Hey jingles and everyone else. Its alex snowflake here. Yes I was active in chat a lot this game. But take it from my perspective, this game was the last game of my night after I had just gone with playing about 20 games which I only won like 3 of. So I was a bit annoyed but at the same time I was in a good mood, so I was chatting a lot yes, sorry about that.

This is layman psychoanalysis, but I think announcing defeat can, and often will, demoralise part of the team; which makes them throw their ships away; which makes winning harder... or defeat closer to happening.

Honestly with every time jingles remarks “ if those were any other ships torpedos they would of been dead” I just have to counter by reminding you that most other ships torpedos at his tier would most likely been either 1. Too slow and the enemy would have A higher chance of dodging them. 2 would not have the range to even reach said enemy ship. Or 3, not of been reloaded in time to take the shot that the Oland could.

EU torpedoes reload much faster and reach their target much more reliably than those of other nations which are supposedly the ship's main armament, such as Japanese torps. Those trade everything for their high damage, which doesn't mean shit if they don't have the range, speed, rate of fire, or stealth to actually score hits.

Why bother with Halland torps and take 2 or 3 minutes to spam torps to kill something that any other DD could wipe off the face of the map with a single salvo. Those torps are fast. Besides, when they come straight on you it can be very hard, because you need to move twice: once to get out of the way and then again to turn thin. It's easier if you get them _slightly_ from the side, because then you just time it right for when you right the ship.

Öland having lousy concealment ? Its actually pretty good. Also dont forget the rear turret rotates 360°. Its a neat little advantage.

At 5:50, he's a lot closer to C and the Fletcher could go to A (which it is closer to) plus, C has a lot more islands that his Oland (which is smokeless) could potentially take advantage of, if needed. I think he's making the right choice in this instance.

1:48 No he hasn't taken AFT. 12 km is the torpedo range. 2:03 That's news to me. The Oland is on the stealthy side for a T8 DD: among tech tree ships, only the Kagero and the Lightning outspot her, none by more than 500m. She's basically tied with Benson and Hsienyang, and she outspots Ognevoi, Kiev, Z-23, Fantasque and Akizuki. 16:17 The Oland IS a particularly good T8 DD. Good guns, great AA, torps that are competitive with Soviet radar...and a heal. It's a very versatile DD.

I love my Oland! Fast 12k torps with a decent reload time, strong AA (so I can go flank and torp-snipe "stilled" island lubbers "alone"), decent guns + fire rate without the "pitiful" US slow high arching shells , rear turret is 360 rotating which is key for my play style, it's just maneuverable enough to do the shimmy shimmy shake: I take both steering/rudder-shift-time modules: yes I give up concealment for maneuverability as I've found that with CVs in the game concealment is a quickly lost attribute and the shimmy shimmy shake is a "key escape attribute" for DDs, it even counters radar although, I've got to run like hell and maybe heal too lol. Maneuverability is also very useful for "confounding" CV aircraft strikes. I do take concealment as a commander skill: I also take the basic firing training in my commander skills instead of adrenalin rush because not only does it increase my AA by 10% it also increases my main battery firing rate by 10% "always" of which for adrenalin rush you'd have to be half dead to get a 10% main battery fire rate increase and with heal I'm never 1/2 dead until I run out of heals. I also take the AA consumable rather than the engine boost. No she generally doesn't play well against other DDs in a gun battle but when I heal when they think they've got me it usually "persuades them" to smoke up and hide (especially when I'm flying India Delta lol) which is fine , I'll a-"Salt" you with torps and "Pepper" you with shells all the while shimmy shimmy shaking off your position-telling-"long-shots" whist you can't move much. Admittedly I've got a unique DD play-style and I Love my Oland and the Oster: "Both are my Favorites" and I do quite well with them. I don't have the best of the best stats but I collect a proper amount of points and I'm also "one hell of a disrupter". I particularly enjoy making CVs "pay dearly" for messing with me! Come get me CVs you're all Invited to a "splash party". I've got many well seasoned BBQs, "bring wings"! (DDQs lol) The Damned Cook! "Sea_Tiger_59"

The Eu torp boats are sort of like gun boats, high skill cap dds that can feel oppressive when played right. Also they can at least give cvs a run for their money.

Personally, I found that despite my reservations about the European destroyers when they were announced, I actually really enjoyed all of the tech tree (disclaimer: I got the Visby given to me in the event when they were introduced, so can't speak for anything below tier V). It's a different play style, but once you work out what you can and can't do, it can be very effective. After five years of playing the game, that's nice.

I think you are unfair to the Öland. Even as a fairly new player I think it's a very good DD that can hold it's own very well. Yes it has downsides but I reckon you emphasise them too much without balancing the upsides. Not the best stealth but not the worst and it can certainly fight a lot of enemy destroyers with it's guns. Carriers with any sense will leave her alone as they will lose half their squadron before they've even spotted her. I like mine enough to have put the permanent New Year camo on her as she's deffo a keeper in my dock.

And you put a 10 pt captain in her with a concealment skill and the Oland gets a lot deadlier. though to be fair, I find that the concealment with no smokescreen means I can get in without being scene, but getting out is...harder.

Imo Oland is pretty fine. I had a good time with this ship...provided you meet tier IX or lower.

I think the Oland is all about killing with fires and floods, as opposed to direct damage. I don't get kills very often on ships like that, even if I end up doing the bulk of the damage, because a low-health ship on fire and flooding is a priority target for a battleship or supercruiser to finish off. Also, this game is a good reminder of the golden rule of team-based PvP games: if you don't have something useful or positive to say in chat, don't say anything at all. This is followed closely by: don't get all worked up over a video game.

I had a lot of fun grinding this ship to get Holland. Getting 30 plus torp hits a round is both satisfying and frustrating. If the torps had high alpha this ship would be OP. One of my most enjoyable rounds in it was when 1 other DD and myself had a comeback victory. Luckily we was facing 3 BBs who we forced to need a cap. Fish in a barrel :-0 Just never expect a dev strike, not even on another DD.

Here's a thought: what if torpedoes in WoWs had active sonar? Like they had the ability to spot ships near them for your team. So even a near miss could be deadly as you're lit up to be shot at.

The öland is a great dd but it is, like the EU line quite different from other DDs. This is a great example of it being played well but in general with good positioning and well timed attacks it can chip and trade against most T8 DDs and kill them by way of its fast guns and heal. It's torps, again while weak per hit are easier to stack up hits than some DDs which makes for good damage in the long run. Those torps are also lethal for other destroyers, with upgrades and thier low detection range they are amazing for catching DDs unaware or in smoke, you get good at this because the EU line requires you to learn good attack routes and spots to hide so you start torping them and get those glorious blind dev strikes.

Oland torps are blistering fast and he fired them from very close range. He was also very accurate with his aim. Mino can see the torps but simply can't dodge.
