Worst Levels Ever # 30

Unfortunately, although there are lots of fantastic levels and stages in video games, there are also a fair few awful ones.
For the 30th episode special, we aren't just looking at one or two levels, we're going over EVERY level from the hilarious yet shitty Amiga port of ESWAT. I've known this game practically all my life, and it's time I showcased all its hilarious shortcomings for all to see.

This protagonist is an embarrassment to important armor guys everywhere. Getting pushed around by rejects and even getting killed by a God damned door. And he doesn't even get to claim to be smart either; he became sickeningly easy to Joseph Joestar after a while with the "hey, let's party" line, thinks that firing 3 bullets per single instantaneous press is a bright idea, and even starts his attacking deep into enemy territory where he can take cheap hits despite having a God damned gun. It's telling how much better that other version is when I try to Joseph Joestar the guy and he makes it fail. Also, averting cheap hits, showing things we're supposed to see, and freaking having music. And yeah, thank you for that abusive relationship analogy. I could make a point with it about how both games and girls have betrayed me too often.

So the first three bosses are; Big Ben from the SOR series with a shield(or those enemies from Shinobi/Shadow Dancer, made boss), Antonio aka the boomerang guy from SOR1 before he got swole, and Drake, the 3rd stage boss from Final Fight 3, also, before he got beefy. Wow, and the rest of the game is something else!

..Huh, I just notice that for the criminal profile of the last boss, in the Amiga version, it says "alleged very nasty person" instead of "alleged war criminal" like the aracde version. That's some..bizarre censorship. Also, the Mega Drive port of this game is quite different (It's almost an entirely differnet game!), and probably worth playing in its own right.

The enemies disappearing without a trace reminds me of Left 4 Dead 2’s German/Australian/low violence version, and how every special ammo type just makes zombies disappear without a trace. Since I was interested in knowing exactly WTF is going on, I looked up a longplay of the arcade version to see if it made more sense. And actually, it does. First, you see your cop arrest the perp at the end of every level, so they don't just disappear or die. For example, with the crumbling building, Dirty Duffy is supposed to be on the right with a plunger, and when you get out of the building, he surrenders. Rats Lee is in the monster truck that tries to run you over. Also, the arcade game has the ability to grab ledges in arm's range, but not jump range, and haul yourself up. That's what the stupid giant jump is supposed to be a replacement for.

i recently played this game several months ago.. believe it or not, for the first time. i remember liking the arcade as a child. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was a rushed launch title, but it came out roughly ten months after the Genesis release. im sure thats the case for over seas. Maybe it was rushed because they wanted to cash in on its arcade, but no. this one was just made as cheaply as possible to collect every buck they could. i enjoyed your review. it was spot on.
