I think the "D&D Veterans" from the last story were either lying or they spent most of their time playing a homebrew rules light version or just hanging about the scene and never actually playing or deeply reading the content. Also the wizard seems to be both a That Guy and an idiot.

The first story and the bit with the leeches - That's the opposite of how to repel mosquitoes. I imagine if you did, it would attract every mosquito in the vicinity (though I suppose they wouldn't be biting the rest of the party, but dude's asking to be exsanguinated via mozzies).

Story #1 - Yeah, Sven totally had it coming. No tears shed for him. Story #2 - Another, "WHY did the DM put up with this guy? Really, WHY?' As for the 'Real Man" stuff ...... Oh, please, his overcompensation was so epic that it was downright tragic. The DM repeatedly letting him back in should have been openly questioned - that decision reflects as much on the DM as on That Guy. Story #3 - 20 year veterans? I'm really not seeing it.

I had a Paladin that refused to allow surrender (not DnD 5e), he was a Paladin of battle and his religious laws preached that once a battle was engaged with a willing participant, it was always to the death. But I made this super clear to my party ahead of time and figured out some 'just in case' loop holes. If he downed an enemy and the party stabilized or healed them, that counted as 'to the death' since they would have died. If an enemy surrendered and threw down their weapons, he would try to force them to rearm. If they refused to rearm he would give them a strike of godly judgment. Which was basically a powerful attack using a class feature in a coup de gras, if they lived then it was determined his God found them worthy. And if it could be proved to him that they were being mind controlled, he would avoid engaging them to try and kill/destroy the mind controller.

First Story: Killing Sven really is one of those rare situations where dealing with the problem ingame is necessary. DM really should have reigned Sven in and its at least partially on them for not kicking them before Last story: As a long time gamer I'd say that group have been playing DnD so long they're bored and just messing around because they haven't realised they're not having fun anymore. *Maybe* a new DM who could reign them in and inspire them would be the answer but more likely all of them need to either quit or find new groups.

For Sven, i have no idea why the GM kept him for so long. He should have been kicked sooner. And Doge, the Wild Hunt is actually part of Slavic mythology. It's pretty interesting. As for story two, that murder-hobo was an edgy arrogant jerk. He also should have been kicked sooner. And the third story, i bet you the wizard was, or is a dm himself, and is used to having all the power to dictate the actions of the other players.

First story: Yeah no, Sven was getting murderered regardless if the player actually improved or not. The guy activly endangered the party and made them waste resources while harassing the rogue... he was getting kicked from the party or killed in his sleep and the player would have to make a new one. Was redemption a possibility? Maybe, but the charatcer has very "mad dog that needs to be putdown" vibes.

DM from the last story honestly seems really chill... The trait of empowering the players and going along with their choices whenever reasonable is honestly usually a good one, though it crosses into a passivity here. In this case he's sorta getting pushed around by a lot of really domineering, and frankly-rather-weird players. I could imagine he would be quite good in a game where other people are also chill

had something similar happen with friends when trying to break into DnD, they where twins, one was playing and the other was DMing, but it kind of seemed like the one playing would just bulldoze his way through any situation, get an obscure dice roll and win without any push back. For example, we went to an underground town to an illegal fight club, to retrieve a stolen item (Said item was a magically dagger, was was mysteriously conveniently the only side quest reward we where offered, and the brother playing was playing rouge). Upon seeing the thief, he said he was going to crash into him, causing him to spill his drink over them and blame him, getting him chucked out. Upon a honestly mediocre charisma roll, he succeeded, and was then able to jump the thief in the back alley with no opposition and steal the dagger. DM then admitted he planned for a duel in the arena to win it back, so I've got no idea why he just capitulated to a convoluted plan like that. For less of an issue, after this, we where told there is a secret exit out of town out of nowhere, which was solved by the brother declaring he was going to pay a person on the street to ask for it, which succeeded instantly. The secret exit brought us back to where we started, then I did point out we had to travel for 2 days to reach this town, how did we walk back in 5 minutes, the DM seems to completely forget where anything was in relation to each other.

