Xaver Scharwenka - Symphony in C minor, Op. 60 (1882)

My favourite Scharwenka composition (and the one that brought him to my attention when I was a teenager) is his Piano Concerto No 1 in B flat minor in the brilliant RCA recording with Earl Wild and the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Erich Leinsdorf. This symphony, which of course is new to me, is a finely wrought piece of music, well orchestrated but unfortunately not very memorable. I am, though, forever grateful to Bartje who continues to upload so many neglected pieces of music, mostly from the Romantic era. May he long continue to do so.

Wunderschöne Interpretation dieser spätromantischen und fein komponierten Sinfonie mit gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen aller Instrumente. Der dritte Satz klingt echt schön und auch melodisch. Der intelligente und geniale Dirigent leitet das perfekt trainierte Orchester in verschiedenen Tempi und mit sorgfältig kontrollierter Dynamik. Wahrlich hörenswert!

Selten uebe ich Kritik ... aber nach ueber 40 Minuten des Zuhoerens moechte ich diesmal sagen: Bin gar nicht beeindruckt von dieser Komposition. Sie ist nicht mehr als eine Aneinanderreihung von "bedeutungslosen Elementen" zu denen das "bombastische Ende" dann ueberhaupt nicht passt. Als ob der Komponist selbst froh war, dass es endlich vorbei ist . . . ;o)

Manche Musik braucht mehr Liebe und Aufmerksamkeit als andere. Vor allem, wenn es beim ersten Hören nicht überzeugt. Diese Symphonie hat viele Mängel, aber sie ist immer noch ein intelligenter Ausdruck.

@@bartjebartmans Oja, du hast ganz bestimmt recht. Ich hatte mir einfach zu viel erwartet ... und musste (leider!) meiner Enttaeuschung darueber 'Luft' machen. Ich hoer's mir gewiss zu einem anderen Zeitpunkt nocheinmal an. Mit Aufmerksamkeit und Liebe werde ich auch beim zweitenmal zuhoeren ... und hoffentlich dann zu einem 'sanfteren' Kommentar gelangen . . .

Ich denke, die Werke von Xavers Bruder Philipp könnten Ihnen mehr gefallen. Da gibt es viel mehr Selbstbeobachtung und weniger Exhibitionismus.@@mmbmbmbmb
