@chandlerennis6884 ай бұрын
I think the biggest issue with the show's writing is that it seems to be intent on stringing the mystery along until the very end, but it hasn't really made the mystery very compelling. We have enough clues to figure out that Sol and the others did something terrible to the Witches and blamed their deaths on Mae's fire, so the only thing in question at this point is why they did it. We know that Osha left the order because of her inability to get over her grief, but it is treated as a reveal in this episode that she failed in some way and that her she has buried anger, but the Jedi are presented as so cold and rigid at this point that we never felt a need to understand why Osha left, and the way Osha has talked about Mae has shown that she was angry at her the whole time. We know that there is something mysterious about Mae and Osha's conception that makes them supposedly special, and at this point we can guess that it is the reason Qimir comments about Osha's power and everyone wanting her, but I'm guessing the next episode is going to show what that is about and treat it like it's still a big reveal. I think the problem is just that the writers aren't as good at writing mysteries as they think they are, and they are way over-using the "I'll explain... later" trope. Although, to their credit, this is probably the best "seduction to the dark side" we've seen: Qimir never forces Osha to do anything except when he is trying to anger her, he is just taking advantage of what he knows about her sense of morality and her curiosity to manipulate her so that she does not feel comfortable killing him or satisfied enough with his answers to leave, which just works so much better than every "submit to my will in exchange for power" scene that we've seen play out before.
@JamesSmith-io8sz4 ай бұрын
I think OSHA and mae being "special" because of their conception may have attracted plagueis and qimir to go to the planet. The Jedi may have been pulled there at the same time. The sith probably orchestrated their death and took the mother's knowledge. Mae just found her dead. Possibly killed by the sith. And we might be led to believe Sol had set off the explosion but maybe his guilt is not being able to stop their deaths. Though Mae was portrayed as pretty homicidal.
@The2ndQuest4 ай бұрын
I agree on the editing/pacing concerns- the episodes are too short. But they do seem to pace better and feel more whole (story-wise) when combined in pairs or triplets. They just more naturally group together that way. It really feels like they should have released Episodes 1-3 edited together as a movie/extended episode, and now 4-6 as a movie/extended episode (and presumably leaving 7-8 as a finale). To that effect, I still fully suspect that viewers who eventually binge this series will end up enjoying it a lot more than those of us watching it week to week. There'll still be the awkward breaks between episodes, but watching those episode clusters back-to-back will make the narrative links and pacing at least feel more whole.

It does feel like we need more time. But I'm also reminded that in the original film, in what - a day-and-a-half? Luke went from being a farm boy, seeing Owen & Beru 's corpses after being burned alive, to raiding the Death Star to save a Princess, to suddenly being at one with the force and destroying the Death Star and no one had a problem with it. I don't think the show has been written very well for half of it. But this is Star Wars - we never take time to breath. Only Andor did that.

Idk, this is the only thing that makes sense to me with the way the storytelling is kinda disjointed and vague. And the way the motives of Mae and Osha change in an instant. Like new hope, love empire, hate everything else till Last Jedi, Rouge One and Andor. This though hits for me. Also I think a good representation of the Jedi at this time can be taken from a quote from Dragon Age Inquisition by Solas on organizations being inherently corrupt. "you think organizations to be inherently corrupt?" "Given enough time, yes. To survive an organization must devote resources to maintain itself. Those resources accumulate until the original purpose, no matter how pure, is lost." "You make the Seekers(Jedi) sound like a mindless beast." "A mindless beast, no matter how mindless, will die and give way to a successor. An organization is eternal. There are always corrupt Men who hoard power for their own gain and there are always honourable men who hoard power to fight them."

