1. Contact between Perez and Leclerc: Perez stayed to the left to avoid the cardinal sin in Formula One: i.e. making the mistake of crashing into one’s teammate. Had Perez gifted Leclerc the position on the left and crashed into his teammate on the right that would have massively screwed Red Bull in both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships, and tarnished his genuinely favorable position within the Team. Just compare Red Bull's outcome after this tricky race with that of the Scuderia Alpha Tauri after the Tsunoda-into-Gasly incident. 2. Difference in performance from Perez vs Leclerc damage: The right front-wing endplate is not as important as the left front-wing endplate at Silverstone because the most aerodynamically-demanding corners are medium to higher-speed right-hand turns. These right hand turns would heavily load up the left-hand side of the car, not the right. Another factor is just the general aerodynamic design. The impact of the loss of front wing endplate (even if it was on the same side of the car) on the two different cars will not be the same because the downstream aerodynamics are quite different.

Thanks for the detailed analysis. My take on 1. was that Perez once again had a better start than Max, had to back out and got screwed over as a result. Same as in Australia. They always fail to notice that in the podcast. In Australia, they blamed Perez for losing a place to Hamilton due to a "bad start" when in reality, it was quite the opposite.

@@ehrlichgesagt863 I think that's a point that's worth driving home; Leclerc never would have made it round the apex without either understeering wide or crashing into Perez; he simply came from too far back and braked too late to make that line work. In my view it was a racing incident as Checo also did shut the door a bit too aggressively, but the people out there saying Perez was at fault for that crash really fail to account for the fact that Leclerc was nowhere near alongside at corner entry, and it was a bit of a desperate dive up the inside.

C for Ocon is harsh. Literally everything that happened whole weekend was out of his control. Electrical issue in Qualy, got shunted on lap 1 with no fault of his own, Fuel pump failure (maybe after effect of the shunt) ending his race. He was on for P7 for goodness sake!!! And even then, he was literally the reason Alonso even got to 5th, or else he was going to finish 6th. How do creators ignore such thing is beyond me.

Yeah, I often tend to find them overly harsh in general outside of their favourites. Not that the ratings mean anything anyway.
@skylark1024
@skylark1024 2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSilverHawkins Yeah nobody cares of rating anyway. But yeah point being they only observe their favorite drivers and analyze their race more than other drivers too. They undermine certain drives as well. Prime Example, Ocon in Canada, where after final restart he kelp Alonso in DRS for whole race to help him keep position. But this channel never touched into that subject. Also they gave Alonso A and Ocon B, because ironically Alonso had a few, "uncontrollable" issues. And an average F1 viewer would be misinformed, getting the idea that Ocon didn't do anything that race. Same thing this week. As Ocon once said "This is favoritism!!"

@@bakeshield2761 3 seconds? Hold on... Q1, Alonso did 1:41.5, Ocon did 1:41.7. That is 2 tenths. Q2, ok 3 seconds off. Let's see, he was 9 tenths off even Ricciardo...the very next car. Do you really think any driver of F1 caliber would just suddenly lose all the sense of wet driving? In wet weather, which was getting worse after the start of Q2. He himself stated that battery issue costed him straight-line speed. If "having wheel knowledge" is considered, you can rely on an F1 driver statement, no? Yes after lap 1 he gained 2 places but he was still not in the points. He restarted 13th. And considerably slower than Alpha Tauri? mate Gasly was heading the slow train of Tsunoda and Ocon, with Latifi right behind. If Latifi was in that DRS train, how does that make Ocon considerably slower? Won't that be Gasly? Who was heading that train? I will agree Alonso was faster this weekend. But considering where they started, that gap is more or less expected. Maybe under 20 sec would be more justifiable. From Canada I have no complains, Alonso was faster. I was just stating an example that Alonso's external issues were addressed by people while Ocon's from Silverstone were not. All I am saying is not to just glance over a driver's race and say, meh whatever, next. People will be misinformed like that.

Got gifted the lead again because of Verstappen damage. Leclerc was faster, had to pit to get away from him. After pit stops Leclerc was still faster, had to let him through. Got gifted the lead again through the safety car call and Ferrari's bad strategy with Leclerc, leaving him out on used hards. He had 2 pitstops over 4s which put him in a drs train while his drs wasn't working. He then had to get another pitstop for them to shut his drs manually. He's far from being great but the team has been screwing him up a lot lately.

