My 6 year old daughter has a daily count down to when COCO is coming out on dvd/ digital. She's learning Spanish more or less purely because of her passion about this movie. It's cute and wonderful but I'm also glad for another reason. My 87 year old grandfather is one of her favorite people and that movie gives a very real starting point for the eventuality when he is no longer with us. Dark I know, but I hope I can make his memory as joyful as the memory of Coco.

As a boy who read Captain Underpants in his younger years, I was surprised to see a movie was being made about him. It gave me more than I expected, and overall enjoyed it. My only complaints about it were George and Harold sounding WAY too much like adults and some of the potty humor didn’t appeal to me. Otherwise, I enjoyed it, and if I was babysitting and the kids wanted to watch it, I’d watch with them.

(Coco spoilers) - - - - Something I really appreciate about Coco (Aside from literally everything about it) is the fact that this twist villain is probably the best Disney/Pixar have pulled off since Turbo. Ernesto being revealed as the villain was clearly planned and loosely foreshadowed from the beginning, and it doesn't contradict any previous information or his previous behavior. I didn't like Hans because there were little bits like him smiling at Ana very genuinely earlier on in the movie while no one was looking, and nothing pointed towards him being the villain, which doesn't look like a clever twist, it just looks like lazy writing. I didn't really like Bellwether either because her behavior before didn't even hint at her being the villain (though it was clearly misleading intentionally, it just doesn't feel natural). Ernesto clearly wanted to boost his likability and fame, the motivation was clear, and nothing contradicts that. Someone falls into a pool? He dives in to save him because doing that in front of a crowd makes him look good. He brags about his great great grandson? Everyone loves kids!
@goodial6 жыл бұрын
I found it to be quite predictable. I soon realised that the other one was his father, so Ernesto being the villain was just logical ... Also, Disney movies really like their twists. The fact that there is one almost becomes kind of predictable by itself (see also: Big Hero 6, Wreck-It-Ralph (This one was the most surprising to me) ...

It would be interesting to see a movie based on Mexican or another Hispanic culture that doesn't fall into family, being a musician, and the Day of the Dead holiday. Believe me, I DESPERATELY want to see it, however my family is having many financial problems at the moment, so I can’t do much unless my parents decide it’s worth it. And it just so happens, my mom doesn’t seem interested in it at all, because it has skeletons. Now, this isn’t anything new, it came up when my brother and I had our Undertale phase, and some other times too, but as soon as it comes to DVD, you know darn well we’re gonna be bugging my parents to rent it! So until it comes out in however many months, we’re just going to have to suffer being “filistines” for the time being. At least I have plenty on anime I need to binge watch until then to hopefully get my mind off of it...

I'm sure when she say “filistines” she mean people who don't want to see it because it is"too much like Book of Life", not people who want to see it but can't because lack of money or time.

Coco and In This Corner of the World are my 2 favourite animated films I saw this year. The latter had me crying 5 minutes after it ended. They're both gorgeous to look at. And films I will definitely watch again, even if the latter is pretty hard to watch. *Reuploading this comment just cause I forgot to mention, your singing voice is amazing.*

I only checked out captain underpants because of her review. I never even gave the film a chance (didn't even see a trailer), didn't think it was going to be any good but I was wrong. I did the same thing to Wreck-it Ralph and I really wish I saw it in theatres, I love that movie.

13:56 “I’m glad to be looking forward” Wreck it Ralph 2: Mhm, yes.. If we’re all being honest, Wreck it Ralph 2 doesn’t base anything off of the 1st movie, made the main characters more selfish, and apparently forgot the glitch girl was now a princess that had others respect her since the kids still hate her now?

12:29 You know, I really don't understand why so many people are bothered by the villain's motivations in Zootopia. I thought it all made perfect sense in relation to the story being told. In a lot of ways, the villain is actually the perfect foil for our main protagonist, Judy Hopps, believing that the citizens of Zootopia could only truly get along if they realized they shared a common struggle, not unlike what brought Judy and Nick together in the first place. The villain, like Judy, understood that everyone can be subjected to prejudice in some way or another, and that it was the main thing dividing the city. What really made the contrast between them work is how they go about trying to solve that problem. While the one chooses forgiveness over contempt, the other becomes more embittered and resorts to perpetuating that prejudice.

The Captain Underpants movie was pretty good. The voice actors, comedy, and animation were awesome. (This is probably bias because I read the books as a kid and loved them)
@anirex39195 жыл бұрын
As someone who has read the Captain Underpants books, it is pretty satisfying, except for the ending, which just drags on with how much fanservice they were trying to shove in, and the love interest wasn't in the original books AT ALL, which makes the final resolution pretty unsatisfying. It's still a fun time, tho.

My favorite one that you didn't have on this list was The Breadwinner. It definitely wasn't the happiest of films, but it was, in my opinion, one of the best. It's animated so beautifully and the protagonist is characterized so well that it feels like you know her. You can understand her motives so well because the movie lays out all of her struggles and all of her desires, as well as highlights motives for other characters. All the characters are well set up, and it manages to feel so childlike, even when they are struggling to survive. On top of all that, it's got great representation, with a strong Afghani girl as the lead. The only thing I would have liked is a happier ending, since I sympathized so much with the protagonist, but since it's based in a real-world setting it's difficult to pull an "everything turns out okay" and, honestly, the ending was very realistic considering the circumstances. I'm so glad it's nominated for an Oscar because I think it needs more recognition. It's on Netflix now if you want to watch it, I highly recommend