When people rewatch this series they will get more out of it as one binge That being said I really like it being drip fed - I like being patient and having to think about what I just saw There is a voyeuristic element to the whole thing - almost like a vision - we don’t have the whole picture but we are hurtling towards a resolution Qimir’s dialogue and presence are spot on - he reminds us of how the dark side’s most enduring power is manipulation. Qimir’s faked vulnerability, his answers that deflected, and his gentle intimacy… chef’s kiss I like how Mae is going to be confronted by some harsh truths that will cause a lot of cognitive dissonance and confusion. Whereas Osha will set aside her angst and confusion for the allure of purpose and belonging Then we need to talk about Chekhov’s light whip… and Qimir’s scar… are they related or is it a red hearing. Also… who is this new Jedi with an English accent… in Star Wars the baddies usually have English accents… another red herring ? From the jump this series does not follow an American story structure - it’s Rashomon meets Brecht. There is a gestalt element to how it’s presented - in this case fragmenting the whole changes it If it’s not obvious - I am really enjoying this ride - it is meant to be unsettling, uncomfortable, and unnerving… just like the times we live in No wonder people are reacting to it

Yeah, the Jedi can absolutely love. But it's supposed to be a universal sort of love. It's not emotion the Jedi are supposed to eschew (it's "search your feelings," after all) but *attachment*. A Jedi isn't supposed to favor individuals - loving some more than others, choosing them over others, being willing to kill or die to preserve them even at the expense of others. Those are the paths to the Dark Side.

Regarding the "I don't buy it, it's only been a day" comment: I think we're severely underestimating the power of manipulation and trauma here. Yes, she saw him kill her friends. That's probably exactly the point. She's just been knocked out, is probably concussed and also traumatized. Then this extremely good looking dude comes around and gives her shelter, clothes, food and a false sense of security. Added to that, deep down she probably knows that she wouldn't be able to leave this place alive anyways. She can't kill him and she can't flee, so she just rolls with it. And also, Qimir is acting like a completely different person, he feels almost likeable and relatable here. It's not unthinkable that in her traumatized mind she thinks of Qimir and The Stranger as two different people. Plus he also addresses her fears and insecurities and sympathizes with her. I think all in all, her reaction isn't too far fetched.

We saw in episode 3 that little Osha wanted to use her power but in her own way. She went with the Jedi because she didn't want to be trapped with the witches. But she couldn't become a successful Jedi because she had to suppress her feelings, emotions and freedom. And it seems like she have some attachment issues too. But here Qimir gives her everything, what she wanted. "FREEDOM". That's what Qimir wants too. He is the "Master of subtle manipulation" 😂 Even Master Sol got caught in his mind games too. So yes, Qimir's manipulations works on Osha. I don't know why people complaining about that. It's not rocket science right???

"I'm just not a thousand percent sure what we're building to here." This kind of tells me you just want to know exactly how the story is going to go. Isn't that pretty damn lame? Personally I don't want to be spoonfed a narrative like a child. Like, I get having that feeling when the season ends and they didn't actually tie in and explain the various plot threads they are weaving. But I think a lot of viewers, and especially reactors these days, seem to forget they are watching episodic television. If it leaves you on a note where you want to know more before the thing is over...is that not the goddamn point?
@jackstutz28604 ай бұрын
I think it's less about knowing the end and more feeling like there's less and less way it all can tie together in any kind of coherent structure. The audience isn't stupid so when it becomes clear that either the writers are gonna pull a rabbit out their ass and say its from a hat or everything just falls apart, we start to get suspicious. As an avid TV watcher I can tell you that I don't like trying to or being able to predict the endings of shows. That's boring. But this show definitely has too much going on without any explanations for what time it has left for its central mystery (a mystery that isn't very interesting to begin with) to effectively make sense of it by the finale. Again, the audience isn't stupid and most ppl don't like it when writers just decide to force things at the very end to make it make sense which kinds feels like what this show is gonna do. I'll happily admit I'm wrong if it turns out I'm wrong, but I don't think I am at the moment
@yetibeardson11684 ай бұрын
@@jackstutz2860 If you don't like the story that's one thing. But there is absolutely a central point to this show. It's about Osha and Mae's life and journey after whatever happened to their people on Brendok and the role the four Jedi Mae was hunting played in that. That's like the main character driven thing. Then you have Qimir and the emergence of a possible Sith and how to Jedi either fail to see that or bury the truth. That's all been pretty obvious to. Again if you don't like that story path, then fine. But to suggest there's "too much going on" is wild to me. Game of Thrones and currently House of the Dragon have far more plot points and pieces moving around the board than ANY Star Wars show has even had. People just watch those shows with actively trying to fill out a laundry list of things to gripe about.

