Excellent use. Sorry, couldn't hear anything you were saying while using the hammer. Dang noisy things. 🤠 My wife has the same pickup truck as you. Now, she actually has a Ford F150, but she uses her Prius as a pickup, bringing home a bale of hay and bags of grain when she needs a small load. 🤙

Yup. With the newer higher wattage yet relatively small high frequency inverters, making portable solar generators is a fantastic option for mobile power solutions. Now if only the batteries could be a little lighter. Lol.

@@a64738 Obviously it’s a LOT lighter than FLA but still a bit for my tired old back to be lifting around. Definitely need some mechanical lifting device to assist. And Much better than pulling around a petrol generator for sure.
@a647382 жыл бұрын
Add some solar panels to the mix and you can make the battery last even forever if you have enough panels :) I have 1280w of panels on my camper van and 5kw/h of Life-Po4 and the panels help a lot even when it is raining to extend the battery capacity. (I get about 1500w total on a dark rainy day from the panels and normally about 3000w if it is normal rainy day that is not exceptionally dark).

Your HDR footage looks amazing, Ray. Makes a huge difference. And yes, having that inverter and battery like that certainly opens up options. Imagine going camping with that thing?
@RayBuildsCoolStuff2 жыл бұрын
Camping? Maybe take it up to your cabin for the weekend. Lol For car camping, the Prius can make all the power I need to grind coffee and charge batteries. That’s already way past what I consider camping. Maybe I need to work on my definition.😂😂

What? What? I can't hear you over the chipping hammer! :) I have obviously been watching your videos too much - my battery pack looks almost exactly like yours except I have mine in a steel box (a flimsy, but reinforced unit from big box stores) and set up as 4 banks of four cells (so I can move the packs easier). The detail is uncanny - standard bus bars cut in two for the + and - terminals, the screwed in BMS connections (I actually have two tapped holes on each bus bar - one for an active balancer option). Thanks Ray, you have been a great teacher for me.

I like the Bosch Professional Equipment. We used the 11kg version to tear off the walls of the gable roof walls of my brothers house in preparation for a new roof. We also tried a small Makita some days before on some concrete... Should have borrowed the Bosch for that work, could have saved many hours of demoralising work :). So if you have the possibility to rent a bigger Bosch hammer - go for it :). Got a 12V 4s system in my minicamper - and i like the possibilities it offers when you need electrical power in the field - even with low capacity of 120Ah it does it's job with a 1.5kw inverter.

I see this and wonder what the world looks like when we have batteries 10 times the capacity of this.

Hi ! Thank you for your instructive videos. Can you explain how do you charge it from the grid ?

I have power supplies that charge at that voltage. I made a video that shows the testers and power supplies that I use.

More strain on the grid but should be charged at night and maybe solar charged during the day.
@allan80supra2 жыл бұрын
@@RayBuildsCoolStuff sure in the short term there will be infrastructure push back due to the incumbents not wanting to lose control of their money printer, but long term "the grid" is going to be more of a marketplace than a utility. With batteries at substations, neighbourhoods and homes balancing demand will be much easier, I think we will also see a lot more people "off grid" this has been accelerated due to beer flu but was already happening to an extent. exciting times!

I think it would be easier to just use an inverter powered from the 12v secondary battery of the Prius!
@RayBuildsCoolStuff2 жыл бұрын
I use the Prius for backup power but not at that amperage. 800 watts is more than I would take from the Prius. It simply isn’t designed to provide 75 amps.
@richardking60662 жыл бұрын
@@RayBuildsCoolStuff I understood that the dc to dc converter was capable of 100 amps....

Don't you wish you could just tap into the battery already in the Prius? Let the engine start/stop as needed to keep that battery charged.
@RayBuildsCoolStuff2 жыл бұрын
I can and in an emergency, I have. It is one of my layers of redundancy. I use a 1,000 watt inverter off the 12v battery. I limit it to 75amps. I consider a car to be a very expensive generator so it is only used in a pinch like when we had our icepocalypse and lost power for five days. The Prius kept my exterior tankless water heater from freezing and maintained communication and security.
