I started playing Resident Evil 2 on hardcore difficulty and Quick Resume is a lifesaver, this feature genuinely makes the Xbox better than the PC version. Normally playing on hardcore means you're forced to finish the game in only a dozen play sessions because saving progress is limited by the number of ink ribbons you find in game, but on Xbox I can start up and stop playing as often as I like because Quick Resume doesn't end the play session when I turn off the console.

@@pagenie6124 it's true but what people didn't say there's a lot of games that got a next generation upgrade that you can play some next generation games on the seagate hard drive like Conan exiles and state of decay 2 witch is 2 games that got the next generation upgrade and plays perfect so there ovisly got other next generation games that will work when downloaded but I'd recommend getting a seagate game drive and 500g memory card for next gen games but it's great to know some can download and be played

@@pagenie6124 There’s still an advantage to be had from the external storage. And that is not being at the mercy of either your ISP speeds or Microsoft’s servers when putting them back on the Xbox. Just be sure you have the USB 3.1 connected between your SSD and your Xbox and your game will download in no time.

Loved gaming on the mini fridge since launch - whisper quiet, great 4k gaming out of the box, gamepass is very impressive value, quick resume is very convenient. Honestly I expected to spend more time on the ps5 this gen but Microsoft have really surprised me with this one. I would recommend grabbing a 4tb HDD to slap in the back for extra storage - for any non 'series' games - I picked one up for around £60

I must admit it took me a loooong time to take the plunge and get a series X as I really didn’t see it as a necessary upgrade. As it happens the performance and speed of the series x is a big big improvement over my XBox One. I used to have lots of slow loads, and issues switching between games, but the X has dispensed with all those issues and everything is slick and loads fast with no weird getting dumped back on the home page.

It’s great. Bought it for myself last Christmas (even though I wouldn’t consider myself a hardcore gamer). Whisper quiet and the quick resume/load times are a game changer for me. Even on my 4k HDR (non 120HZ) screen, games look awesome. Backwards compatibility is sweet and game pass…. Well game pass. It’s brilliant. All in all, not a purchase I regret. As you’ve highlighted, my only real annoyance is the interface…. It gets the job done but not the cleanest in my opinion!

had one for 7 or 8 months and honestly, the only feature that blew me away was the quick resume. It's paired with an LG C1 in my living room so it also has the GSYNC/Freesync compatibility too but honestly I'm kind of underwhelmed. Gamepass lacks the abundance of true AAA day-one releases that it promised and although there are some indie gems it does not warrant the subscription cost for me, I can understand that this will vary from person to person. I continue to play 95% of the time on my PC and await a truly great experience on the series x in the future

You will never have a next-gen experience on your Series X if you have a good PC, which is why I dont have an Xbox console All the 1st-party titles came to PC day 1 too Assuming you have the PC, Deathloop was better once patched, Plague Tale scales higher visually and higher fps Its the same with the PS5 but just longer, like Miles Morales, Spiderman, God of War 2018, Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone are all better on PC than the console. We can probably assume Returnal will follow the same pattern.

The series X is interesting and the Xbox brand in general to me now. It doesn’t have the same energy that the Xbox 360 era did and it saddens me. I love the 360 and the games that came out for it. It was a time like no other, it really is indescribable. The Xbox One and Series X have had the same vibe which is not bad but not magical as before and perhaps that’s just me getting older but I still can’t help but feel this way. Nonetheless, the series x is a great machine, I just hope some of that magic returns someday.

I agree! Most of the 360 era was before the current FOMO method of seasons/battle passes/etc devs use now. Online multiplayer on console was becoming popular and allowed for brand new experiences for most. There was a true feeling of that generation breaking new ground. It was the perfect storm that's hard to match, it's really just been improvements in visuals/framerate for the past 2 generations.

I'd highly recommend an Xbox One/PS4 as well if you don't have both, they're affordable & have huge libraries of used/cheap games. This is a really slow generation with most games still releasing on X1/PS4, definitely check what actual exclusives are available. We might also get new, cheaper S/slim models in a year or two, so it's always worth waiting.

i bought one a couple of weeks ago.. had no intention.. i have a ps5 already that gets around 1 or 2 hrs of use per week. but i toyed with the adding to the cart and whoa it did and was ready for pickup so i clicked buy now... since then i sub'd to game pass for 3 yrs at the gold price of less than $5 per month. and been having lots of fun.... prefer the controller over the ps5 and generally feelin' it more than the ps5. don't have all that much time for gaming these days but it has my attention.

Just switched from PS4 to the Series S, kinda miss the single-player exclusives that I didn't get a chance to play. But.. oh man did I upgrade. The Series S cost me just a bit more than my used PS4 back in the day and that GamePass along with the snappy load times just makes such a difference. Not to mention the number of friends on PC I can now play with because of the extended cross-platform support. The Series X and PS5 is definitely a powerhouse, but I would say get the Series S, because it's a solid bang for the buck.

Got my series X for Christmas and cannot be happier. Much like you, I love the speed at which everything loads, the graphics are amazing, and quick resume is an incredible feature. You can get from a complete shutdown to playing a game in around 20-30 seconds! I've replayed jedi fallen order in 60fps and I'm never going back to 30fps ever

This is my first video of yours and I think by and large it's quite a fair appraisal--I suppose the only two points I'd disagree on are the appearance (I think the console actually looks nice in the very discreet, uber-minimalist, industrial design you see in the Surface line of devices; then again, I noticed my console is actually a bit cleaning than yours, haha), and that I thought it was a bit of the shame you only briefly mentioned the B.C. program (namely, that you have several hundred games from the sixth and seventh console generations, along with the usual Xbox One library, that can all be played on Series X and even supported by physical media). That aside, I think it was a thoughtful take overall.

