondaries can't pen anything, just like the Italians. This mean your entire damage comes from fires which is too heavily RNG based to be useful in competetive.

I still do great in french bb's with secondary builds. The higher volume of shots but lower penetration is great for dd's and most cruisers still. But you better rely on your main battery when facing off against other bb's.

they pen any ship smaller than a bb no problem. They are death to dd's that come in close for torpedo runs.

In the current meta of BB's mostly staying out at longer ranges I don't think the secondary build concept makes much sense unless your playing game modes that force you in closer to brawl. The meta aside, your testing sample size is too small. Your would need to run your tests many more times to get a real sense of what a baseline result might be. There is just too much RNG in the dispersion and sigma to get any reliable baseline in the results in a small sample size. I would suggest you would need to run your tests probably give or take something like at least 25 runs to get a reasonable baseline result. Interesting video though.

test is flawed. fires being the variable- which account for almost half the damage - means you'd have to run this test at least 3 times for each ship to get an accurate reflection. problem is that with just one run, you may be get abnormally high or low fires.....3 runs minimum if not more.

Before the commander reworked you could get Republique secondaries out to 12.1. I used to run that build. Now I run with the legendary module. Base reload on the main guns is about 20 seconds.

I got 677 sec. hits with the flandre in a spec ops and they alone did 160k dmg. 13 skill cmdr with gun feeder, GTG, IFHE, LRSBS, and MSBA.

I run a secondary build on the Flandre but not other French battleships, but that's mostly just for lols. While your point about IFHE makes sense, it would have been good to see it tested.

Try a full secondary spec'd Agincourt. Seriously, you'll thank me. Tier V, max sec range of 8.3 km. 20 152mm with 3 sec reload and 11 or 12% fire chance and 10 76mm with 2.5 sec reload. More accurate than German secondaries. Try her in the training room with some Tier V-VII and maybe higher. See what she can do against Tier X, lol

It 'feels' like ships like Jean Bart has solid secondaries, more so along the back 1/3 of the ship, which I believe is by design. The ship does not have main guns on the read of the ship, it is protected by the secondaries and seems to work decently. Not sure how the more typical designs are with their secondaries though...

I think a viable way could be taking the Module with the longer Sec Range. The problem is that you will have to give up the increased accuracy. But for the monty it is much fun. You dont need the extra range, you cant take the accuracy and you can pretty good go without the turret rotation. So I took the secondary range in slot 3. It will increase the range to around 9 km and they arent that bad. They will set a fire or two when you get closer to a ship and if there is a DD in range it will take some damage. Obviously most games they dont do much but sometimes this can be amazing

I run secondaries on my Champagne. it's fun because the thing is so bloody fast and the concealment is decent enough that you can zip in and surprise people and run away if you need to.

I find that the Schroeder is also a secondary monster....DD's of any line stand ZERO chance of living more than 30 seconds if they find themselves in secondary range, cruisers get wrecked in short order, and other BB's are basically campfires if they get in her range.

the republique and gascogne have 2 bow mounted 152mm triple turrets. i think that is overlooked quite a bit, that is a lot of secondary firepower without even angling whatsoever. These ships are made for running down ships smaller then themselves.

I adore my secondary Flandre. Fully specked in, with IFHE so the 100mms can pen cruisers. It fucks, hard. It’s a total sleeper monster because you don’t see them much, and if you can angle yourself right, you get a full broadside plus the rear 152s in, and it just.. deletes everything. Ranked T8 gets stomped.

Yep, that is the main reason i got the coal French commander. Sure the enhanced skills help on DDs, but seeing that angry beehive of dark blue tracers the Flandre spews out... Beautiful!

Used to have jean bart as secondary build, set them on fire engine boost in and secondary perma fire them... At least back in a time where you couldnt get rid of fires quite as quick and they were a little more sticky. But yeah main guns really Tier 8 and broke often, all to often when trying to brawl and her rather soft armor scheme esp when in closer.

