The date is 5.6.96 and it's time for another Monday Night TV ratings battle. WCW Nitro is live on TNT and WWF Raw is showing taped matches on the USA Network. Eric Bischoff and company are gearing towards Slamboree 96, a pay per view that will feature the Lethal Lottery / Lord of the Ring tournament while the WWF are getting prepared for In Your House: Beware of Dog. Which show will come out on top as we continue this series that aims to relive the entire Monday Night Wars?
This week, The Undertaker is in the main event as "The Phenom" faces Owen Hart. The WWF also progresses the British Bulldog vs Shawn Michaels storyline when an unknown lady reveals some information about the Heartbreak Kid. On Nitro, Lex Luger is scheduled to take on The Giant in a WCW World Championship match, and other guys in action include Jushin Liger, Dean Malenko, The British Bulldog, Fatu and the 1-2-3 Kid.

I always liked his ring work. The little touches he did with holds to work on a joint or a nerve; it gave his matches a nice authenticity. And his matches with Finlay were brutal and stiff.

I know what I'd say to people who write off Hacksaw...........I agree. lol. Hacksaw, when he was in the WWF and was at his peak in popularity, was alright for hyping the crowd up and stuff (and even past his prime, he can still do that because of his gimmick even if, it doesn't do anything for me as I'm not American) but, there's only so much of that sort of thing people can really get excited about. Eventually it gets old. Yeah, people still chant USA during his matches around this time but people chant that even when no one in the ring is from the US. Jim Duggan was good for a time but, that time passed by 96. Although, I guess if you still liked Duggan at this time then, alright. It's your opinion.

Erik Watts is arguably the single biggest beneficiary of nepotism in wrestling history. He’d only trained as a wrestler for a few months when WCW signed him in 1992 (when his father was running the promotion, natch), and he immediately got a huge push despite being lousy in the ring and having no personality. After Bill Watts got canned he got relegated to jobber status, then when Bill joined the WWF as a writer in 1995 Erik got signed over there and Tekno Team 2000 was formed. Allegedly they were slated to win the tag titles only a couple months after their debut, but instead they got pulled from TV after only a handful of matches and were sent to the USWA for seasoning. The match in this episode of Raw was their first appearance on WWF TV in almost a year (not counting when they were used as lumberjacks for Diesel vs Sycho Sid at In Your House 2) and both Erik and Chad “Travis” Fortune were released a few months later.

Loving these videos man!!!! When trying to recapture my youth, wrestling is the one thing that puts my mind back in that point in time. My brother and I watched every week from 95 to around 98-99. We watched many of these events on live TV. At some point, and I don't remember when exactly, I gave up on WCW and started watching WWF. And at some point shortly after that, I quit watching wrestling all together. Trying to figure out about when that shift happened. @17:08 .... Gee, I wonder who that was hahaha.
