I’m born and raised in New Orleans but will be relocating in June. Everything you said is true. Us blacks are suffering here because of the low pay and terrible school system. I feel that’s how they want it to be for us but if we(meaning blacks) leave no one would come and visit because New Orleans culture is based on black culture.

@@CarmenSD If you are a heterosexual African American man Atlanta should be listed as one of the worst cities in America for you to live in. About 10% of African Americans that live in the Atlanta area are doing very well. These are guys like Steve Harvey, Tyler Perry, the professional athletes, and entertainers. Most African Americans in the Atlanta area work for local city government like the city of Atlanta, Cobb County, Gwinnett County, Dekalb County or Clayton County. There are so many broke African Americans living in the Atlanta area until saying that Atlanta is a top city for African Americans is a joke.

@@calmdown2876 I lived in Atlanta for 27 years after attending college there and I hear what you're saying. But.... the difference between what you're saying and what this list is showing is based on numeric data, not anecdotal subjective opinions. I agree all that glitters ain't gold but Atlanta provides more entrepreneurial opportunity than any other city in the US for Black Americans. Keep in mind, Atlanta is an oasis in a racist ass state and the impact of that state can be seen and felt within I-285. My family and I left Atlanta due to a number of factors but if you come to Atlanta with a plan, there are lots of opportunities there.
@calmdown2876
@calmdown2876 3 жыл бұрын
@@dadisiolutosin I am talking about the real numbers in metro Atlanta sir. African Americans do not have an extremely wealthy 1% like the Europeans do. African Americans have an extremely wealthy but very very small group of about .0001% which is an extremely small number of super rich. Baranco owns some auto dealerships, there is one prominent small African American owned construction company in Atlanta that got some local city government contacts. You have a very small number of African American businesses that are profitable in metro Atlanta. Then you have the entertainers like Steve Harvey and Tyler Perry neither of which are from Atlanta but have a residence in the Atlanta metro area. Then there are the professional athletes. Then you have a small number if medical doctors, nurses , professors, and lawyers etc. Then you have a small black middle class which consists of 2 income African American households. The local city hall government workers and civil servants workers fit some where between middle and lower middle class. The people that work for the local city governments around the metro Atlanta area do not get their annual incremental on time if at all and, because of this their pay is not keeping up with inflation. The total of the African Americans I mentioned above is less than 15% of the total metro Atlanta population. That mean 85% of African Americans in metro Atlanta are living hand to mouth, pay check to pay check. These African Americans can not afford adequate health care, housing or healthy food to eat. Do you deny this? if you do it is you who does not understand the real numbers. Over all African Americans are not doing well in the Atlanta metro area which is comprised of Fulton, Dekalb, Clayton, Cobb, Gwinnett and Henry counties. It is way worst than you think, but this is the reality of the make believe fantasy and mirage Atlanta truly is. The city of Atlanta has the most African American civil servant workers of the metro Atlanta area. There are less than 12,000 total city of Atlanta employees of which 30% to 40% are African American. So if you understand the numbers African Americans make up only 30% to 40% of less than 12,000. Fulton and Dekalb counties have the next largest number of African American civil servant employees at maybe 15% to 30% each. These 2 counties may have a total of 9,000 local government employees each of which of this 9,000 15% to 30% are African American. Therefore, when you look at the real numbers not the fantasy and Bull Sh!! African Americans are not doing well in the metro Atlanta area. Atlanta should not be on this list. Atlanta is a fantastic sham and an out right misrepresentation of the facts. Poor African Americans are being run out of the city of Atlanta by young whites moving in and fixing up old black neighborhoods. What I state here is the reality. I do not live in the land of make believe. Do you!

They rank at the bottom in terms of education, healthcare, high poverty rate...they are more dependent on the federal government compared to blue states such as MA, CA, NY. See...you people hate on Democratic led states like California and New York because its has the most racially and culturally diverse population, strong tourism industry (pre-Covid), best education, weather (California) The only thing those states lack really is affordable housing. Yes....Californians are moving to NV, AZ, TX...but only because its cheap cost of living. Not because its the desert (California has desert) or open plains Expensive housing is the reason majority of people move out of California.

