Reliving The War takes a look at the "Monday Night War" era of pro wrestling from late 1995 to 2001. Every episode of WWF Raw is War and WCW Monday Nitro gets compared head-to-head with every match and promo covered on a weekly basis.
The WWF are on the road to No Way Out where Shawn Michaels, Triple H and The New Age Outlaws take on Cactus Jack, Chainsaw Charlie, Owen Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Stone Cold decides to steal HBK's WWF Championship belt this week, and all Shawn has to do to get it back is face Steve in the ring. We also see clips from the WrestleMania XIV press conference featuring HBK, Austin and Mike Tyson.
On WCW Nitro problems within the nWo continue as Hollywood Hogan tries to keep Macho Man Randy Savage in check. Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero team up to face Dean Malenko and Chavo Guerrero, and The Outsiders put the tag titles on the line in the Nitro main event.

And that was the best Goldberg match for a long time. Regal was a miniboss in the Goldberg career mode on his way to Hogan.

The Regal vs Goldberg match is really incredible to watch, the way Regal so effortlessly counters moves on the fly while in reality he's pulling these things off at the very last second sine Goldberg isn't communicating. Really shows off just how phenomenal Regal was in the ring, for the longest time he definitely got the best match out of Goldberg in WCW.

All of this too while going cold turkey off of drugs. Regal was always extremely talented and it's sad he got fired for doing his job, but thankfully we get to see him very soon down the line on the series :)

@@brettrossi034 it's insane that he did this while cold turkey off of drugs. I've been in full opioid withdrawal a few times because of not having medicine I have to take for an illness i have, and during that withdrawal I can barely move, every muscle and bone feels like it's on fire, and I feel on the edge of a mental breakdown. Yet Regal was going through that and more, WHILE putting on an athletic match and moving around a 250+ pound man???? Some people in this world are just built different and regal is one of them for sure
@muscledoggs566

DDP definitely had the best Goldberg match later in 1998, and then forever after that, in my opinion. The problem with Regal is that he wasn't a "take you under my wing" kind of guy like DDP was, at least back then. I have to take Goldberg's side here as I truly feel Regal took advantage of how green Goldberg was back then.
@WaterInmyHands
@WaterInmyHands Жыл бұрын
@@muscledoggs566 the issue is, Goldberg is just going though the motions, he'll back regal into the corner and just do things spontaneously with no communication. If you swing someone into the ropes you need to tell them what the next spot will be otherwise it's just going to end in a mess, it's hat happened with Breat heart as his only real cue was "Watch the kick" and that was after Goldberg had more training. DDP was a good choice since he plans the whole match out in advance meaning he can work really direct Golderg on what he should be doing beforehand.
@Goomyx1492
@Goomyx1492 Жыл бұрын
@@WaterInmyHands unfortunately it seems like that's all the direction Goldberg was ever given though. Like if the management is saying "this is how all your matches are going to go" and then it doesn't happen that way, what can the guy do? It never seemed like WCW ever cared about actually teaching him how to wrestle. Tbh it just seemed like WCW dropped the ball here and it's not necessarily either of the guys in the ring's fault.

It's wild seeing Quebecer Pierre during this period now, since he's still going strong to this day as PCO, and is even in the middle of a really enjoyable slow face turn in Impact as part of Honor No More, which he'll obviously be kicked out of soon enough. Meanwhile, Steven Regal truly got done dirty by WCW after this match with Goldberg. We all know he's deserving of better, because... he a Real Man's Man.

Sure, it doesn't have the same level of polish it used to from a presentation perspective, but the matches are good to excellent (Josh Alexander winning the title from Moose is legit a Match of the Year contender, IMO), the storylines have been solid, & the roster is outstanding.

I absolutely love the way you inserted the Pantera audio!! RIP Abbott brothers. Hope you approve of the upcoming Pantera tour with Wylde and Benante in your place, even if Pantera played in Cedar Rapids, IA, years ago, I don't expect their tour to come back to CR - or eastern Iowa - so I have zero chance of getting to see it... EDIT: since I wrote this post, I have decided to go see Metallica in Saint Louis in November and the opening band on Friday is Pantera!!! I saw Anselmo opening for SLAYER in November 2019 so I know he is going to bring all of his passion to the gig!!

Im all for the idea of the songs coming back to life like this, and Zak Wylde is one of the only lads that can recreate Dime's delivery. I believe that it is a great tribute to the Abbott brothers to bring their music to their fans. He's never been my favorite, but since day 1 I've been waiting for Norman Smiley to pop up in the series. I'm happy now.

I was in this WCW Nitro crowd during my high school years. Being that El Paso is a border town, it was hilarious that Loki had another sign that read, "Show us your green card!" I could not help but laugh at it and it stuck with me all these years.
