Brilliant video. Of course this is now 5 years old so X-Plane has changed a bit but this helps me with my understanding of navigation. and as a simulator only pilot I'm enjoying the learning exercise of trying to understand airport charts and do it right. I'll be trying to fly along. I notice is my recent versions of the Cessna 172 you also need to setting the heading bug for the ILS approach which I'm still finding a bit odd. Its a big gotcha is people fly along these days

great lesson on instrument approaches. very informative for those not already knowledgeable of these procedures, giving them a chance to practice. one suggestion, you might want to wait until your speed is in the white arch before adding flaps, as in xp 11, adding flapps at that speed can make you loose that flap. Lol. but thoroughly enjoyed the video.

Thanks a lot for the very helpful video.You are very clear indeed. Just a question. Both of the approaches had ILS too. I have a chart with VOR DME approach. When i pass the VOR which is up from the airport i have to fly a specific heading and at D9 turn right heading back to VOR again. But if i follow this route i will come back up from the airport and not lined up with the runway. For such a case at the end have i to do it VFR? My case is for aiport LGSM.

Excellent video, your production quality is extremely high as usual. If you have the time and motivation feel free to make a video about the autopilot. Preferably in the AFL 172, it seems to have become the plane of choice for GA X-planers. And let me recommend the Reality Xp GTN 570 just released for X-plane, it takes the simulation up another notch :-D

Great instruction. I simply love x-plane and find very useful for my PPL. Quick question for anyone. Is the map used at the beginning of the lesson a plug-in? It looks very different from what I see when I press ‘m’ while in the simulator. Thanks in advance!
@mikemiller16587 ай бұрын
Quick question: I would like to practice this route and was wondering how you got to your starting point? I noticed the map showed you starting south of the NDB and it didnt seem to show a path from where you started. Assume its situation but would like to know.....Thanks for all your videos!!!!
@jafferhussain158 жыл бұрын
hey osama nice video ! Apart from the wind correction which is required to keep the aircraft on-course ,the ADF needle (being quiet sensitive) starts to deflect more and in other words gets more "accurate" whn you get closer to the station as the signal strength increases. once over the station, it flips like a switch :D

Your tutorial videos are my favorite of all the others. Keep up the excellent work. You explain everything with just enough detail for us non-pilots to understand. Hopefully you are still monitoring comments because I have a question. The map you pull up around 3:37 - is that an older X-Plane default map, or is that an add-on? I have X-Plane 11 and the default map I pull up looks nothing like that. Never had X-Plane versions prior to 11 so I wouldn't know what older versions had. Thanks!

If you are referring to the 24 in light red, it is the Min Safe Altitude for the sector and it should be 2400 feet.

Hi Q8! Love this video, especially since its in the Airfoil Labs 172. Again, great video! How come that the 111.1 OEV ILS in LOWI is not aligned exactly with the runway?
@Q8Pilot8 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy, LOWI is a special case due to the mountains around it. It has a 4 degree slope which makes it one of the most challenging approaches for pilots.
@Noksi09217 жыл бұрын
There is no standard ILS approach into LOWI, in fact there is no ILS at all. Because the localizer station is offset from the runway and is the reason why you won't hit the runway if you follow the needles all the way. You can only use it for the heights, not for the direction.

oh ok you said it sorry, 😜misunderstood probably what you were saing when you discussed chart for lowi..
@vololibero83308 жыл бұрын
Os, MSA stands for "Minimum Safe Altitude" not max as you said!!! Also a general point to remember is that altitude is QNH. i.e. you set the QNH and then fly to a set altitude. All charts unless specifically stated quote elevations as altitude and therefore QNH. The pink numbers on the LOWI charts also indicate minimum safe altitudes for that sector (cake slice) they are "not" mountain elevations. They are the small black numbers next to black dots. This is the correct circle to land procedure for rwy 08 at LOWI using the BRENO 2A STAR from Italian airspace. With the correct speeds too! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGqbhnevg9Kai6M Watch the red and green needles for the NDB bearings. and also using RTT NDB for the hold. Height=above the ground surface. QFE Altitude=above sea level QNH Elevation=the height above sea level of a point on the surface e.g. an airport.
