Another awesome upload from the wrestling channel with the most jam on the planet! This was an awesome event and it was, in a lot of ways, the official start of the Attitude Era. Austin was being booked as being unstoppable, on his way to WM and the beginning of the Austin era and the last big name of the previous era, HBK becoming injured at this event. Which led to him leaving WWF after WM. Royal Rumble 98 did feel like an Attitude era PPV and within a few months the attitude era would be in full swing. If we compare the booking to this event to the booking of WCWs latest PPV, Starrcade 97. It really shows WWF were on a different level booking wise compared to WCW.

This really has nothing to do with anything, but I’m gonna share it with my fellow “Wrestling Bios” people: throughout the 90s, I went to several WWF events (was fortunate to have been in Pittsburgh for the 1998 King of the Ring. We thought Mick Foley had killed himself during that one, but I digress). There was always an opportunity to meet wrestlers at some point in the night. Many would get their fear on and then come into the corridors and take pics and give autographs. It was an awesome time. I met pretty much every Super Star in WWF. Without exception, they were all very kind and accommodating. The Rock even insulted my monkey ass (which was freakin awesome. Dude could improvise like a boss). The guy I wanted to mention here, is Vader. He was also a nice guy. We saw him before the event started but he has his ring fear on. It was really cool, until one got near him. He smelled like that gear has t been washed since the Nixon Administration. It was that foul stench of old moldy sweat, combined with a touch of total ass. He freakin reeked. I got a pic with him anyway, but I was fetching when I walked away. Could t imagine getting physical with the guy. Golddust was much tougher than many think.
