X4 Foundations: Argon carrier gameplay against the xenon doom fleet

Hello everybody,
Time has come for me to test my carrier based argon fleet:
1 Colossus + 40 bolt Eclipse
1 Colossus + 40 bolt + torpedo Eclipse
vs the xenon doom fleet: 1 xenon I + multiple Ks
I've lost 4 torpedo Eclipse and 6 bolt Eclipse, but the xenon fleet has been eliminated, and fighters are much easier to replace that expensive destroyers an M ships.
I will, however, load a previous save, as the "let the universe burn" scenario is in effect, and the argon must deal with the xenon on their own, no "savior of the universe", this time.

Hello! I bought my first colossus and getting ready to use it... A couple of tips, if you don't mind: if I want to assign interceptors and torpedo bombers to the same carrier, should I form two distinct wings and assign them to different roles (intercept and attack maybe) or should I just assign them directly to the carrier in a single wing (maybe with defend command) and then pick them manually and give them direct orders when I need them to attack (I want to use them mainly to attack L/XL ships, like you do in your videos)... And should I keep them on "docked" or "launched" state? Thanks!

I would say get another Colossus for your interceptors, but that is just me. 😋 But I do organize my Raptors in the way you are describing, with bombers and interceptors on the same carrier. I would recommend to make two groups of fighters, bombers and interceptors. The interceptors work well on their own role "intercept", just select "launched" for them when enemy S/M ships are near and they will do their thing. As for the bombers, I would keep their status "docked", so they will launch and engage only with direct orders from you and engage targets you select for them. You can leave the bombers under "defend" the carrier, with "docked" status, and docked they will stay until you give them orders. Another thing about "docked" and "launched" status. When you travel with the carrier is best to keep all fighters on "docked", so all your interceptors would not launch to chase a xenon N, with you having to wait for them to land, until they find a new xenon N and so on. But, if you leave your carrier in a zone were enemy capitals may show up, is best to leave you bombers at least, with "launched" status, so they will engage a random xenon K (presuming that your bombers are under defend role, as I don't trust the bombard role, for that, atm) that would try to ruin your carrier's day.

I think the Teladi ships from X3 rebalanced mod are the best design :"all function over form" ,I wished they kept the same design in X4, also I like more the large turret Paranid firing effect and Split Plasma launchers were leally nice visually. For this Argon design I think they match's the style of old Argon from X3, Paranid ships too very similar but for Teladi ??yach.

hi! great video! I just started having a carrier and i'm wondering the build of your torpedo bombers, they have only torpedo launchers? what kind of torpedo they launch? also i'm interested to know if it's normal that your carrier only repair, if u need to re arm your missiles u're sending back to any ship builder right?

Thank you In the clip, my torpedo Eclipse have 2 bolt + 2 torpedo launchers mk2 and they fire heavy torpedoes. As for rearming the wing, the carriers and aux ships have too low capacity to perform that in a satisfactory manner. For example a carrier have the capacity to rearm 5 Eclipse and the aux ship just 10. So, I've found that is better to just send the entire wing to rearm at my own EQ of wharf (as the faction one would most likely not have enough mats).

@@innocentiuslacrim2290 If you don't have a wharf, rearming ammo requiring weapons could be a problem, so plasma is a better option, imo. Now, I don't know if you talk about putting plasma on the turrets of your Raptor, or putting plasma on the guns of fighters that you will keep on the Raptor. Either way, no shipyard/wharf = no rearming with torpedoes and missiles (or difficult to achieve).

Good to see these tests. Question : what if you give your "fighters" an Attack Multiple Ennemies order in the whole area, while you give your "torpedo bombers" a sequence Attack Capital 1 then Attack Capital 2 ... ...? I assume that would cause more losses, but would show a much bigger and more cinematic battle and require less micromanagement !

I wanted the interceptors to distract the capital's turrets, so I have less bomber losses. So I need direct atack orders for them so they focus on the target I choose, not just atacking targets at random. For fast S bombers like Chimeras, I don't need this interceptors screening and I can just let the interceptors do their thing, with little intervention from me.

what do you recommend for good constant money? Shipyards and stations I take it? mega station or many smaller. tons of traders and miners have only got me so far. I've made a few billion but most is in ships and stations. i need 100's of billions to really take out all xenon.

So how would you fit up your ships for your carrier groups, since Argon does not have very many ships to begin with for terms of having S room in hangers. well, I was wondering should I do like in the video? have 1 carrier set up for torpedo runs and another set up for anti fighter patrol, aka cas running? I am running Vanilla with new dlc , thinking of working on having a 3 carrier 1 dessy 2 aux Carrier Air Group to patrol my sectors with a couple of frigates in anti fighter config using lasers and flak. For my small craft, I was considering doing the same thing as the video. Eclipse or Quasar torpedo / anti fighter missile running boats, maybe 2 light / heavy missile boat in the anti fighter group. Torps in the attack group.

Since I "preach" what I practice, I do recommend 2 carriers, one for bombers and one for interceptors, as I usually go for at least 40 bombers and 40 interceptors in my fleets. Also, stay away from Quasars, just because: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ6Uon97eJ53ncU

@@volura Same. :D We already have the most powerfull in-game fleet in the form of the Raptor + Chimeras...If the Python battleship would have found its way in the game (aparently, it exists in the game files), I would have not bother with other races ships.
