OMG. I was a grip assistant on that movie. It was shot in Luxembourg. Very interesting shoot. What good memories ;) Thanks for covering it. It´s an obscure movie with great actors, sets and ideas. Yes, it´s worth a watch.

I found the DVD by accident at a video store in Eastern Europe back in the early 2000s. Didn't know anything about it since it lacked promotion. I thought someone made a cash grab of a movie to make money on the memory of an old classic, but I was blown away. The casting, the setting, the visuals and the color scheme... Brilliant. And I was pleasantly surprised by the amont of humor that actually landed well.

F.W. Murnau: "How dare you destroy my photographer!" Max Schreck: "Did i kill some of your people? I can't remember." F.W. Murnau: "Why him, you monster? Why not the... script girl?" Max Schreck: "Oh. The script girl. I'll eat her later."

I LOVED this movie, Willem Dafoe should have won an Oscar for his portrayal because he was absolutely fantastic. The idea is also genius, as a re-telling of arguably the first major vampire film in history being made. You're the first page I've encountered that mentions Shadow of the Vampire, as a "horror comedy" and I realized, that is actually quite a correct way to put it, because there are many incidents in the movie that come off as downright funny. Max Schreck many times moves around almost like a cartoon character, fleeing and being ridiculously over the top, like when he first meets Gretta. Its subtle things, not in your face, like many things that Max Schreck says "magnificent bosom" just come off as so out of left field you can't help but laugh. This movie is so unique, but well written, the cast absolutely amazing, simply EVERYONE in it is great, but Dafoe stands at the peak of the performances.

Casting Willem Dafoe in any role is always a fuckin brilliant idea. This movie just proves my point to the 'nth degree. And now he's come full circle, co-starring in the new Nosferatu film opening on Christmas day.

I was fortunate enough to catch this one on the big screen when it first came out, and remember enjoying it immensely. So much so that as soon as it was over, I headed straight to the record store and purchased a copy of the soundtrack. The score by Dan Jones is some real top-notch stuff, perfectly effective, and impressive when you learn it was very first soundtrack gig.

I never got the love for this movie, it was hammy, and the recreations were stupid and over over acted even moreso than in Nosferatu. Dafoe was awful and acted like he was a villain in a Joel Schumacher Batman movie. Wasn’t anything close to max schrek and his low key creepiness.

Platform shoes.... It sucks to be a part of the group that gets constant suicide fuel, and it's relentless. Whether it's Carlton, short wolverine, or so many other things. It's great to be reminded that it takes a massive, spectacle based campaign that is largely founded on virtue signalling and high levels of litigation. It sucks because most short men will just " Man" through the insults, you perfect, privileged people never live through or see the hurt. Find true maturity and empathy please!