Yeah I’ve heard a few people say they didn’t like Scorn , as for me though , I liked it , I’ve played it all the way through twice , hoping I missed some things , hidden things , but I couldn’t find anything I had missed , I was hoping I could go through a different hallway but I always ended up in the same place by the end. Now if only they'd design a Kinect system for this xbox. My kids love games like Just Dance, Kinectimals and Kinect Sports all on the 360 and I'll never get rid of it for that reason. It can be fun to be interactive with your game especially shooters when you motioned to reload or put a custom rifle together. Really the only reason I see to upgrade even still is the drive in my xbox one is so bloddy loud I cant use my bluray movies, other than that I'll probably be playing backwards compatible games on it.

Had one for 2 months end of 2021 before selling it on. Coming from an Xbox one x, the upgrade was minimal, faster load times and frame rate are nice, but essential? There were almost no games that didn’t run on the one x, and the design of the console meant it didn’t fit under my living room TV, The one x looks so much better! I enjoy all console spend most of my time on Ps5 which is a hideous console but at least fits under the TV. Once there are some series exclusive games I’ll jump back in but if you own a one series console and aren’t hardcore there’s little point to upgrade

I bought a series S when the X was unobtanium. I put that at my children's house and I have had an X since spring 2023. It is superior to the S in so many ways. I like that my gamepass subscription works on both in separate locations. I was also able to play 8 out of 13 Xbox 360 discs we still have.

Great review, but for the record, you can turn on background updates which will update games and apps, even in energy saving mode. Can't remember the last time I turned the console on and had to wait for updates.

It's my first dedicated Xbox and has largely dominated my playtime (even with a capable PC available, also an honestly anemic PS5, and a still regularly used Switch), almost entirely because of Quick Resume.

Still prefer my PS5. Mainly because both backwards compatible (Xbox backwards compatibility still best where u can put Xbox discs in) but all my fav PS4 games I play on PS5 coz I still have or on my PS plus subscription. Main problem for me is still the games. There is no good exclusive outside of Halo (wasn’t interested in psyconaughts) for xbox. Spider-Man , GT 7, returnal, ratchet and llano, horizon, god of war , Demon Souls - there are some others but mainly PS4 titles but I feel nothing stands out on Xbox unfortunately. Hopefully like you say this changes for 2023 and beyond with their acquisitions.

The one thing MS really needs to master is controller design. The PS4 controller is probably the best ergonomic controller ever designed, until the Dualsense arrived that is. Otherwise the MS architecture is brilliant.

Diehard PlayStation fan here since PS1. Just got my first Xbox in preparation for Starfield. It absolutely blows my mind how they are still using AA batteries for the controller packaged with the system. Really makes you wonder. Also, how HDR is not implemented on the home screen.

In my country, the difference in price between the two is also significant. X Box Series X is in fact a better value proposition due to superior hardware specs, upcoming exclusives by Bethesda, and lower price. The difference in price is due to scalpers making bucks with PS5 which is more in demand due to the glory days of the PS4.

Great video, Chris. Still enjoying my Series X, especially its whisper quiet operation which cannot be overestimated. You are spot on about Game Pass but I've actually found myself buying a couple of titles (at a discount) after playing on there for the DLC. Most recently Fenyx Rising. So it's a win win for gamers and publishers. The only downside has been that there's no optical out for audio and there's a tiny audio delay with Dolby audio formats going from my LG C1 to my Yamaha soundbar (TV speakers are find though). The delay has been reported practically since launch but they don't seem to even acknowledge it. Just waiting on those exclusive single-player adventures like Fable, Hellblade 2 (and hopefully Everwild). New subscriber!

Had a PS5 since launch and have loved it and will continue to do so BUT I've bought a Series X (waiting for it to be delivered today actually, come on Amazon 😁) in anticipation of Starfield. I have a PC too but I think I'd get better performance from the X and it's cheaper than upgrading to an RX 6800 XT and new PSU (which would be the next logical upgrade route for me) so I'm becoming an Xbox fan boy too lol. I also CANNOT wait for Starfield and have bought the limited edition controller and headset too 😀

Sony uses 3 different manufacturers for their fans so some will be louder than others. Best thing is to remove the fan to clean out any dust.

@OP Do you have it on vertical position with the included stand? if yes then try putting it in horizontal position, if the noise goes away then it's the poorly designed+manufactured free stand. That thing got my BD drive, now it can't read disc anymore. Partly my fault as i basically ignored temp too hot warnings(thought switching on the a/c was enough) My theory is, the cheap stand when used in vertical pretty much blocks the base PS5's airflow making hot air trapped in the BD drive area, cooking it's component slowly 😅. Either put your PS5 in horizontal position, or buy a 3rd-party stand that at the least; elevates the base a bit while having openings on both sides for hot air to flow out. That worked for me, i just wish i did it earlier and save my BD drive, i hope maybe my comment/suggestion can save yours🙂. Edit: forgot to say I live in a hot+humid country, so that could also add to the cause of my BD drive malfunction.

i love my series x and the simple design fits so well with the rest of my harware components. Most people would never even know what it is. I skipped last gen so there's loads of game for me to play and most have been free or very inexpensive with gamepass ultimate. The system is super quiet, though i wish the controller were less noisey. playing while others are sleeping beomes difficult. all in all its a major win, and with some good exclusives, it will start to become a juggernaught. I also wish the took a bit more risls with the controller though its pretty much perfect as it is with no gimmicks..
