Apologies for all the crashing and things that happened today - I've unfortunately got one of the rapidly failing intel 13th gen CPUs. I've been dealing with intel for it and just after the stream ended I got an email from Intel, they're sending me the replacement before I send the busted one, but it now means I've got to wait for that to get shipped... just before christmas, so I've gotta keep my fingers crossed it arrives soon :(

no worries bud, If it was me I would swap that thing out for an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D as soon as possible. At least if it's compatible with the rest of your hardware, I've heard it's the best you can get for gaming at the moment, doesn't have any of the Intel nonsense, and at least from what I've seen appears to live up to the hype. Wish you luck in sorting it out regardless my friend hope you have a wonderful day. ps. I cannot bloody wait for more assertive acquisitions XD

Been having exactly the same issue with my intel processor. I did find that using their Extreme Tuning Utility software and lowering the Performance Core Ratio from x57 to x54 fixes the issues. But it is really just a bandaid and I should really contact someone about getting it replaced with one that actually works as intended

Splitsie, one thing I learned from playing with the water mod and collectors: put the collector on "don't use conveyors" so it's never going to push ice into your cargo containers, but the O2 generators can still pull from it without problems. This prevents your cargo to fill up with ice like crazy.

Very enjoyable to watch. That hinge-hinge-hinge-rotor-corner-hinge - contraption was something to witness. Wouldn't have thought that after countless vehicles with trailers you'd ever build anything more complex than hinge-rotor-hinge again 🤣. You might have given the "hollow rooms" - approach to buoyancy a chance. I mean, the banana was a free hint there. Just some 5x6x3 airtight segments with conveyors along one side and a vent into the hollow. Should be much cheaper than tanks (the cost of large pipes alone...). All the best to your CPU...

A style of drill rig I really like would make it super easy to drill boulders like that, and is a good use of a turret controller. The key is to use a rotor for side to side control, then a hinge NOT controlled by the turret controller just deployed to a 45 degree angle(can also use this to stow it) then a piston or two followed by a hinge that the controller does operate up and down, then pistons and drill(s). Slap a camera looking down the last line of pistons, point it to the boulder using the turret controller, and extend those drill pistons into it.

For the foldy ramp: instead of deploying the ramp under power, why not set it to always be trying to fold, then deploy it by turning the hinges off? Give them a small amount of braking torque, to cushion the fall as they deploy, but otherwise let it flop? that way you can let it go to the ground AND it won't break itself if you forget it
@Splitsie
@Splitsie Ай бұрын
The ramp can't fall into the position it needs to be in, since it's double bent in the middle that part will flop down vertical and not be particularly helpful :(

A long term ladder fix. The rearmost ladder should be attached to a piston, attached to three sensors. The piston comes with a long ladder up one side, and sensors at rhe base. Two sensors react to nearby voxels, one to Rover movement. If the rover is almost stationary, sensor 1 allows Sensor two to lower the piston and attached ladder to 2 meters the nearest voxel, preferably slowly. Third sensor detects if a voxel comes within 1.5 metres snd retracts the piston at maximum speed till the voxel is at a minimum safe distance. So long as you don't lose power the ladder will always take you up. For added bonus points, you need a rotor to keep the piston upright even when climbing crazy hills to make dismounting ladders easier, without permitting clang. I might suggest a low breaking force to keep it from bouncing too much.
@Splitsie
@Splitsie 25 күн бұрын
Sadly a piston ladder won't work properly here (which is quite frustrating). Because of the number of subgrids around as well as server based challenges, the subgrids on the rover always shake a bit, this means that you'll often be thrown off a ladder before it can reach its destination. That was a part of the drive to making the ramp with the ladder on the roof, even if you get thrown off, you still end up with your character on the ramp. On the other hand, now that I say all that, having a piston lift where you get on it by grabbing a ladder on the roof may work better than the ramp since you'll fall onto a flat surface then be transported up to the rover, and now I've got something I want to try to design :D
@glenmcgillivray4707
@glenmcgillivray4707 25 күн бұрын
@Splitsie I figured if you are holding the ladder, you are connected to the base of the piston, climb up, past all the erratic joins that make the piston itself, to a platform at the top some six blocks up (in case of maximum extension scenarios allow room for pivoting at max length), then drop back down onto the rover from above. Allowing it to tilt backwards would prevent you getting 'off' the ladder into clear air when driving uphill because you always have a platform before you, even on a forward tilt, because we can eliminate a lot of backwards tilt scenarios. I mostly suggest a rotor because a low friction rotor with limits will swing to the centre of gravity when unpowered, which is perfectly fine. Hinges seem to clang more. But either way, the tail can use sensors to stop the big rotor when it detects proximity, but you can't climb it in steep terrain, but maybe a longer ladder will help? Actually climb a block or two so you can't drop out? Definately a sensor fix for the Tail is useful, but you can't always be confident you can climb to the top currently when it is angled steeply.
@ShuRugal