I think these guys are thoroughly underestimating the pace of the Red Bull. When Verstappen got past Sainz Leclerc wasn't close enough to take advantage. Perez got a broken wing, but shuffled down the order but still managed to get themselves on the podium. Problem is that a driver can't tell to the team that he is coming in the pit lane since the team needs to have the tyres and all ready. Without the team being on-board, Leclerc would have just been sitting in the pit-lane waiting for the tyres. Driver can only oppose coming in the pit-lane when the decision needs to be taken in a few seconds time. If there is time to discuss, then it's a different matter.

Ferrari had 2 cars in front of Hamilton. They don't know if he can pit or not. They either double stack, letting him pass and easy win, or neither pits and he pits, letting him easily catch them up, OR they can pit one and not the other, accounting for both of Hamilton's strategy choices. That third accounts for the most luck so they choose it. Now they choose who to pit, so they go for Sainz, who is closest to Hamilton giving them some time to react to Hamilton's team radio strat call. Now they can just have Sainz hold Hamilton up by 10 car lengths while Leclerc makes enough distance to get away safe, and sainz with the same wheels and better machinery can hold off Hamilton. The strat was actually not bad. They would have gotten near guaranteed 1-2, but then Sainz of course didn't want to fight Hamilton that close and lose his win so their plan fell apart. The fact none of you even tried to mention Sainz disobeying the team's strategy call is so confusing. Ferrari tried to get the Leclerc win and the 1-2 and their only mistake was not counting on Sainz disobeying their ruling
@AkshatKai
@AkshatKai 2 жыл бұрын
If they double stack and Hamilton doesn't pit, it still would have been easy for both Ferrari's to pass him on fresh soft tyres especially when there was more than 8 laps of racing left. If it was only a couple of laps, then it might make sense, but more than 5 laps just doesn't make sense. Ferrari's reasoning was that they expected soft tyres to drop off after just 2 laps which also doesn't make sense when we saw Verstappen start a race on soft tyres. No one would be starting on soft tyres if they are going to pit within 5 laps. Hamilton was slightly quicker than Sainz throughout the whole race. Sainz would not have been able to hold off Hamilton within DRS range on the same tyres. Sainz made the right call at that time not to give 10 car length distance as that would have put him outside the DRS window, allowing Hamilton and Perez to easily pass him. 10 laps would have been more than sufficient for them to catch up to Leclerc and overtake him and Ferrari would have ended with 3rd and 4th. Ferrari simply messed up Leclerc's strategy.

47:45 That's actually a good lead for Netflix, a lot of drama and controversy potential there 😄 How can Ferrari be the only ones, literally the only ones, in the F1 community that haven't realized yet who should be their No1 driver this season? Why did they favor Sainz over Leclerc in the race? Why do they keep letting Sainz overrule team instruction, which then always leads to disadvantage for Leclerc? What hold does Sainz has on Binotto? What politics could be going on behind the scenes? 😀 What was that scene after the race, with Binotto scolding Leclerc, when there was literally nothing to scold him for? He was actually very very moderate on the radio, congratulated Sainz right away. What was that telling off for, then? Should Leclerc stand up for himself more to be WDC? If Sunday had happened to Max, he would have shouted and sworn the team's head off on the radio. Lewis would have told his team off as well, in his more diplomatic but salty way. Why didn't Ferrari swap their drivers much sooner? They were acting like a team whose No2 driver (like Perez) surprisingly happens to be faster than their No1 driver and championship contender (like Verstappen) in a race, and asking for a swap, and the team suddenly doesn't know what to do in such a weird and rare situation. BUT it was the other way around, fgs 😄 Why have Ferrari still not owned their mistake? Their justifications are either complete nonsense or sound like they favored Sainz deliberately. "We didn't do a double stack because Sainz might have lost time and position to Hamilton?" As Tommy says here, why on earth would they think about Sainz atm? 47:27 Is it true what they say in the Italian media, that since Canada Ferrari has set the goal that they focus on Sainz getting his first win? 😄 Is it true that Binotto likes him more? Do they not care about the championships at all? What was Santander's (Ferrari's Spanish sponsor) salty comment on Ferrari's Leclerc appreciation post on Monday? So much Netflix potential 😂😂😂

