World of Warships- Rio de Janeiro First Impressions: An Actual Good Free Historical Ship?

Rio de Janeiro was (reluctantly) constructed for Brazil. Brazil had contracted for 3 battleships but were having financial problems by the time the third was ordered. However the contract was such that it was just as expensive to cancel as build a third ship. So Brazil decided to build and put the ship up for sale to recover the building costs. Eventually the Ottoman Empire bought the ship and it was finished just in time for WW1 to break out. The British requisitioned the ship and offered to return it along with a hefty rental payment after the war, as long as the Ottoman Empire did not join the other side. The Ottomans considered this an insult and eventually joined the Central Powers. Since WG has decided to offer the Brazilian version of the ship, do you think we can expect the Ottoman version (Sultan Osman I) as a European ship as well? BTW China was interested in the ship so theoretically we could see a Pan-Asian version. lol

'Much as I'd like to see the Sultan Osman I, how could it be distinguished from its other two iterations? There is already the Viribus Unitis at Tier V- it's barely useful with upgrades, but it's there. I don't know, maybe WG can think up a what-if AA upgrade for it along the line of Yavuz. As for a pan-Asian version...... personally I think the 26000-ton battlecruiser proposal (think the Tiger class but with 356mm main guns) from early Beiyang-era might have more potential......

It's actually bizarre. I have seen, in this year of our lord 2022, people sailing around with usernames like "hillary4prison2016" and variations thereupon. I understand being unwilling to shell out money to change your name, but one has to wonder if they have a public humiliation kink or something for keeping such a name.

A downside to all these obscure lines is the Captain issue Not many people want to grow a high level Captain that can only be used on one, maybe two, ships. WG should make Commonwealth, Spanish, Brazilian, and Euro Captains all be shareable. Makes just as much sense as mountain penetrating radar, homing torpedoes, and regenerating planes.

They have done that before to some degree, but in WoWp. For example, you could use that one-off Israeli plane and change the nationality to one of your choosing or keep the original or switch to any other nation at any time. The change actually made one-off's more valuable due to the planes flexibility to train nearly any pilot in that game. Perhaps WG will implement something like that in WoWs.

I love my Atlantico. Have so much fun with it. That said I wonder if these Brazilians will become like the Perth. Its all by itself in the tech tree and has been that way for a long time now. Too bad they don't let you use these as universal type ships for commanders of any nation until the tech tree actually gets released. Might not be possible but would be funny to put a Halsey or similar on one of these.

Ya know there is a buttload of good line ships, most refuse to do vids on them catering to only premium ships and only t10. I have premiums, bunch infact, but I play mostly line ships they are just as good when it comes to game play and I see better team play at mid tier than high tier. High tier seems to want to be hero solos.. Just an opinion, everybody got one.

Most of the line ships are very good at their tier. The problem is uptiering. When I play a T7 for example, I want it to fight other T7. Not T9 ships.

I think the problem is tech tree ships are mostly boring and fairly samey within ship classes until tier 7-8 where they start to become very distinct from one another. There are of course exceptions and differences at lower tiers but there wouldnt be all that much to talk about and low tier gameplay is mostly uninteresting to watch with some exception. Most of them just aren’t interesting to talk about or watch.

I don't even bother with the AP on this ship. The HE is capable of getting citadels on cruisers out to 15km and are super accurate at range with a flat horizontal spread that is perfect for ships showing broadsides. The only downside (other than no AA) is when you are shooting ships nose-on. That flat horizontal spread means all your outside guns will hit nothing but water. One of my favorite mid-tier ships and my favorite mid tier BB.

Well I've learned to be quite patient with Agincourt and mostly shoot ap, because it's just so satisfying to delete unexpecting cruisers or even smash tier VII battleships with 15000k+ (if you have the luck) from close range, you just have to know where to shoot. I had this match where in three salvos I deleted 3 ships and basically won the flank by myself. So I really recommend to stick to ap, even if it's shit, bad ap doesn't matter with 14 guns.

i really had a blast so far with this ship, just spamming the HE for guns around and make the enemy ships keeping on burning, takes a little longer to reload but not that much, forget about AP rounds just stick to the HE spamming...

I would not call a 9 inch main belt "well protected." It has the same armor as the HMS Tiger but in a less efficient layout. If not for the distributed armor scheme, both RDJ and Agincourt would have had at least 12 inch main belts if they didn't have that useless bow and stern waterline armor. 9 inches of armor but the thing has no speed at all. Tisk tisk. Had it used that weight on the main belt and deck armor instead, those ships would have been beasts that could dish it out and take a beating.

I must admit that I really like this ship! Really entertaining indeed, but at the same time annoying. Few cons: - no aa whatsoever XD - it is ultimate brick ship. Slow, terrible handling - if you choose wrong flank, there's no way to chase other ships and change your miserable situation. But under the range of 12 to 10 kilometers cruisers are melting under fire.

Yesterday I played Minnesota, killed 9 planes in one single carrier attack, and it still dropped 2 torps on me after that... so yeah, AA is useless. What is the point of killing the planes, if they still drop torps on you? Wargaming is more like "let's just make a mechanic where we give everyone XP, no matter how and what they play.." PS. I don't see the point of buying any T5 ships, when I have Giulio Cesare...

Free means you don't have to pay physical cash for it for the Doubloons. You can earn Coal for free instead and then get it for free. Unlike Rio De Janeiro, Agincourt cannot be bought with Coal, so it's more of a relief but at the same time a let down since it's not a British ship.

@@DD-qn8nj It does not cost you anything to get Coal. You get 3 free coal containers per day. It might take you awhile to get the amount of coal you need. But it still costs NOTHING to do. Unless you want to pay for a premium account to get more XP per battle. Then you can get the 3 containers quicker.

We just played 'The Rio de Janeiro' and its another sad ship for us in the Puget Sound Fleet. A bit worthless, boring, slow, weak and just like 99% of the games assets. We have 425 ships in port and again 99% are garbage scow's. But: they are all 'balanced'. We like but 4 ships in the port fleet.
