Honestly it makes me so glad that Katy is more confident in voicing her opinions and challenging Matt and Tommy. Her articles are incredibly well informed and she understands the sport just as the others do, her opinion is just as valid as Matt’s. Good contributions to the discussion, particularly in those topics where Matt is predictable, such as slandering Perez. You go Katy!!

Honestly katy is the most well informed of the 3 but sometimes lets herself get steamrolled. She is always well versed in the rules and more knowledgible about what went on during the race whereas the other two are more often than not going off their gut and provide more of a comedic relief than actual expert commentary

100% agree with Tommy that RB would sacrifice WCC for WDC all day long. One thing that wasn't mentioned - Red Bull isn't a car company. If it was Ferrari or Merc that WCC stat is important to the brand legacy as "the fastest/best car"... RB is a drinks company who's whole brand is "cool young people doing cool stuff" - Max as champ is so much more worthwhile for them.

Checo was pitted while in 10th at Silverstone. In terms of the WCC, the gap didn't change by pitting Perez. It was smart by Red Bull to do that. Not sure why this is still a big deal. Contrary to what Tommy said, Checo was absolutely not 7th.
@AshHill07
@AshHill07 2 жыл бұрын
Perez was also under investigation at the time, and a 5 second penalty would have put him out the points. So the options were: - Stay in 10th, risking the fact that getting a penalty will mean no points anyway - Pit and go for fastest lap and deny Mercedes a point instead, something a penalty won't change Why's it a surprise that RedBull went with the option they had more control over?

The silverstone pitting perez incident for fastest lap is different. The only one who lost out was Perez. If we ignore Verst and Bottas for a sec, and focus on the two parties in play; Constructors wise; if Ham scores +26pts for merc via 25+1 and Per scores +1 via 10nth, the delta in the constructors will be 25points. However hamilton will have gained an extra point relative to Vertsstappen. By contrast, if they pit Perez for fastest lap, Hamilton only takes 25points, whilst Perez takes none for fastest lap. Thus the delta in constructors remains the same. That being said: hamilton has now scored less points relative to Verstappen, which is important for the drivers. The only one who looses out is Perez as he doesnt gain points. Constructors wise; Merc gaining 26 and RB gaining 1 is the same as 25 and 0.

I think Checo would have been much much closer but he would not have challenged for P2. Also, he was a massive reason that Max won the race if you only factor in the start, any other car would have passed max there and Checo let him go ahead rather than hold him up. Also, Checo's quali was amazing and i think he could have locked out the front row if not for that bit of rain at the end

it also looks better for Max if they only win Drivers because it rightfully tells the story that Max is driving the car above his weightclass. winning the championship when its not the best car, against the most dominant team ever. Thats a cool inference.

Alonso's defence against Kimi was fine. He had the inside (the high ground) and was slightly ahead, so it was his corner. Kimi was able to carry more speed around the corner by going off track, and overtook illegally. Obviously, Alonso's first overtake of Gio and Gio's second defence against Alonso were also illegal. If you have the inside and are side by side or ahead it is your corner. Lando should not have been given a penalty in Austria because of this.

Although it wasn’t off track. I’m surprised there’s not more talk of how max squeezed Lewis so dangerously into the pit exit at the start. Lewis got the better jump but Max pushed almost just aimed for his car rather than closing a gap. His steering angle on the grid is really mental every race. While I think he’s brilliant, I do think the way he launches at an angle is dangerous and also meaning he’s no properly in his box

Yep. Usually I’m watching quali’s and GP’s that start at 2am, 3am, or 4am so if you count the driver parades and post race stuff, I’ve become truly nocturnal all F1 season. So yeah, it was pretty hard to suddenly adjust back to “normal” time with COTA quali at 11am and the race at 9am!! That’s when I’m usually sleeping so I struggled for that one. (I woke up 45 mins late 😭) Japan was supposed to be the BEST time to watch for us in Hawaii and I thought maybe I’d be able to watch it with someone for once. That didn’t happen.. but at least a race in Istanbul is 2am-4am, which is what I’m used to but I watch it alone. In bed. And try to stay awake for the post race interviews but half the time I pass out as soon as it’s over. (I can’t sleep knowing a race is in progress)

Leave Mick alone he was too far ahead in Sector 2 and then had to wait until near the end of S3 to move out of the way. You're making it something bigger than it was. Hamilton wasn't overtaking Verstappen even with DRS. Bottas needed like 15 laps to overtake Sainz. It wasn't happening.

I agree with Tommy. I think from long term return the $ will be with who the driver winner is. Both these teams have tons of $ and there is a cost cap now. Mercedes is less willing to risk the constructors, but if it's one or the other in Abu Dahbi...I think both will take Drivers this year.

When Max is asked about "don't you feel the pressure" or "aren't you nervous when Lewis is approaching" he always replies with "no, that would not help me at all, it would not change the outcome, so I just do my best and if it is good enough I win the race". It seems he is not under the "but it is about the championship!" pressure at all, either he just is keeping up that appearance or he really has learned that over all the years and embedded it so deep that he really believes in it.

I think he has been like that all through his junior career. He is very quitessentially Dutch although born in Belgium. He even has the Dutch Limburg accent whereas his mother has a beautiful Flemish accent. I think Max gets in the zone and no longer thinks about anything but driving until he reaches the finish.
