Gorilla Monsoon is like the John Madden of wrestling. There's literally a spot backstage named after him lol. He's certainly left his mark on the business and he left it a whole lot better than he found it. He was a wrestler, a shareholder when the company was still privately owned, a booker, a legit tough guy, and of course an announcer who we all remember. I thought he and Heenan were the voices of my childhood. "THIS PLACE IS GOING BANANAS!" If there's a life after this, I hope we get to listen to those two call matches with all of the icons right there in person! You don't well, Monsoon! Rip.

Gorilla was a lot more than 6'2". He was at least 6'4"-6'5" during his commentary days (could have even been 6'6" in his younger days). He weighed 350 pounds during the 80's (post wrestling) and 300 pounds later in life, but was 400 during his wrestling career and has said that he once weighed as high as 450.
@TheMan-je5xq Жыл бұрын
Well he’s billed as 6’7 so yeah I’d say we could safely say 6’4
@gimmethepinkelephant3685 Жыл бұрын
I think he actually was 6'6 or 6'7... Because I saw him box Andre the Giant and when he was standing in the ring with him he certainly did not look like he was any less than maybe 4 or 5 inches shorter than the Andre. They were going toe to toe and it just looked like two massive guys going at it. He definitely wasn't 6'2 as stated in this video. That's for damn sure.... Maybe once he got old and nearer to the time he had passed away he may have lost some height the way most of these wrestlers do. But yeah, he was definitely up there around 6'6 or 6'7.
@Jay-dn9lp Жыл бұрын

I can well believe that people tuned in to listen to the Gorilla and Heenan banter. I did. You certainly did a great job with this video. It is a great biography of a great wrestler and man. You didn't mention the death of his son. I saw a bit of life leave him for a while there. He was so sad. Heenan did what he could to cheer Gorilla up, but I think he lost some of his love for the business at that time. My favorite quote from him as "He's (the wrestler that they were talking about) not paid by the hour". RIP I know that he is calling the matches in the sky and I can't wait to hear that commentary again- with Heenan, of course.
