How is it not an exciting race when people get almost everything they’ve been asking for? Wet race, loads of overtakes, legendary wheel-to-wheel action, Hamilton didn’t win, an overtake for the lead, tricky strategy calls, title lead changes hands. I think we should appreciate the action in that race. We don’t need chaos and red flags for racing to be interesting.

I do agree that perez has been off this season in some races like Spa, Spain, etc., but like bashing on him every single podcast is not on point. Firstly, he has done better than gasly and albon when they were in that red bull seat, being alex's minimum 6th in 2019 and 4th in 2020. He (albon) was pretty good in 2019, but in 2020 he seemed to struggle so much. I really don't get how you say his qualifying is better than sergio when he was loosing out in Q2 pretty much half of the races in 2020, and most of those races he didn't even made ground up from his errors in qualy (Nurbugring, Sochi, Sakhir, Silverstone...), but sergio did made ground up from pretty much all his races, and in qualy has fallen in Q2 a couple of times. His racecraft is much better than gasly when he was in RB. He has helped Max in Portugal, Baku, Austria 1, Sochi being behing lewis until the pistop of 9 seconds, Turkey... He has already done more than Both Gasly and Albon. Ad when he loses out 4th place in qualy, is against drivers like Norris, Leclerc and Gasly, the tree of them driving a car which have adapted over 3 years nearly, and taking into account that this year the midfielders are much closer between them and also closer to the top teams... And I just really don't get how you keep saying that he has to be in the same pace as bottas, hamilton and verstappen, He has not even been in that seat one year and you expect to be right there with them when bottas has been in merc since 2017, Hamilton nearly 8 years, and Max since 4 or so years. I don't think I ever wrote soemthing this long, but I'm just tired of people bashing sergio soooo much.

Perfectly echoes my feelings! P.s. Checo can't become a superb quali driver overnight. But still if he's half a second off Max(which he is normally), it's perfectly acceptable as his racecraft comes in to play then. I totally agree he had some rubbish races this year, but even when he had pretty good performances like Monza and Russia, they just can't seem to be appreciative of him.

Ocon in an Alpine barely making it without completely shredding his tyres, while losing up to four seconds a lap or Hamilton in a Mercedes hunting for a podium isn't quite a fair comparison. I think Ocon was quite lucky not to DNF and Hamilton would've completely blown his tyres with the pace he needed to get into third. If he really wanted to stay out at that last pit-stop he still was entitled to not come in as he did when the call came in 5 laps earlier. He decided to ignore the box despite his crew's call and came in on the call when it was too late? What I'm trying to say is that you can't ignore an "order" at the right time, then decide to go with it at the wrong time and to then also throw your team under the bus because you ignore your part in the decision is uncalled for. And if you decide to call out Norris, Räikkönen or Tsunoda for being rude to their team, then don't defend Hamilton for doing the same, whatever his reasons or whatever the circumstance. It's hypocritical and sounds biased, which I still don't think you are, but also causes people who dislike Hamilton to hate him even more, JUST because of the unintended bias as it facilitates their reasons for the dislike.

To me, there are 2 questions to ask with the Hamilton strategy: 1. Is there a decent chance that one of the tires blows out and Hamilton has to drive on 3 wheels? (Silverstone 2020 flashbacks) 2. Is there a decent chance that Hamilton loses around 25 seconds because of the tires degrading? (I don't remember the exact gap to Gasly at the time) If the answer to both questions are no, then you are for sure sacrificing 2 positions by making him pit. While, with Hamilton staying and going for the 0 stop strategy, there is a chance that he does not lose any positions, or only 1, because it's really hard to overtake when there is only 1 dry line.

Double standards: I think a good portion of people don't like Hamilton's dealing with the team this race NOT because of him expressing emotion but specifically on WHY he's expressing it. Lewis is free to want to be involved in the decision making process and I'm sure they will work on better communication but the initial choice from the team to bring him in would have been a good one (better one, arguably), while Lewis just objectively screwed up in that. Speaking in probability, it's absolutely the most stupid idea to A) run the risk of a tire blowout, B) drop off so much that overtakes are even more likely to cost places, C) changeable conditions that screw you over completely if driving on slintermediates. Maybe Bono and the team should communicate that better, maybe Hamilton needs to trust his team, who generally makes the correct call (whether in outcome or in probabilities speaking). Either way, it's a very different situation from Norris telling his engineer to shut up. Hamilton has said that kind of thing in the past as well when full under pressure or in tricky conditions and usually, it's the same amount of people that complain (who generally complain about any team radio, even though it's a high pressure sport and difficult circumstances). It's the fact that there's a difference in the situations that needs to be appreciated.

@@jairajsinghshaktawat6593 I would not use the term 'abused' here, that's not a term to use lightly when describing criticism. But you can certainly criticize him for doing that, and the subsequent complaints to his team. It's also his right (and I urge him to do that) to ignore those criticisms completely. Moreover, some leniency given the difficult circumstances of driving an f1 car are certainly welcome, but it's still an acceptable thing to criticize him for. If I saw other drivers do this against a team that brought them as much as Merc did Hamilton, I would criticize them too.

The point about Hamilton listening to his team in Russia but not in Turkey is just wrong. Hamilton didn't do anything differently in Turkey than he did in Russia. The team told him to pit, he said no and blew them off the first time around, both in Russia and in Turkey. The only difference is in Russia the team made him come in a lap later, in Turkey they then agreed to him staying out.

@@franciscoferreira6672 Nope, and for the simple reason that teams have no say on penalties, drive through, etc. You can get a penalty for not fulfilling the pitstop requirement, but that's again not a team penalty. And if you had half a brain, you'd know this because drivers repeatedly ignore their team calling them in to pit. Maybe you're confused with teams telling drivers to stop for safety reasons, for which they are required to stop (seatbelts not working, etc.). But ignoring a team telling you to pit is in no way illegal, and in no way leads to an fia-sanctioned penalty. But I'm sure you have aaaall the evidence right there to prove me wrong right? Right?

Furthermore it was wetter if I am not mistaken, which probably extended the tires life. Matt should really look at some data before talking about stuff, because he has 0 arguments to back anything up other than what he thinks And saying "if Esteban did it, I could have done it" is kinda funny, because even if Esteban did it, the strategy was not great. I mean even if he kept doing 1.35.xyz he would have lost 2.5 to 3s a lap to the drivers behind him. So I can't see how staying out could have worked better. I think most people are missing the point as to why Hamilton was angry at Mercedes. When he was told to pit at the end of the race he was complicit with the team despite arguing laps before, but instantly as he came out he was furious, which tells me Merc didn't tell him he was going to loss 2 position. Even Button mentioned this in commentary that shows me that Merc tricked Hamilton into pitting which is a crazy breach of trust (probably by with holding information about where he would end up). That to me is a bigger talking point than anything else that happened this race.

Then made 2-3 attacks on Vettel, almost getting him one time too. More surprising thing was, when Sainz pitted and came behind him, he wasn't able to overtake on fresh inters on Ocon instantly. He held off Sainz attacks for 5-7 laps. On then 45 laps old inters. And the fact that there was no SC/VSC/DNF whole race, only meant he had to manage his tyres for whole race without letting up once. This was more than a C class performance for sure.

Not sure I agree with the mandatory pitstop. I think in some places it will be a no-brainer hard tyres 0 pitstop situation (thinking Monaco, Monza, etc) but I honestly don't think that's the fastest strategy on most circuits. I'd like to see it being trailled for a couple of races (or perhaps 1 season) with the exception of the Monacos, the Monzas, to see how it goes at various circuits as if it works, that could open up strategy unpredictability.
