Love it, Sal! I think being or feeling old has little to do with chronological age but rather a certain state of mind. Sadly, it's one some inhabit as early as their teens, while others such as yourself (and me too!) will hopefully never experience it--even if we're lucky to hit 100!

I had this on vinyl album in the eighties. I didn't know anyone who listened to world party but at the time I lived in the sticks. I could put my stereo speakers on the front porch when Dad was out of town and crankup World party and the PoGues for the cows, squirrels, birds, skunks,cats, coyotes ,,deer,frogs,geese,trees and fish to listen to. I have to say that a lot of the time it is just me making the racket! But a lot of tracks contain performances from quite a few musicians. It's a kind of floating feast! On this track there are performances from Chris Whitten on Drums (Waterboys, Julian Cope, Dire Straits, Paul McCartney) Jeff Trott on slide guitar (Wire Train, Sheryl Crow) .......I am sure all the details are on the artwork......yes I know there isn't really any artwork now apart from the cover shot......but that's another post!! All the best and thanks for your kind words....

Just listening to some of Karls songs and cant hold back the tears, his music was so evocative and inspirational. I remember first hearing put the message in a box all those years ago and feeling like I already knew the verses he had so cleverly crafted the chords melody and words to celebrate the influences he clearly loved and they were mine too, I felt connected to it and too him and I have to admit a felt a little jealous of his talent, he'd done what I had so wanted to do and a 1000 times better than I ever could have. RIP Karl ❤

I've loved Karl's music since I heard this song and Message coming over the radio on Live 105, San Francisco, in the late 80s/early 90s, when I was just out of university. And I got to see him play live five times. His songs helped get my husband through cancer, especially Sunshine. I don't believe in deities or supernatural stuff, but I'll send my thanks to Karl out into the universe, for what it's worth.

@screwyootube110 жыл бұрын
Mikey HotRod I was very early for their Troubadour gig, and first in line (doors didn't open until 8, and I had nowhere to go, so I waited out front, from about 6 or so). About a half hour after I got there, the band pulled up in a large bus, and got out in front of the main door. But instead of going inside, they walked down the sidewalk, and went right past me, and a few others who'd lined up. I figured they were heading out for a bite (or a pint, lol) before the show, as they didn't take the stage until 10 pm, and probably had time to kill, too! I didn't say anything or stop them, as they looked like they didn't want to be bothered. But now I wish I'd have at least said "hi", or "looking forward to the show" or something... :)

Great tune! Wallinger had once said "Rocks Off", the kick-ass opening song on the Rolling Stones' 1972 masterpiece LP "Exile On Main St" was the overall inspiration for "Way Down Now". Indeed I can hear it. Also, the "woo-woo" ending is a wink to the Stones' 1968 classic "Sympathy For The Devil" - the opener from their "Beggars Banquet" LP.
