I don't think it's fair to blame the TV direction to much this race. We did follow a very close gap between Sainz and Norris for 4 laps and nothing happened. Some of the gaps going down were immediately an overtake and switching around for every move already happening means we only see half of it. The race itself was so action packed and we definitely did still get to see a lot of it, wasn't perfect, but different race weekends deserve more blame than this one imo!

McLarens have potential to decide the Driver's championship. Ricc has started to get comfortable with the car and they're proving difficult to pass even for Merc as they're so fast in a straight line. Norris defensive driving is also insane. Yeah so if the Mercs and RedBull don't have a massive pace advantage clearing them in the future races would be very difficult. What cost Lando his win was how he reacted in those crazy 6 laps. All drivers were communicating with their teams closely. Meanwhile, Lando was asking his engineer to shut up. For a race leader, he didn’t seem to be interested in knowing and understanding what was happening around him. Mclaren’s lack of info wasn’t the issue here. Daniel made the call with the same info as Norris. The other teams had the same info as Mclaren but still made the call (well their drivers did). When Lewis pitted, the best decision was to cover that pit and accept the P2 position. But it was clear that the team didn’t want P2. It was win or nothing. They got nothing, well P7. Wouldn’t say gutted for Lando’s lost because at the end of the day, everyone gambled and had so much to lose just as much as the front runners. Again, the rain came for everyone and could have potentially ruined everyone’s race. It’s really down to how the drivers handled it. All teams (apart from Mercs) were giving the shots to the drivers. After all, they are the best judge in that moment.

but don't forget the emotion involved when after all these years (karting etc) your first ever F1 win is 6 laps away, something you dream about from the early years, it is right there in front of you, just keep it on the track just a few more laps? Lewis had his doubts too. i would've stayed out

@@crabsodyinblue The doubt was never an issue here. Even Max had doubts before calling for Inters. If you listen to all the drivers radio, there was a staggering difference between Lando and the rest. Okay just take a look at Lewis’ response. @@Vislow A lot of drivers were told the same amount of rain is expected. Only the Mercs had the info that it will be heavier. Look, the pressure is all part of the game. If you crack, you lose. It’s the name of the game. The people who were spot on with the call didn’t know either if it was the right call but they called it anyways. Had it not pay off, they all lose the position they were holding on to. Example was Daniel who was running in P6. He was out of points after he boxed. That’s a huge chunk of points lost at the end of the day. Yes the front runners are in a tight posiiton, but that doesn’t mean the others weren’t. Again, the rain came down for everyone and all teams and drivers were tested. Some gained, some failed and Lando was one of those. Im also specifically pointing put how he was communicating with his Race Engineer bec clearly he was cracking under pressure, hence his attitude. Lewis was hesitant but at least he was conversing with the team. He was questioning the team while Lando was dismissing the team. That made the difference.

It seems unfair Checo's grade, especially when they seem to forget Checo got into 3rd place with good tyre strategy and management, but got stuck behind ricciardo due to a bad pit stop (which seems to be a common occurrence for Checo with RB), otherwise he would have been closer to Lando and Hamilton and would have been with a easier choice when changing to Inters in that situation... Not saying Checo was completely blameless for the result, after all it was ultimately his choice to wait before changing his tyres, but A) he wouldn't have been in that situation if not for his team's bad pit stop and B) Lando made the same decision but HE still got an A (almost A*) from them, i mean i like you WTF1 but sometimes... sometimes... you're clearly totally wrong and biased, but that's OK, like you said, we're all just fans.

Checo, Bottas, and Hamilton all stayed out too long on the inter because they didn’t want to risk the softs. That meant that they qualified with their fastest lap on the inters (I think). Perez did not set a good time, on his first run but we know he’s not a great qualified and if he’d been able to do a proper second run, he’d have been top 5 easily. But he recovered anyway and could have achieved a podium if not for a long pit stop and wrong call (which many other drivers made, and which is completely understandable). You could argue that Checo needs to be better in Qualifying, but we’ve seen that he can have a good start and then factor into the race as it progresses. Experience wasn’t a factor as Seb, Perez and Alonso all wanted to stay out. If that second front of rain didn’t come everyone who’s boxed would have looked like the idiots. The thing is Sky Sports is a UK broadcaster that is for the UK audience. Other countries buy the rights to to Sky Sports. Ziggo is hugely biased towards Max, the French commentators are biased towards Ocon and Gasly and the same for the Spanish commentators with Sainz and Alonso. Out of all of them Sky is the least biased towards its own drivers. I’m not British and I don’t find them that biased. The problem isn’t Sky it’s the fact that they are the only English broadcasting option and there is no neutral commentary.

Exact numbers are impossible to obtain -- there are hundreds of thousands of people critical of Hamilton despite his millions of fans. Statistically, Hamilton at 36 is the most successful driver of his generation. Verstappen at 23 is the NEXT generation. Drivers in their 30’s include Vettel, Riccardo, and Bottas. Drivers in their 20’s include LeClerc, Russell, and Norris. Discussions of GOAT are controversial because it requires comparisons across generations, machinery, and regulations.

