Ya I was so excited when I saw that half dollar! It was the ideal first silver coin. The stars sort of aligned perfectly for this video but hey I'll take it lol. It was only like 3 inches too. Even in MO where the coins were much deeper I noticed that the halves were still shallow like 3-4 inches almost all the time. Even the seated half I found was only like 5-6" deep. GL and HH!

You turd! Haha. Huge congrats on the half! That signal sounded sweet! I used to do the scouting method more. But since the obvious good, local sites have slowed down since I moved here, I spend more time on the permissions (especially the decent ones) looking for gold and relics after the better signals slow down, as I view permissions as a commodity now. Got 2 gold rings so far this year and even a palladium ring (surface mid tone) I mostly just do the scouting method anymore when I'm further away from home and don't want to mess around. And sometimes knocking a ton of doors and driving all over can get old. lol. We gotta get out again when the temps come down. This video was perfect for your silver series and a fun challenge. :) I still don't knock til about 10:30 unless I see people around. I hate waking people up, normally they don't take too kindly to the detecting question if you drag them out of bed. LOL!
@cutaplug8 жыл бұрын
Thanks JD! If you want to find more gold and relics the scouting method isn't key for that for sure but I think it rocks for finding lots of silver. Have your silver counts went down after you started looking for more gold and relic stuff? Only after I've systematically hunted every house in my area personally would I slow down and start pounding places out more if my goal was the most silver. I usually sleep a lot later in the day but was up super early today and fortunately didn't tick anyone off lol. I get the urge sometimes to go really slow and look for gold and relics too sometimes but it's usually on a beautiful cool day in the fall. In the summer I just don't have patience for that in the hot sun =) Grats on that silver dollar man it's such an awesome find!

P.S. Can you go count all our silver live digs and see who has more? I'm really curious but don't have it in me =) LOL
@JDsVarietyChannel8 жыл бұрын
Yeah. If silver is the goal your method is the right one hands down. I used to hunt quantity a lot more. And those 40's and 50's houses we hunt are usually easy to cherry pick silver at because there's less iron in the ground. The 1800's homes are a lot more challenging, and the ones that are worth digging the junk tones at. But usually the 40's and up houses don't have amazing relics, so I don't mind leaving the junk tones behind unless the yard was amazing with silver and wheats. Then that's a sign many of the lower signals will be good. My silver count is down this year because I went haywire last year and detected waaaay too much (ended at 265) and hit many amazing sites. I'm in the low 70's so far this year. But what you said is true. I got tired of rosies and have been trying to find older stuff. So that's part of why my count is down. This year I have almost 30 civil war bullets and lots of nice relics. My morgan site was littered with clad, trash and iron and I had to peel the layers off the site like an onion before the old stuff started hitting. lol. I knew it hadn't been detected well and that the stuff had to be down there.
@JDsVarietyChannel8 жыл бұрын
LOL. No way I could count them. You know I have over 600 videos up right? Haha. The guys I know that do a lot of live digs are Dave from RelicHuntingScotland (he does so many he has even live dug 2 gold coins) and DirtFishing. He focuses on the machines and tones and I used to watch him a lot when I first started detecting. Those are th e2 people that come to mind when you say live digs. I probably do only one or 2 per video unless I'm at a good site.
@cutaplug8 жыл бұрын
When I say live silver dig I mean showing the tone on the screen and digging it live. I think you and I have more than anyone else online when it comes to silver. Are you talking about Bill_S? He made the park pattern a lot of people use. We've hunted together when I used to live in Missouri =)

Great job bro on the silver! Next challenge... Find gold in a day. For me, the challenge is find anything good in a day... But that is life in the desert, which I love! I just started my own KZbin Channel and worry a bit about not having near the success in finds that you guys back east do... For us relic and desert hunters it's as much about the history of location and adventure as it is the actual finds. I hope to see ya around bro!

Nice finds man! After too many "no" permissions, I just can't find myself enjoying door knocking! These people around here are tough-even on some horrible looking yards lol.
@cutaplug8 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I run into a dry spell like that but then I get like 5 yeses in a row to make up for it. It's all about statistics lol. I couldn't find anyone home at first, then scouted two unproductive yards before hitting this nice one. All 3 silvers and one wheat were out of the same yard. GL and HH!

Had to watch this congrats .. see that why I need to ask questions .. about certain signals on the CTX .. 01:46 i,m not sure I would of dug that .. but I can hear the high squeak , I understand the 11:41 12 : 41 s etc .. or I have dug wheats and stuff with the common number and I can tell its a coin .. its the other type of signal that throws me ,plus should I be paying attention to the circle that moves around on the screen ., I have Andys book ... and i ,m sure I need to read more .. like out in the field .. then read and keep doing that till i understand more .. Apologies for rambling on Jm B
@cutaplug7 жыл бұрын
I think 1:46 was just a false signal or a piece of iron and I lost the signal. If you want to know how to read signals my latest video is perfect for showing what the iffy and deep ones sound like. GL and HH =)

Great finds Rusty especially for only being out a couple hours. I door knock as well and your videos are really helpful. Also I was wondering how you mount your camera on the E-trac like that? Is it a go pro? Anyways GL and HH!

I have a cheap samsung HD camera that I bought on clearance at wal mart. One of these days I'll make a video of how I have it mounted. It's basically a bunch of different parts that I put together to create the system but it works amazingly well. One of my parts was malfunctioning today so I need to fix that lol.

Great fast finds on the silver SWEEEET...but I do have a question I detect with the fisher f 44 with the standard tear drop coil but I wanna get the detech 13in dd coil idk if if have any knowledge on the f44 but what input could you give me on the detech coil verses the standard 11 tear drop coil?
@cutaplug8 жыл бұрын
I haven't used an f44 but would guess the bigger coil would be good for low trash areas with deep coins. When I lived in MO almost all the coins were deep so I used a 12x13 NEL there. Now in TN the coins are so shallow it's like taking candy from a baby and I use the stock etrac coil.
@fredbug678 жыл бұрын
Great results! And very fast too. I think the biggest advantage you give yourself is the ability to knock on doors and get permission to virgin sites. Great advice and love the how to videos!

What kind of coil u use
@rustycraig17136 жыл бұрын
In MO when I had a lot of loose dark soil a 12x13" NEL was my main coil. Here in East TN there is a lot of minerals and red clay stuff so I use a stock coil. On this hunt I think I was using the stock coil.

Your a Freak.. damn Rusty, walker at one inch down? Like your new home area. I could spend the rest of my life living in the Smokie Mountains.
@cutaplug8 жыл бұрын
LOL it was probably 2 inches =) Actually almost all the half dollars I find are 2"-4" deep with the average around 3" I'd say. That goes for TN where the coins are shallow and also in MO where a lot of coins were 10"+. No matter where I've been seems like halves are always really shallow.

Man there are so many variables besides luck that I can't even list them all really. Once you have more experience I think you'll realize that =)