@@catmouse2882 You need to reread my comment a few times. Like I said, most Republican ran states are better in education, healthcare and education except the Northeast. That's a fact, dependency on federal government assistance programs have decreased across the country. While the states you mentioned are definitely trash I can agree with you on that. The Republican ran states of Georgia, North Carolina, Texas and even Florida are doing far better than any Democrat ran state. The most diverse state in the United States is Hawaii. And California being ethnically diverse has nothing to do with the topic.. Texas is also ethnically and culturally diverse but so many African Americans and Latin Americans are thriving in that state because the job market is strong. Nobody is hating on California and New York because of it's ethnic and diverse population. I'm from New York City born and raised. The reason why people are hating on Democrat ran states and cities is because when Democrats are in office, the state goes downhill. That's why people are fleeing California, New York and Illinois because they not only have expensive housing but also taxes are too high in those states, crime has become a problem (More so in illinois than in California and New York) The job market is trash in those states. Homelessness, poverty and unemployment has increased drastically and job growth has slowed in those states. So when you compare it to Republican ran states like Florida, Georgia, Texas and Florida, Most Democrat ran states are doing horrible.

I fear that all cities are bad for anyone who is poor. Going elsewhere will only work if you are able to get experience and a skill and work your way up. That said, I wouldn't live in any of these cities. Work ethic and savings is the only way to go wherever you live. I still think smaller cities offer better quality of life.

By reading these comments, it has been brought to my attention that most people never had a geography class, or seen a map. OKC is considered a southern state. It is not the Midwest. A midwestern state would be “Michigan”. FYI Maryland is a southern state as well. It’s below the Mason Dixon line; and it never succeeded during the Civil War which is why it still remains a southern state. Your welcome.

@@marvinhagler4721 I think that you just made my point. Being born here, you hear the same accent all the time so you wouldn't notice that you have a southern accent in the same way someone who is from further north and hears multiple accents on a daily basis might. As for Calvert County, a few of my cousins were born and raised there and I can DEFINITELY hear the southern accent- MORE than Baltimore BUT I wouldn't expect them to hear it because that's what they hear most of the time. But more importantly, you can't let anyone who points this out make you feel defensive because not everyone who mentions this is making fun of it (I say this because that's the way you came across in your last comment - very defensive). The reality is that there's nothing wrong with a southern accent. Like so what? Frankly, I've lived in GA and FL before moving to MD and my family in NY tell me that I'm starting to sound like a southener. You know what I tell them? "Ok but that's probably because that's where I LIVE" and they leave it alone. If I were born and raised here and someone attempted to make fun of my accent - like saying that I speak too slow, I'd be like,"Well that might explain why we don't make useless comments like the one you just made - we give ourselves time to think about what we're going to say so that we don't make fools of ourselves." You know what I mean? LOL! All that to say that many people born and raised in MD have a southern accent and it can be heard by people who aren't from the south and while not everyone is making fun when they mention it, the ones that do CAN be put in their place...and who better to do that than a southerner, right? ;) Be well.

Nashville needs to be on that list. I moved back after being gone for 30 years. I grew up in the Charlotte North Carolina area and I thought Nashville was going to be like Charlotte, not even close .I am a licensed stylist (since 1992) and when I came back I was told to go to the black side of town and my favorite, we have our quota of black stylist. I never heard that in Charlotte. In Charlotte I worked in any kind of salon I want it because I could do a lot of services in Nashville they would not hire me. I’m actually trying to save up to move back to Charlotte. Wages aren’t that great here. Cost-of-living is around $24 an hour and very few places here pay that. I’ve only worked one place they got close to $20 an hour and that was it. Most I’ve seen pay anywhere from $7.25 an hour to about $15 an hour. So if you’re a single parent good luck. Most jobs won’t cover the average cost of rent. Also the police departments are not good as far as solving black murders and that I know from experience. My father was murdered in 2005 and we’re still waiting for them to solve it.