I agree. This. This is so true. The entire focus is on just 2 drivers this early in the season. The whole podcast was about making Sainz's win and Checo's P2 underwhelming. I mean, whatever the circumstances, they're up there regardless. I hate the argument that when Charles or Max win even after making mistakes, they're giving them A* and saying they were at the right place at the right time; and yet making Carlos/Checo's podium seem underwhelming. I mean, they were at the right place at the right time as well and made the most of the situation given to them. When the safety car came out, if they had pitted both Leclerc and Sainz and Hamilton stayed out, they would have come back out in P2 and P3. Perez was 21 seconds behind when the SC started, so with the SC speeds that was well over 30 seconds. But that was irrelevant anyway as Perez needed to pit no matter what. He was still on the 33 lap old mediums he had put on with his wing change at the end of lap 5 (so he hadn't had the mandatory compound change yet). Also if they were worried of holding up Sainz with the double stack they could have told him: "Slow in... Make a gap to Charles for double stacking". I think Bottas did just that to Max with a VSC in Saudi Arabia last year. Sainz could have dropped back to Charles all the way down the straight and around Stowe to have that comfortable gap for the double stack. Lewis would not have been able to do anything about it and they may have come out in P1 and P2. I do think in that case they would have left Hamilton out though as his hard tires were only 5 laps old. With the better warmup, 2 compound grippier fresh tires and a car that's faster anyway, I think both Charles and Carlos should have been able to get past Hamilton quite quickly in that case even though Hamilton would have defended his position like crazy.

@@SWatchik it absolutely could matter still. First thing that came to mind was Lance stroll 2020 Bahrain race, he obvs had to wiggle under the halo to get out but the role hoop propped the car up and helped provide a gap for him to get out that had it not been there, it would have been just halo on the ground and that’s dangerous, he’d have been properly upside down for an extended period of time, unable to get out of a dangerous car.

We were in club corner grandstand and I thought I'd witnessed a death. We saw the start, saw loads of smoke and dust then didnt really know what happened. Ambulances were streaming onto the track and we had literally no clue what was going on but feared the worst. It was my first gp in person, and just the radio silence and lack of replays (obviously I was familiar with what that means in motorsport) made me think I was literally witnessing a fatality. Romain Grosjean's crash was horrific beyond belief, but I guess the only "silver lining" for any spectactators would be that the replay was out within 1 min because of how quickly it was over, but waiting what felt like at least 10 minutes was agonising beyond belief. I cannot even begin to have any concept of how horrendous it would have been for the drivers, marshalls, Zhou and the people in village grandstand. I am just so thankful for the halo (and also the survival cell). It's saved several lives undoubtedly on its own and I'd say it's potentially the best safety innovation ever in F1

I think that if you have a damaged car and the other driver is the pole sitter, you prioritize the pole sitter. Keeping Leclerc out in order to grab the win with the undamaged car of Sainz was the correct decision for the team. Stop watching the world through charles-tinted glasses.

Leclerc was demonstrably capable of driving the same, if not better, pace as Sainz despite the damage though. It looked visually impressive, but clearly it didn't slow the car down that much. I think it was a very difficult call to make, as it always is when you have to give up track position from the lead, but the damage to Leclerc's car isn't the argument to be making for or against Ferrari's strategy.

I'm not a longtime F1 fan but wasn't Mercedes criticized for prioritising Hamilton over bottas for many years. How is what Ferrari did this weekend worse? For Ferrari to win a title, both of their drivers have to be excellent like verstappen and checo at redbull. Now that Sainz has got his first win, we would be much more confident and assertive in his driving which would keep Ferrari in the hunt for title and also in some races he could help Leclerc like checo helped verstappen in Abu Dhabi last year.
@Jur1_00
@Jur1_00 2 жыл бұрын
It's worse because they threw away an easy 1-2 with both redbulls out. If they have switched the cars during the first stint instead of putting sainz so they don't have to make a decision, they could have gone longer on the mediums and would have had enough space and time to double stack

1) Horrendous to see the roll hoop fail like that. FIA needs to investigate the Alfa car (and possibly all cars) to make sure they are appropriately fixed to the car. The halo has saved the day once again. Thank the lord he's ok! 2) Absolutely mega racing through the field. I honestly don't mind any of the moves on track that people seem to be upset about. Either from Charlie outside the track vs. Perez (and vice versa), Perez nudging Lewis out, or Max on Charles. All fair racing IMO as long as it's not egregious. Max vs. Mick was epic! 3) I'm really interested to find out whether that red flag was so quick because of the accident or if it was actually because there were 5 twats sat on the track half way through the lap. 4) Hardest call for driver of the day ever. Lewis, Checo, Charlie all in with a shout for different reasons. Lewis cause doing Lewis things and making some delicious moves. Checo cause last to 2nd and could have beat Carlos IMO if he was P2 after the SC restart. Charlie cause he had better pace than Carlos with a damaged car and made some outrageous moves on tyres that were put on in Canada. 5) Lewis hit the apex at Copse proving it is possible to leave the car on the outside sufficient space!