They tease this "What did those Jedi do?" mystery, keep hinting that they're going to start giving us answers... only to leave us hanging over and over and over. I'm past teased... I'm annoyed. If Manny Jacinto and Lee Jung-jae weren't KILLING IT with their performances, I'd probably be gone.

Does anyone else feel that they missed an opportunity by not naming Manny Jacinto's character Duu'Val ?

They could be going for a double turn, to use wrestling parlance. To bring balance to the Force, the good sister falls to the Dark Side, and the bad comes back to the Light.

The Force is NOT in your blood... if that's a Midiclhorian reference. That's not how Midichlorians work (or were even described as working.)

I love Star Wars, this show... does not make me excited each week. It has some cool things, but I grow weary of the sheer ton of strange and illogical lines and plot that doesnt add up. This show is confusing, and feels rushed. I see a lot of reactors refusing to say anything negative, and its dissappointing. I want the show to be amazing, but as a fan i'm simply not invested in this show and I can't recommend it. Thank you for being honest and not making some of your audience feel bad for feeling lost.
@coreyschleder84184 ай бұрын
I think most reactors I follow consider it kind of mid. Which at the end of the day it kind of is. Trimming some of the fluff and compacting to 4 episodes might have moved it up a bit. Possibly anyway.

I think the only problem I have with the series is that they keep pointing out that they need to tell each other what they remember from that night then they get interrupted. Just tell the story, and then when they want to finally tell us, just tell us. They wouldn't have to do the interruptions if they just let the story play out.

Wait, this looks like a young guy, yet he said it was a LONG time ago that he was a jedi... Darth Plagueis maybe? And this is just the current body he inhabits?

Theory hates this show but watch him bring out some theorysaber whips = shamless
@charlesallen23064 ай бұрын
Theory of where this is going. The story is essentially the fall of Osha. I think Sol will end up killing Mae, Osha will learn the truth about what happened on their home planet. I think those 2 things will force Osha to the dark side. As far as writing, this feels like a YA story, so character actions and motivations don't always make sense. Think CW DCverse.

There’s something awkward about knowing what Qimir is, but then seeing him just be a fuckboy kid like everything is normal. It doesn’t feel right to not have his mask stay on the entire time.

Oh you guys, chill out. You're a bit too tense. Relax. :)
To be honest, my biggest complaints about this series is show length (either 45 minutes minimum or air three episodes at a time), and having that cringey chant in English. Everything sounds better in an alien language. 🖖😎👍

I think this show would benefit being only 6 episodes Episode 5 was great but 4 and 6 were terrible fillers and would rather have it all just merged together Still looking forward to see what happened in the past hopefully next week

First off...your faces with the light whip were freaking awesome! 😂 I actually rewinded to watch that part again. Second..Im of the same mindset to give the show a chance til we see it all...and.. yeah I agree the story isnt flowing well enough to pull you in. But we got 2 episodes left. Lets see. One thing I def do like is the Sith guy and his character. That actor is really good.

It feels like a 90 minute story padded out to four hours and roughly hacked into 8 parts, without consideration of how the end of each episode messed with the narrative flow. I am enjoying it enough to keep watching but I care so little about Osha and Mei, that if they simply didn’t appear again I am not sure I’d notice.
@Tussin594 ай бұрын
Overall I'm enjoying it as we have to take it as a whole and the picture isn't complete , as a mystery should. What happened on brendock 15 years ago is the main plot point we've only seen one side Osha side . There is two sides of every story seeing maes side may show us the actual truth also I like the manipulation tactic that Qimir is using. Being more of a mentor learning from his mistakes with Mae .
