I love this guide and as a caster dps main it’s really making me want to roll bokmkin for tbc. My only question is the stat weights for each stat. For example, how much spell power is equal to a point of haste. I know this is often a complicated answer that requires simulations, but that’s the only piece missing from this guide. Still great guide going over the basics and I’d share with all my boomkin friends.

Steven Klaassen useful, must admit outside my rogue and feral, I’ve never used haste pots. As a boomy and priest raiding it’s all mana pots so thank you for the clarification! Can always rely on the comments 😁😞

I currently have a Shadow Priest (main) and a Feral Druid (alt). In TBC my SP will remain my main but not sure what to do with the Druid yet. I might make him Balance and PvE with him, or go Resto and make him my PvP character, try some arena. Third option is I replace him with a Shammy (I'm allience).

Depends if it’s gonna be a farming char as in have herb and mining or will it have PvP professions? Only reason I ask is because I would have every Druid alt farmer as feral for no downtime when you have to actually kill a few mobs etc for mines or herbs

ur guide is good but the one thing u mention is the haste potion. I think u don't play a lot tbc that potion just works on mele DPS or hunter. for spell classes this type in tbc like spell haste rating or spell crit rating spell hit rating when some of this removes the spell from it that shows the buff not working for spell classes.

Currently levelling as balance deep resto for healing touch spam in dungeons as needed and decent enough DPS in open world and dungeons to keep up. It has improved fairy fire and 3 points in thorns for the tank. Pretty fun and quickens dungeons when your healer is putting out consistent DPS with dots, and switching between DPS and healer on the fly without a 50g charge is so satisfying.

Hi. I followed your channel recently because i am planning on raiding in TBC as a moonkin. I am currently mythic raiding in retail. I dont quite understand some stuff. You tend to say "when you get a trinket proc, just dont bother refreshing dots, go for starfires". It seems that it's only the case with Haste Procs, the only one not affecting Dots. You even want to refresh dots on the last seconds of a Spell power proc, as they will keep retaining the spell power you had when casted. So, except if i am a total piece of shiet, refreshing a moonfire / IS before a trinket ends, always results in a DPS gain?

Tbh it’s going to depend on fight length quite a lot. The gain from casting a starfire on the last second of a trinket proc is more valuable and reliable. There will be loads of fights where your mana simply won’t be able to sustain keeping both dots up 100% of the time (without downranking SF) the damage dots do is reasonable but starfire is your bread and butter and for my personal gearing on the boomy, the results of focussing star fire during ALL trinket price, not just quags eye always yields more damage.

@@Scottejaye I get it, especially the mana issue, but, and we will need to see datamined "classic" values, IS is 792 + 75% Spell Power and MF is 339(+15%) and 600(+52.5%). SF is 120% (with Cenarion talent). We can then safely assume that at some spell power breakpoint, you will be right. Under that SP point, refreshing is better. If those spell coefficient remain the same, It's at - At 1760 Spell Power, Starfire becomes better than Insect Swarm - At 1756 Spell Power, Starfire becomes better than Moonfire. The only thing i lack is Do you reach such spell power, and if so, when? I am really looking forward to push Moonkin to the extreme, therefore i do love those maths lol

Question about faerie fire: i noticed that for multi targets you don't mention faerie fire. I'm guessing you would still keep up faerie fire on 2, 3, 4 targets. Is that right? What are some cases when you wouldn't use faerie fire?

@@Fokkingdrasl the answer i have since found is, keep up faerie fire on targets that are being focused down. If the target is just being hit by a tank, it's not worth it to faerie fire. AOE is a bit more complicated. Of course don't try to faerie fire the aoe packs before moroes in kara when you could just hurricane. The murlocs in ssc though before and during tidewalker will live much longer than your hurricane. In this case I think whether faerie fire spamming is worth it comes down to your raid comp. If most of your aoe dmg is warlocks and mages like most comps, i would guess you shouldn't bother with faerie fire on such large groups.

i found these numbers awhile back: the armor debuff alone adds about 5% dmg to physical dps. if i faerie fire 5 targets when i normally would have done say, 1k dps over 5 gcds (7.5s), we're losing 7500 damage in applying faerie fire. if we have 4 hunters doing 1500 dps each and every target takes 15 seconds to kill, adding 5% to their dmg gives 4500 dmg per 15 seconds. so if every target has faerie fire kept up that's an increase of 22,500 dmg for those 4 hunters.

Their Vampiric Touch DOT restores 5% of damage dealt as mana. Also, Google is your friend.

I just occasionally play boomkin when our raid has none, but based on the addon Dr. damage, insect swarm has the best dmg per mama ratio, therefore I try to keep it up as first priority if I run low on mana. Also the increased miss helps a lot during progression, potentially serving as a life saver. Isn't boomkins main job to shine in the corner with the utility of improved hit, miss on boss and aura - and thereafter care about dmg? I mean my gear is shit as it is my off-off-off-spec (free respecc alliance side xD), but am I getting something wrong? Also very interesting that you don't faerie fire when having multitargets. I mean sure they die fast, but raid wise, the increased hit potentially increases the overall raid dmg more then your own ability, right (assuming the first mob lives for at least 20ish seconds)? As I said, I don't play boomkin usually, so I am happy to hear your expertise on that!

The lack of use on FF is because adds are and don’t quote me on this for every single fight in the game....not boss mobs so the extra hit is wasted or they just die so fast that it’s not worth it. Think about the trash on the stairs on the way to moroes for example, I believe without checking they are level 72 max? So everyone should have enough hit for those.

Everything is good except one thing, using dots after u get more than 1k spd is rly nonsense, u loosing to much gcd for doing that, even if monfire crits its not worth to loose gcd in which u can simply spaw starfire which crits for 7-8k with 1.7 spd, and gives u 2k dps... Everything rest was good

Good guide. Really hope they nerf drums though. If everyone goes LW It would take a ton of fun out of the game. I personally wont be going LW'ing for my second prof. Likely JC for the custom gems. Once gear upgrades compete with the tailoring set, Ill transition into JC / Ench for minmax potential & Optimal PVP for arenas. Just my 2 cents though.
