After all these years coaches always say don't bend at the waist. And my defense was lacking. This makes so much more sense. Why have I never been taught this

They don’t like to because when they compete the opponents can study the fighters. Usually no pictures or videos are allowed when sparring unless cleared by the coach.

I used to get screamed at for weaving low like that, but I got framed and lit up when I did it the "right" way. I decided being yelled at was better than getting a headache.

Thank you so much! As a taller fighter I was struggling to weave because I’d always get caught on the top of the head. This makes so much sense and is much more feasible. Thank you again, excellent video!

1:49 some very good point. I use a stiff lead arm (like a long guard) to frame a lot especially on smaller opponents which are rushing into me. Not sure if I would do this weaving in kickboxing though. Danger of getting caught with a knee or highkick seems too great for me. But for boxing great detail.

People who say that "he is not looking at the target" are complete ignorants (and sadly boxing trainers are becoming more & more ignorant about what coach Tom is explaining). We just need to watch Joe Frazier, Archie Moore & all the old school fighters which used with great success what coach Tom is sharing here. Roberto Durán & Julio César Chavéz were amazing doing this too. Thank a lot for sharing your wisdom!!

This is excellent and you added a great explanation to why weaving the old school way can be a safer option than the other method.

Many boxing coaches teach their students by benting their waist and saying squatting by looking at their opponent. But no student can apply this in training matches. This technique is very effective, thank you.

Love the knowledge should you duck at the waist and weave on the inside but if your farther away can you bend at the knees or is that fundamentaly wrong I'll bend at the knees to slip sometimes but I've definitely seen Tyson do that. Idn great video also I dig what you said about Qawi and Frazier they definitely bobbed at the waist.
@Innovativephysiquedevelopment Жыл бұрын
i was thinking the same thing ted. i know for a fact as well that tyson in his prime form would do so since i have seen it on jkd tyson channel. parnell whitaker was another. i think the way to go is a hybrid between the two so you can drive up with the back and the legs. One thing to notice is that this is not advice from a trainer nor his student that have tyson legs to draw upon for power. interestingly jack dempsey taught the wait bend as shown in his book.