There's no walking back "hey, remember that time I basically locked you out of our shelter to get mauled to death? Good times." Definitely wild that they let the guy come back so much, since it sounded like he wasn't much better in real life. We've heard stories of people who are garbage within games, but pretty chill outside of them, Sven seemed like crap both at the table and outside it.

The wild hunt is something that is baked into the lore of the dark eye. Every month in that system is dedicated to one of the 12 gods and has 30days. The remaining 5 days of the year are located between two years (in summer in that system) and are called "the nameless days". During these days.demons roam the nightskies and people usually stay indoors. It's a really cool part of the lore and always fun to play out these days.😊

Here's my step by step guide to remove a problem player. Step1 the second a problem player does something even slightly problematic. God smite their character so hard that they and any npcs in their backstory are removed from existence. Step2 ban the player from your server and immediately block them Step3 if you got this player from a dnd discord server used to look for players and dms then immediately make an announcement to all dms in said server outing the banned person as a problem player ensuring no other dms in the server are willing to recruit them into a game and thus saving other dms from this problem player

Last story is a dumpster fire. OP needs to leave that table. DM should have not allowed wizard edgelord to do what he wanted. RAW can't cast a spell, a vocal one at that, and then says he's going to use another action he doesn't have in the span of casting a spell to roll stealth. Followed by a feather fall, which is again another vocal spell which would break stealth. Vocal component for spells means a clear commanding voice used to say the incantation. Only sorcerers with subtle metamagic or someone with the feat to gain the metamagic, can cancel out vocal components/incantations. As a fellow DM, I would have shut Wizard down right away. Correct ruling, shut down the idea that since he's sitting no one can see him on the roof despite rolling an 8 stealth. He's in broad daylight in a crowded area and expects peole not to see him, especially on a high rise spot. Guards step in after he casts his spell and arrest wizard for using a spell that not only damaged the bottles but the people within the blast radius. Capital punishment for the crime since commoners only have 5 hp and most likely won't survive, equating to mass murder and terrorism. Any other player, if they chose to aide the wizard despite not having met the guy, would also be accomplices to the crime. Wizard doesn't like it, he can leave. As for the party, better idea to get them to work together from the start is to say they are mercenaries who all saw a missive to investigate shady snake oil salesman and met up with person who put up the notice. Rag tag group of mercs who take up the job and would eventually become the heroes/antiheroes in the story.
@zixserro1
@zixserro1 Ай бұрын
Second Story: On that second note, that guy didn't take exhaustion from not long-resting? If not, that's partly on the DM for not implementing that ruling, but even so, if the player is saying that healing via resting is "easy mode", then why does he feel the need to make things harder for everyone else by going out when everyone else is resting, getting hurt, and burning up the healing that others might need? It sounds like this dude's just a Souls player wanting to solo the game or something. Thinking creatively with 20/20 not-having-been-there hindsight, on that third incident with the assassin, if the DM had caught on that K was up to something, they could've done something where the assassin actually did strike and one-shot OP's character, just to see what K's reaction to that would have been, then rewound it through some twist of fate after giving him and the party time to react to the character not being humbled, but just straight-up killed. Like saying it was a vision he'd received of a future path that could occur, or some sort of spell effect that caused an illusion to occur that made it seem that the rogue had been killed. Or just straight-up DM fiat, just saying that it didn't happen that way, and the game would rewind to before OP was killed. The DM bringing K back into games sounds like it was out of fear. K wanted to go on power-trips in these games, and probably threatened the DM to let him in to play his violent murder machines. I can't think of any other reason that anyone would let someone like that into their games.

That or during the next session I'd craft a scenario/encounter that specifically hosed that guy's build and give the enemies an irrational hatred of "alpha males" in combat just to mess with him before kicking him out. So when it comes to Sven the Viking I must emphatically recommend not dealing with problem players with in game consequences. Problem players need to understand that their problem behaviors STOP the game. If they are punished in game, their problem behavior simply becomes part of the game. You don't want it there. Their problem behavior should be dealt with out of game with no further gaming continuing while they are being a problem.