It probably isn’t the best build but I love running secondary build on the Napoli. It doesn’t have as much range in Wows legends as it does on PC but I’ve got it 7.6 right now. Quite fun. Over here on console, Lepanto was tearing it up with the secondaries so they nerfed it by 40% in the last update. I also run a secondary build on the Republique and it totally does work. I can basically get Bismarck ranges

@@berk6775 yeah but its only useful in CQB since we suffer from the Class-Specialized Captain Builds. Wouldn't really build on that, I go full survival build since you are an amazing Gunslinger at Long-Mid Range with the ability to still hurt someone in CQB

@@berk6775 Yeah but its still missing the 2 skill for secs which really improve them. Angle also matters on targets unlike HE. At some point, even Pensaocla Sek can outdamage Napoli Sec on DDs when they angle. Its good to surprise DDs and fight some of but I still would go for surv build to have some more utility

Your experiment shows the time to burn down using only secondarys but in an actual game, your team is also going to be shooting that ship and your main guns should also be dealing some damage. I like to hit them with HE from the main guns before they enter range to start some fires and then the secondary guns melt them with more fires once they get in close enough. I have secondary builds on Repub and Patrie that can burn a ship down quickly if its taking other damage besides just my secondary guns.

I use French secondary only to improve reload time in Brawl. IFHE I use for 105mm German secondary guns, but not on BB with 305mm guns.

how many times of tests did you perform on each ship? The results might varies a lot depending on the number of fires started (RNG). The result would be practically useless if the test numbers is small (like 2-3 times each ship)

Before the rework, the Amagi was secretly more accurate on its secindares effective range than the Bismark was. So if you could get close enough with a secondary specced Amagi, you had better results than the Bismarck ! I tested it back then at 5 km range and on the same target. And of course, Amagi vs Bismarck. Amagi sunk Bismarck with secondaries before the Bismarck could sink the Amagi. Also, before the Japanese dropped the AP secondaries, a Nagato could out secondary the Bismarck against cruisers no problem thanks to those 152s (or 140s?) AP.

I have thousands of battles in WoWs and have always played French BBs. I have Flanders and run a secondary build and she she looks so pretty with those secondaries all firing. The damage is complete garbage though, I was basically relying on fires being lit since the small guns cant pen anything.

the french are fast , so if you're just stting still trading shots, your not playing it right unless your a JB. Also, why is the french always compared to a german bb, I dont see any russian or italian ships worth mentioning even. Compare your secondary republique to a secondary kremlin.

Playing Flandre with secondaries feels like having 2 flamethrowers bolted on both sides of the ship. The amounts of fire is enormous and it melts battleships! Not as good against DD's and Cruisers since they take less fire damage - the German more damage heavy secondaries do best against those.

shikishima is a great brawling ship, and its secondaries perform better than french, but still not as well as german. Shiki will make up for this in a brawl because her huge guns will still mess up a well angled german in close.

This isnt accurate, they both would be death before sinking 3 of them. Also other ships are tankier. The only upside to the french is the speed. If you with som1 they stand no chance.

Yeah... that quarter pen on the german ships makes them hard to beat. I think the only french ship i got sec-build is the Flandre. Just for the memes OFC.

the only thing that higher pen helps with is heavily armored ships, which most ships are not. I find the french secondary builds will burn down dd's faster then german secondary builds for example.

Well sadly the French battleships used to be rather effective secondary battleships However the commander rework killed it as they didn't receive the native secondary buff the germans got in order to keep their secondaries effective after the nerf to the skills Plus it was never as affective due to the anemic pen of the 100mms found throughout the line, only République had a decent time at secondary-ing but those are long gone, same as Shikishima secondary or any ships that the commander rework left behind

Flandre in Ops with full Sec build is easily the best BB for ops. try it. I am curious about getting the Patrie and seeing how it fairs. given its 100mm have 1.5 sec reload. would be good for anti DD circumstances

You are way too close. Range matters. German BBs secondaries start chewing you down at 11.5k. I would love to see a game where you could sit at 7k and use your secondaries for 4 minutes. Germans also pen 32mm with IFHE.

I partially skipped Alsace to get to the Republique, but ended up buying again once I got used to the sometimes annoying overpens on full broadsides. I have been running it with a secondary build, which still has a decent range, and its been quite some fun, the extra random fires make it quite fun. And you can hop in and out of combat with its speed, even if its not he most tankiest of bb's with its HE eating armor.