@Adjudicator1
@Adjudicator1 2 жыл бұрын
It is not just Lando Norris who is stressed. I believe the entire McLaren pitwall's lack of experience while in race winning positions and under heavy suppression, pressure and information overload also made them have analysis paralysis, that may have caused them to read the weather radar wrongly. If you also listen to Daniel Ricciardo's Team Radio, the McLaren pitwall were not very decisive and too passive, and RIC had to take the initiative to make the call for intermediates. Even up front, Lewis Hamilton wanted to try and continue racing with Lando Norris to the end, but was urged by the Mercedes Pitlane to pit for intermediates. Their greater combined experience level (Mercedes Pitwall + Lewis Hamilton) gave them enough suppression tolerance to not suffer tunnel vision and lose the big picture. Compare to the McLaren pitwall being more passive (Leaving decision to the driver - In Lando Norris' case, is stressed out with suppression shock) Like I mentioned, seeing this reminds me of military tactical games: Trying to have a suppressed unit navigate a minefield / ambush zone is usually fatal.

How can Lando and Leclerc have different grades??? Lando A and Leclerc B? They had literally the same race. They were both brilliant the whole race, till the rain, when they lost it all. Lando leading the race, Leclerc climbing through the field. Leclerc even got screwed by a slow pitstop and made up for it again and was right behind Verstappen. Ironically, the fact that he was "too fast", that he was just behind Sainz when the rain came (who started P2 and Lec P19!) was what doomed him in the end: they couldn't pit them in the same lap without Lec losing a lot of time because they were too close for a managable double pit stop (according to Ferrari), that's why they chose to gamble. When the rain came, both Lando and Leclerc stayed out, which was the fault of both the team and the driver. Actually, I would put more blame on Ferrari than on Mclaren. One was going for a rare win, where you may take "all or nothing" risks, the other should have just gone for the safest path for points. Lando seemed determined to stay out and silenced his team, but Leclerc's whole radio in the last laps is a complete mess, a complete fkup by Ferrari. I get that people are gutted for Lando and his lost victory, but the end was as much his fault (and the team's) as Leclerc's. Absolutely same grade, same performance.

32:10 Mercedes have confirmed they're pushing the engine harder than planned to keep up with RBR's development. Max has 3 PUs left. One very new PU (less than 3 races), and one brand spanking new PU (1 race). His other PU is not capable of doing races anymore, but it's used to run FP 1-2 last I checked, so they can save mileage on the 2 race PUs. Hamilton's already scrapped 1 PU at FP2 Zandvoort. Let's say they did 7 races with it (could be 6 as well, no engine has ever done 8 full races as far as I know). He's left with 2 now. They need to push one PU to 8 races, the other to 7 minimum, *AND* do qualifying, practice and everything else with just those 2 PUs which are already being pushed harder than expected in the races... I doubt they'd take that risk. Worryingly, if it's true what Mercedes has said about Bottas' Monza PU, then they have serious QC problems... So Hamilton's new engine may be riddled with issues. Already checking a 1 race old PU because you suspect it's damaged isn't a good thing...

Intent matters. It’s not who the driver was that decided this, it’s the driver’s intent. Lando has 8 penalty points, most of any driver atm, clearly the aren’t averse to giving him penalties.

Yep, agree with Katy, a great season all around and it was very decisive and illustrative of team strategy and timing in the quali etc, the fact that the very on-paper normal finish didn't look like that at all 5laps from the end... Hamilton Verstappen 1, 2 would be nothing to write home about any other day and the fact that it wasn't show all the ways it was nuts, but also, there have been many races that had this level of interest and "this is racing at it's best / most interesting" this season, making it such a phenomenal season all around; can't wait for what the rest will bring!

I get the idea behind dropping Bottas back to hold up Verstappen before he gets into the points. But it’s completely undone by how consistently Bottas can’t hold up Verstappen

everyone knew about the second wave of heavy rain from the radar, its why bono over rules Hamilton in the call to pit. Lando doesn't have the radar infront of him, its up to the team to let him know that.

can we just acknowledge if lando pitted at the same time as lewis, this race woulda been 10x better than it already was, cuz not only would we have had a great last 4 laps, we woulda had a true battle between the pit crews

So verstappen (lucky or not) get from 20 to 2nd place and in the post race interview he gets (quite relieved that you get a clean race under your belt). And you say there is no British bias!!!.. or the fact that Carlos gets asked only one question but whenever lando or russel are in the podium, we get a full interview!! Really NO British bias.. I a huge fan of the sport and I cheer for both LH and MV. I just hope that if MV won he won’t get (most valuable man in formula 1 and doesn't have a blond hair) but the ( this the greatest driver ever) that Lewis gets.

"Sainz, please tell us more about how you got third!" No one wants to hear that, and Sainz doesn't want to waste his own time answering softball questions about how good 3rd is. He was practically walking away already during the last question. First place has the longest interview, second place has a bit shorter, and third always gets a quick one.

Russel has literally had one podium so obviously he would get more time 🙄. Also in this race clearly the talking points were Lewis 100 and Norris loss.