Isn't Black the right term, instead of African Americans. Color Americans have African roots, but are not longer African, but simply Americans. The same I believe applies to Whites. To say Blacks, separates the American people in ecnicity rather than country of origin. It actually forces you to be identified as Americans understanding, you must solve your internal issues within yourselves and Carry on with your duty and commitment with a better country your own and deserve as Black or White..
@MakeWay4CJ
@MakeWay4CJ 3 жыл бұрын
@@gmanon1181 1st of all, black (to some extent) is a color, NOT a group of people. Just like you calling someone white doesn't tell us where their people are from, calling someone black is not specifically denote their origins. So to answer your question no,....technically being called a color is NOT the right term. I also have no idea what your race happens to be or what you think the requirement for being African might be but let me put this into a perspective that you might be able to understand. Let's say that both your daughter and your son were kidnapped from their beds in the middle of the night and were forcefully taken to another country to be worked and bred like farm animals. Later on you got word that someone impregnated your daughter (which would be your grandchildren) and that your son was "rented out" to the other kidnappers to impregnate their female captives to create more slaves and as a result now you have many genetic grandchildren. Would you honestly say that your grandchildren were no longer a part of your race or of your land simply because soulless people kidnapped your children and remove them from your land? Would they suddenly not be "of your people" because they never made it back home? Because that's what you're suggesting when you say that brown people in America are "no longer African" because their ancestors were forcibly taken to America. The reality is that our blood IS from Africa which is why we are still Africans even if we're not culturally African. And because most of the successes of this country came from the blood and sweat that we spilled in the soil of this country FOR NO PAY, we also have the right to claim this country as well-hence why many of us call ourselves "African American". For people like you to suggest that we are now supposed to deny that our blood is African and pretend that we're simply Americans (when the only true Americans) because caucasians kidnapped our ancestors is not only an insult to those African-Americans who know their history but is an insult to the Native Americans who are the only people who should be considered true Americans.*****

I understand everyone’s experience is different. But, as for me and my family, we’ve done great in Memphis...for generations. My husband and I purchased a home before we were 30, and we live in a nice area with great schools. We actually moved from Atlanta, and have done better here. I’m sorry for those who have had bad experiences, but don’t assume that one represents all. There is no perfect city. There are people here who are actively working to ensure that more people have the experience that I just described. Unfortunately, people with the the bad experiences tend to speak louder and take every opportunity to throw shade our way. S/o to those here and in all the cities mentioned who are doing the work to make it better. Also, you must take into account the politics of a state before you judge them. A number of the issues Memphis has experienced have been due to the lack of support from the state itself. The largest concentration of black people in the state live in this city. I don’t think that’s irony. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I really think a lot of the South's problems over the past 10 years or so are people moving from big cities like Chicago, LA, NY, etc. in an effort to get their kids out of gangs, but it backfired. They just colonized, so black hoods are no longer as safe as they once were. People are also leaving for that reason, and there goes even more money. All I can do is pray for the good people in those hoods. It's sad. Peace. That said, I grew with nothing, too. While my brother used the Marines to get out, I picked College and my other brother became cook, then a chef. There are ways out, but it's hard. A lot of those small towns in the south will be ghost towns in 50 years, unfortunately.

Since when is Oklahoma the south? Its more Midwestern, imo. And even tho it may be in proximity of the southern part of the United States, anyone who is from the south knows that Florida isn't considered a southern state. Js. It's heartbreaking to learn the stats stated in the video on Memphis & New Orleans. Praying for the residents there. Much love

I'm from Fort Pierce. And I left back in 2013. Currently in Atlanta. Lots of jobs and public transportation. Good place for black people that's single and trying to grind. Don't come here looking for a relationship though.

Oklahoma would like to liken itself to being a "southern" city, but it's not! Oklahomans have not learned geography too well.
