We’ll all get a short break from Russo soon. In January of 2000 he walked out of WCW after being told he’d no longer be head writer and have to work with a booking committee. Kevin Sullivan took over shortly before that month’s Souled Out and remained head booker until Russo was brought back alongside Eric Bischoff in March.

Because a similar thing happens later also involving Hogan in 2000 which kinda overshadows this one. On top of both involving Russo which people can then just shift to it being "just Russo booking" as opposed to Hogan BS.

Rumor was that Hogan didn't want to work with Russo and decided to not even have a match instead as he would not be on tv again until late January after Russo went home. He stayed when Russo was brought back because Eric Bischoff came back with him, both he and Eric Bischoff were under the understanding that Bischoff was going to oversee Russo, but then Bash at the Beach 2000 happened.

I don't know, looks more to me like Russo's taken control of the ship from Eric Bischoff, and he's absent-mindedly set it on a course directly to it's destination, without having it travel to any other waypoints so the ship can manoeuvre around where any dangerous obstacles might be. My best friend Jeff and I used to save up all month so his Mom would order us PPVs. This was the last WCW PPV we watched. We were already watching WWF more at this point, but we were so disappointed with the Sting/Hogan match we moved to WWF exclusively. Excited to see what we missed; everything after this is new to me.

@@WaterInmyHands We were barely teenagers, so we didn’t have a lot of money to begin with (we asked family members for cans and mowed lawns/shoveled driveways in the summer/winter to pay for them), so it was especially aggravating, especially after we’d spent the week before this bitching about Nitro. We also hated Bill Goldberg, so getting not one but two Bill Goldberg matches was maybe the last straw. Ugh. It’s nice to have these videos to look back on good times but this one was triggering!

I understand the side of WCW fans like you guys now. My mom and I only watched Raw cuz I liked Stone Cold and she liked the Rock. My grandpa would watch Nitro cuz it had all the old wwf guys from the 80s. At a certain point he just quit watching wcw and we all would just talk about what happened on raw when we would get together for dinner.

I honestly think that Vince Russo was thinking he would have no problem using the same formula that made him successful in WWF and just use it in WCW without modifying anything. The problem was WCW while it was also a wrestling organization, it was a different company than WWF with a completely different style that still was under the influence of it’s southern wrestling roots. Not to mention a fan base that was not used to the WWF style. Perhaps he should of taken a lesson from Vince McMahon when he tried to take over Georgia championship wrestling in 1984. McMahon tried to present the WWF style of wrestling but the GCW fans were having none of it. I think if Russo would of slowly implemented changes to the presentation instead of changing it completely pretty much overnight, people might of not been as quick to reject it as they also did in 1984.

I bought this one when it happened. My dad and I would buy PPVs then if we liked it we'd snag the VHS months later. We loved Austin, Rock and Undertaker but his favorite were Sting and Hogan as he watched Jin Crockett Promotions and WWF during their heyday. Much like you Bios we liked Sid vs Goldberg but were left scratching our heads with Hogan laying down. I was 8 back then so was not on the dirt sheets so Hogan laying down and Sting's pin hurt my head with confusion, left us annoyed and we never bought another WCW PPV again. Considering the screwed up confusing finishes to Starrcade 1999 and Souled Out 2000, I'm glad we never did. Good job as always Bios.

I gotta say one thing, I always get excited when Berlyn shows up cause we get that sweet hype video. Truly one of my favourite parts that I keep rewinding over and over again. And no, I'm not kidding. Wish we could go back in time and have WCW play that everytime Berlyn gets in front of a camera. Maybe the war would've ended differently or it would still go on today with Berlyn beating Ric Flair's number of title reigns.

Back in 1999, little did I know that as of this PPV, I was on the Road to Ending my WCW Viewership for good. That date would occur the day after a WCW January PPV where news hit the internet like a storm before that edition of Nitro aired. I won't spoil future events of your show, but that was effectively the last straw for my friends and I with WCW. I absolutely detest this PPV. Goldberg and Sid being the ONLY good thing about it. I did get an inkling of a storyline developing with Bret Hart, but the execution and the manner in which he taps out here is just poor. I don't know what it is with WCW, Bret had great matches with Curt Hennig and Lex Luger in the WWF, but in Turner-Land the Magic is gone. I don't CARE about offending Vince Russo fans. His style of Booking and So-called Writing SUCKS Massive @$$.
