Terence McKenna on the necessary steps for humanity to survive.
Art by Jim Figora / jimmy.figs
Talk from an ethnobotanical conference in Palenque, Mexico.
"There's no going back, we've burnt this place to the ground."
"If we believe in the dynamics of nature, if we believe in the rightness of being then there should be no anxiety, there should be no alarm. This is what psychotherapy and shamanism and all these things exist for, is to spread the truth about the situation so that we don't clutch, and we don't hold on and spread panic and hysteria... and that's what I have learned from psychedelics."

It’s fucking endless dude! I mean maybe after two years of listening to one hour lecture… One hour a different lecture every night for two years will you begin to discover and appreciate this gentleman‘s true depth of knowledge and cross referencing store house. It’s a rare commodity to find in the human experience. I have quite literally thousands and thousands of hours of his lectures… No exaggeration whatsoever and you’ll never hear the same thing twice. Also, read his books. Incredibly well written and oh the journeys he will go on. He was so far ahead of his time.

Every time I listen to him I am so absolutely in awe of his incredible mind, his beautiful words, and I am so grateful to be able to witness that even if just on here. What a tremendous gift he was to us. It makes me wonder why no one else is having these sort of conversations, why we don’t wonder more, explore more intellectually, ask who are we and what’s brought us here... and it baffles me that psychedelics are still illegal when there is no solid ground for any claims that they are harmful to people. They’re only harmful to the establishment, I guess this is the reason for their prohibition.

I remember on my first trip.. around 1991, walking into a newly built housing estate at around midnight.. with it's yellow street lamps and perfect little gardens.. and right then.. I just knew we didn't fit the landscape.. humanity was a blasphemy of nature.. When ever I took LSD again it was always in the woods.. with the trees at night, away from any manmade structure as much as possible. Wish I knew Terrence was a thing back then .. only found him the last couple of years.

nature is a blasphemy to itself look deeper, humanity as flawed as it is, is an ameliorative process to the chaos that is nature itself, hinting that humanity is a divine intervention..... perhaps your revelation was more akin to that of projection of your own fallen nature and man's fallen nature and how we need a redeemer?

@@patswayze7359 For the sake of precision I wouldn't say he is wrong-wrong. However, as a public speaker, he has at least one point which is clearly public driven, that is he's stance on freedom. I am absolutely sure terence was aware of that because even if we don't go into paradigmatic problems (e.g. the unknown source of imagination; the I ching determinism, etc ...) we can find how reluctantly he advocates freedom in some contexts where this type of problem becomes apparent as he speaks. Existence & Consciousness "In the beginning, all things in existence existed as one thing. The Source of all things is information. Underlying and permeating our entire physical material existence is a field/plane of Quantum Information. Even when 'nothing' existed, something still did- the 'information of nothingness'. Through itself, the field created itself, from nothing. The field itself is nothing, which is still something. Through this field is generated all other things, including our universe. All particles, all states, all molecules, all atoms, etc. all existed as One. This One manifested through itself the individualiztion of all other particles, planes, dimensions, and universes. Time itself exsist within the One. All laws and rules exist within the One. The One is the Law itself. Eventually via the Great Cycle, all individualized particles will contract back into One, each cycle bringing a higher advancement in consciousness than the previous cycle. Each individualized unit of creation, also being an individualized unit of consciousness, brings back to the Source its own information." -The Source.

"Human beings are obsessively addicted to all kinds, not only of substances, but of situations...of each other, of localities, of ideologies. You can hardly name a category of experience that we do not form obsessive & addictive relationships to. I mean, a guy steps to his front door in the morning, and opens the door...if the daily newspaper isn't lying rolled up at his feet, he slams the door and walks back into his house, now a menace to wife and child. Quite simply because an addictive behavior has been interrupted by the unexpected withdrawal of the object of the addiction."

People may think his ideas absurd, please keep in mind that most every innovation seems absurd at a glance. For example, pretty much all people used to be completely positive the earth was flat. That's just what it seems at a glance. Likewise in our day people think it absurd to imagine a spiritual dimension to reality. To imagine that there is not (especially given the datum offered to us by psychedelics) is actually the absurdity.
