It's easy to criticise the work these guys do, but they're doing the best they can with the tools they have and the skills that were handed down to them or that they self learned they've never been to a trade school and had their techniques tested to pass a minimum grade. In our throwaway western world that axle housing would have been junked and replaced but they can't afford to do that they have to fix things the best they can. And half the people criticising them in the comment's have never done anything like this level of repair work and are just parroting other people's comments.

true. and throwing it away and grind it down as scrap would actually be the right and rational way to handle it. as you say, they don't have the option, so they work with what they have, but it's neither safe in the road, nor safe to do nor economically defensible in any society that values life and actual pay for work. it's more a desperation thing.

As a boiler maker welder Someone who spent 4 years learning this trade This is rough and will fail If you think this is a great job. U clearly have no idea This is what we call bush mechanics. Gets u out of trouble in the short term Stick welding isn’t particularly strong and the fail will occur straight through the middle of the weld And the weld is wider than the thickness of the axle. Instant weakness and fail once stressed Guaranteed But hey. Wtf do I know eh

They always seem to use the very cheap PK Bridge 6013 type welding rods and usually run on an old AC power source. Also they never ever grind the metal back to clean out the dirt and slag residues and, as others have commented, there is lots of porosity / slag inclusions in the weld.

A big A for ingenuity but Z for repair. Had to do similar on front cast diff on a Nissan Patrol on an outback trip, only got 100ks before it collapsed again. 🇦🇺

sin duda son maestros metalúrgicos. pero me llama la atención que operen en esa actividad con los pies desprotegidos.. esos fierros los pueden dejar incapacitados laboralmente si le aplastan o queman un pies.

I bet it wears tires out a lot quicker, but maybe for their roads it will work ,here in USA on highways running 50 mph it may vibrate a lot , the use of some levels would have greatly increased the quality but that’s another world and they are 50 years behind us
