As for why Bill Murray inducted George The Animal Steele, the two had acted together in Tim Burton's biographical comedy Ed Wood the year before. They wound up becoming friends. Murray couldn't attend the ceremony in person because he was filming the comedy Larger Than Life, in which his character inherits an elephant from his dead father.

Shawn had just turned babyface. It would have been the wrong move to put him in the ring with the Undertaker in June of 1995. The idea after WM 11 was to gain sympathy for Shawn.....so once he returns from injury fans would full on cheer him and accept him as a true baby face. You would risk Shawn getting booed TOO EARLY into his baby face run (as fans are still getting used to cheering him). In 95, heel/babyface distinction was still relevant. Shawn's popularity was rising, so putting him in the ring with Undertaker (at that specific point in time) I believe would have caused half the crowd or maybe MORE (besides women) to boo Shawn just as he's starting to gain traction as a bonafide baby face.. Nobody was going to boo Undertaker. Smart move to keep those 2 apart at the time imo.

@@WCWThunderRosa Just my opinion, but Shawn/Undertaker 1st time 1on1 at Ground Zero 97 didn't have a special feel to it.........for me partly because of the small venue and the fact that I felt their first time ever meeting could have been done at one of the (BIG 4) events........King of the Ring at least.

King Mabel was a disaster, I wish they would have had savio vs taker because Taker actually has a history of having really good matches with him, especially in the days when savio was basically his old TNT ninja gimmick but with a mask. After leaving WWF savio would go on to form IWA in his native Puerto Rico and discover talent like Judas Messiah aka Mil Muertes and other lesser known but still iconic to the island such has Shane the Glamour boy,Andy Anderson, Mikael Judas, he gave guys like Chet Jablonsky and Flash Flanagan a home and Yes! We were the first place Daniel Bryan went to when he got kicked out of the wwe for chocking a guy with his own tie.

Actually, the two Taker fans at ringside did play a part a little later in the whole build to the casket match with Kama at Summerslam. During a match, the guy laid a funeral wreath at ringside for Kama and Kama ripped it up. The dude went to pick up the pieces and Kama then went and beat the hell outta the dude while his lady watched in stunned horror. So in addition to getting what was left of the urn back from Kama, that attack added extra fuel to the fire for the Deadman

Mostly as a counter point to 8:00 As a life long wrestling fan, I have to give credit to the kid-friendly characters of the early 90's. I was born in 1984 and my family watched a lot of wrestling. In the early 90's, I was a kid and my Dad gave me our old 13in tv to put in my room. I only had a few channels, because I had to get them through an antenna. One of the channels showed wrestling and I always seemed to catch the days when WWF was on. I saw Doink, and Duke the Dumpster, Adam Bomb, and Jeff Jarret. I loved the characters, their styles, the flashy way everything was presented. I also loved Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Razor Roman, and Diesel. You had a great blend of cheesy characters and guys who could work their butts off. Long story short, I don't think the character side of the early 90's get enough credit, it was aimed at 9 year old children like me, (at the time) and made them life long wrestling fans. I got to age with wrestling, because if you remember, not long after this, the Attitude Era started right around the time a lot of our angsty teenage years did. Anyway, rant over. Hope you are well, and I feckin love the channel! Check out my hobby shop, I wont link it because I think me saying this is pandering enough.

In the subject of WM21, in hindsight, the most important aspect of the PPV was the crowning of Cena and Batista. At the time, though, what really mattered at least to me was Angle vs. HBK, one of the all-time great WM matches. And it also had the first MITB ladder match, and the start of a really good feud between Randy Orton and The Undertaker.

Backlund was one of my favourite wrestlers from this time. When I was 10 or so, seeing him ragdoll other guys, no costume gimmick, just a madman. Staring at his shaking hands reveling in the aftermath always sent real chills through me. Look, I was 10, all I knew about wrestling was a plush Hogan doll that me and my brothers used to pound on all the time before turning on each other. I was into all the bottom of the barrel guys. Duke the Dumpster? yup. IRS? Loved to hate him. Atom(Adam?) Bomb? I thought he could beat Taker. Doink? Down with it. Crush, Tatanka, BamBam and Luna, loved all of it Lucky for me, and all of us, Attitude was just around the corner.....