"how things do a float" is simple: 1 - when you add something to water, the level of the water must go up. That is, the object sinking into water must lift the water it is sinking through. 2 - in order to do this, the thing sinking into the water must weigh more than the water it will lift at the point where it is fully submerged water (pure) masses one ton per cubic meter. If you have a one cubic meter object, then it only needs to meet 2 conditions to float: 1. it must be sealed so that water cannot enter it 2. it must mass less than one ton. Alternately, if it cannot be sealed, it must be constructed of materials less dense than water, which will ensure that it always weighs less than it displaces.
@ewokYT117
@ewokYT117 Ай бұрын
Another issue with this bridge, if it definitely will be submerged at the middle of the crossing, is the balance of the Wronco and the buoyancy of the Wronco tyres. If the buoyancy of the tyres is greater than the bridges tanks, the Wronco will lift off the bridge and be swept away. Possible solutions to this problem, • Use guide fails to stop the drifting off of the bridge. • Use the currently built bridge as a foundation for an elevated roadway, which will make Entry on / Exit off of the bridge much safer and easier.

Omg I just saw the placing a hinge, then remove head, and add hinge part to opposite side… I always adjust angle, and use mag plates, after seeing this I feel silly. What a time saver. Also it’s always funny to see folks suggest really basic ideas (often flawed) to someone who has probably taught half of us a good chunk of what we know about this game, and had created custom things that we play, but the suggestions sound as if you have basically never played. Ideas being bounced back and forth is always cool, and can lead to neat ideas, but sometimes it’s nearly cringe how basic and flawed suggestions I hear are. But all entertaining.

me watching the Vod be like: *banging on soundproof window* "splitsieeee, thats the old system!!! SPLITSIEEEE!!! hydrogen tanks arent the main flotation mechanic anymore!! splitsieeeee!!! have you not read the designguide on the modpage splitsiee!?! youre wasting so much iron for minimal effect Splitsieee!!!" also a tip for swimming: you can only swim by pressing spacebar, which moves you up, so dont look towards the surface of the water, or else you move sideways, it feels unintuitive, since humans usually look towards the surface to surface, but thats the way it is (basically like the jetpack but only in one direction).........at least thats in my experience, you can move forwards normaly, slowly, but effectivily swimming up only works with spacebar if i remember correctly also hearing "is zeitgeist still used" sure sounds odd to me, a german, its always funny seeing german loanwords and their strange use and pronunciation in english (dont get me started on Angst, that and anxiety are just different words for fear from other languages that english nabbed and used for slightly different kinds of fear, instead of inventing its own words for it) alsososo the bridge may hold for the smallgrid, but definitly not the big one, even if youd build a second bridge, maybe by building small wheels under it and balancing across, the big wheels acting as floatation and while i dont knwo the exact values, im certain that building the pontoons out of hollow halfblock rooms would be as effective if not more so and way cheaper (and dont forget the air vents, they dont even have to be inside, im not sure if every part would need one or if the subgrids would work, as you technically only need one vent per grid for it to work) alsosososos yeah, when the h2 tank fill the bridge will sink also tell tiffany that the spoiler has to have for- and upward facing slopes of any kind to actually work (the opposite of lift), right now he only expanded its gliding wingspan and stability
@Splitsie
@Splitsie Ай бұрын

I don't want to sound like a "negative nancy", but if the bridge you're constructing is only just wide enough for TFE's rover. How on earth is it going to accommodate the Bucking Wronco?I Unless, that this a fitting end for the Wronco.. Sea burial. This episode is 3+ hours and the bridge isn't even half way across. Also going that distance on a floating bridge will have lots of sagging around the Wronco. I give it 50-60% of a safe crossing. Unless you cheat with stiffening up the hinges.

Im using ryzen 5 with onbaord vega 11, i think its about time to stop using intel. A replacement will bring u back here within a month with another issue, at least amd is stable compared.

@@Splitsie Nowadays I spend a lot of time not playing but still being social with people - been over to Iceland for Fanfest a bunch of times as well as Eve Vegas about 5 times and Eve North (canada) not to mention London meets more times than I can count.