There are a lot of people knocking a French secondary build here and I can say this with confidence. You don't know what you're talking about. I have ground French BBs twice and always spec them for secondaries. The issue is you don't run up the middle, you flank. Fr BBs are fast and can get to places you wouldn't expect a BB to be early in the game. At that point you are encountering DDs and faster cruisers. The way you have to play them is aggressive but knowing when to pull back and keep your sides protected using islands and fighting as few ship at the same time as possible. Fr BBs with secondary builds are a thinking man's game, and most people in WoWS can't think to save their lives.

I usually play "The W movement" with French BBs. Go in "Pow! Pow!" > Go back "Pow! Pow!" > Go in "Pow! Pow!" And so on and on.

Always remember that even to this day, French BBs secondaries still got the same range than the german BBs and can still be relevant when well played. Thay even got a highter firechance and maximum damage than german except the pen rate that is highter for the german that also have a faster reload time.

That's stupid, play the German Battlecruisers then. They get almost the same speed, better secondaries, better survivability, better armor, torps, better conceal, better pen on secondaries, hydro... You can enjoy your French sec BBs, but c'mon, it's a meme and will always be a meme Also I always play Flandre with sec IFHE build (because it's fun), and those secondaries have no health. The module helps but +100% health of no health still gives them bad health.

Would not build an Alsace or Republique WITHOUT secondaries, period. They're just so much fun. You don't play them a la Bismark, you play them as high-tier French BB's - fast and carefully! Minimap is your best friend! But just watch destroyers and cruisers who think you're an easy kill melt - hilarious.... :) Especially with that 12.5 km range...

Full secondary Alsace is hilarious - it's fast, can't brawl for shit, but it sets fires like nobody's business.

I run a max offensive build Republic in ranked and randoms now and she is a horror. I do not take IFHE, but the captain has both secondary skills. I use the secondary armament mod at slot 1 but I use the aiming system and the main battery reload mod at slot 3 and 6. She has a 11 km range on the secondaries with the signal flag this way and a base 21 sec main battery reload time. I use the concealment and the brisk skills as well - but no tanking skills at all. I rarely do under 100k damage in any games and the average is about 120 in randoms and 100 in ranked. I do not nedd IFHE on her because the base pens are 21 and 25 mm which means that I can kill any DDs and farm any other ships's superstructure easily - with great fire chance.

It honestly won’t do much with the French secondaries. You’d get a bit more pen on the Republique, so a liiitle bit better performance there. But with the Flandre, and Alsace by extension, you still don’t cross any major thresholds with it. It takes the 100mm secondaries to 21, and the 152s to 31mm. All while HALVING the good fire chance that those guns have. Keep in mind it costs to respec commanders, and I’m not a CC, so I don’t believe it was worth it to test something that’s easily disproven on paper

the Patrie is my favorite secondary ship hands down. Patrie has the 152mm guns of the Republique with a max 13% fire chance every 5.5 seconds speced out, it also has 100mm secondaries of the Alsace, a downgrade in caliber, penetration, number of guns per side, and fire chance from the Republique 127s, but the twist is the 8x2 100mm guns have a Flat, Lightning fast ONE second reload! she fastest reloading secondaries that is also faster then a lutjens combat instruction, full secondary build Hannover combined together! her secondaries can reach out to 12.5km max. The Amount of fire sent down range with the Patrie is insane and the high rate of fire combined with the 7 fire chance makes the 100mm set more fires often then other french bbs that also have 100mm guns

Dude?? Have you ever played ANY of the French boats, clearly not. ;-) There is nothing called consistent pens, the RNG hates you always. The fire chance is a joke, ive counted to some 10 games in a row without a single fire. And yes im a bitter old man so dont take me too seriously........equip IFHE!!

French: Better at long range, yet much less accuracy. Really need to hit superstructures or get fires even with IFHE German: Effective at all ranges with 32mm of pen (IFHE needed depending on techtree). For broadside ships french are better, but german are much better at ships bow in/out

i hav flandre and must say it a pleaseant secondary brawler i have close cuarters expert instead of manual secondays tho for the main gun reload boost when something is in sec range

Naa, the repub is way less tanky and worse armor and weaker secondary guns profile than GK.
