almonds Straight up. If someone tells me a thing is collectable I tend to ignore it. The collectable toys of yesteryear were ones that weren't marketed that way, limited edition toys produced today are just gonna slowly rot in a landfill along with all the other crap. Hot wheels do the limited lines concept well, they're just less frequent than the standard models but come in the same boxes and cost exactly the same yet hold a higher value over time. Toy economies are pretty fascinating... And hilarious when it comes to funko pops.

I remember when I used to collect funko pops, I only bought figures for characters I really really liked and that was it really, I especially enjoyed finding ones that were considered "rare". As of now though, I find it very irritating whenever you go into a game store and the funko pop section is bigger than the Nintendo section. And funko don't seem to be giving up, they keep making more and more, even for characters and franchises that nobody will touch.. Also they're extremely overpriced.

Ehhh, I think Funko's work best on overly cartoonish stuff and/ or characters with helmets on them. I think the Overwatch ones and Garnet, Peridot and Lapis from the Steven Universe Funko's look quite nice for that reason (The more human looking characters look freakish as all hell tho), but the instant it starts trying to go with more 'realistic' series or focus too much on it needing to be a square head (see Dory above) is where they look the ugliest I reckon.

I will give you that one, but it's a bit cheaty. The original character is a squarish robot to start with. It has no eyes to turn beady and black, they just made his blue light a single blue "eye", which still just looks like a light. You can't be dead-eyed if you have no eyes. Looking at images of the figure now, it isn't even the standard Funko Pop rectangle shape. It literally just looks like a slightly more cartoonish standard figure. On a side note, I just googled for images of Funko Pops to see what really bad ones were out there, and I came across a Markiplier, Pewdiepie, and other KZbinrs. They are fan-made according to the website I'm reading, so my concept of a Pop-style Ashens isn't far off. :D

Honestly, the thing that makes the pot creepy compared to the others is the mouth. When it's just the two black dots on an empty face I feel it looks more inherently cartoony and you don't really think about the specifics, or that it's more of a basic representation of a face instead. I forget the name of it but it reminds me of how humans have a habit of seeing faces where there aren't any, like in car headlamps and power outlets and things like that (it's called pareidolia apparently). Its like when you look at a smiley face emoji or a :) emoticon, you don't think of it as literally a face with small beady eyes and a overly huge grin. When you add a detailed mouth though it changes it from an abstract two dots that your brain assumes is a face to an actual face. It makes you think that if the mouth is real, then the two black dots for eyes are also suppose to be real, and no human that I know of has pure black eyes.

First I want to say that they're a bit less in the states. Typically in the 6-7 pound range(But in dollars, obviously) at most stores aside from Gamestop which overprices them for no reason. There are admittedly some that are shit, but there are also a lot of decent ones and a couple really nice ones. The beanie baby argument is a bit flawed because whereas beanie babies were just oddly colored animals no one gave a shit about, these are based on beloved characters like Batman, Superman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, etc. which will always be popular(Or at least until after we're dead). Overall they're a pretty good alternative for people who don't shit gold bricks, because all the really nice collectibles are stupidly expensive. And to answer your question, no, not even the people who collect these want those ones.

I will admit I have a large number of Funkos (mainly Star Wars) and it's the same for me. I have little hope they will raise in price (some of the exclusives might, but that's not why I bought them). I bought them because I actually like them.

The worst thing about them really is that for a lot of franchises/characters they cover there isn't an alternative. Either figures do not exist at all or are ridiculously expensive. To be fair I still think Funko has stepped up their game in the past few years. Some of them look decent now.
