*I forgot to mention my previous clutch (Spec Stage 3+) started to slip at high power levels with only 5k miles on it.* I was really disappointed because I thought the Spec clutch would handle the power, but it was only rated for 671 tq. This new XClutch is rated for double that, so I don't think I'll have an issue!

Did you do anything to the gearbox in terms of durability? I got just 645 Nm of torque on MHD 2+ and the g-box oil after around 1500 miles was black... No shifting problems or anything but it worries me. I got a single mass flywheel with twin disc clutch and I fixed the idle rev g-box rattle by increasing the revs and putting a mix of Redline 75W140 and D4 ATF but I get a rattle when accelerating on high gears at below 3000 rpm.

No, I just changed the fluid with the Royal Purple stuff. I'm not sure of any upgrades for these transmissions. I have the poly trans mounts and RTD shifter, but that isn't necessarily a durability upgrade.

I’m in the same boat -stage 3+ is now slipping :( the reason you think that is because I was told by Soec today that their ratings of torque are at the flywheel... not the wheel.

That noise is just how twin disc set ups sound from my experience not the throw out bearing. When the clutch is depressed and the discs and plate in between them aren't clamped together anymore and they rattle around causing that noise. Nothing you can do about it unfortunately. When you wanna start making big power everything gets louder, not just the engine lol
@neillewis800
@neillewis800 5 жыл бұрын
That chatter sound isn't the throw out bearing. It's the centre plate between the clutch discs rattling when you take the pressure off the package. It rattles on the stands that hold it in place and that the pressure plate bolts to.

Yeah, I meant that the metallic whirring noise was from the metal throwout bearing.

I put this same Xclutch setup in my subaru after getting about 60k miles out of my ACT, It lasted long enough considering I drive my car, and did more than a few launches. Honestly I'm amazed at how streetable this dual disk metallic/ceramic ..Rev matching and shifting gears is so smooth and easy.Even sprung, I was prepared to swap out the ceramic disks to organic if worst to worst. It doesn't shudder/skip when engaging much more than the ACT, plus If I have time to just slowly let off the clutch, it engages and moves with no throttle..I try NOT to slip it, but when its shuddering, its "slipping" technically..On a decent incline its tricky, but I only have 700 miles on it, mostly back roads and hwy so it needs more time as its getting pretty easy to drive now..Bottom line, they make great quality products..Just don't expect ceramic to last as long being a DD..Its really not meant to slip

Hi Jake, Great video and thanks for putting this together to give people some further understanding of how the kits are to drive. We are the parent company of XClutch and just thought we would let you know that the metallic sound that you can hear when the clutch is pressed is actually the intermediate plate moving around rather than the throw out bearing . This is perfectly normal for this style of twin plate as the intermediate plate is floating, so no need to worry about that. Thanks again and if you have any questions about the clutch, feel free to get in contact (sales@xclutchusa.com).
@jake_spence
@jake_spence 5 жыл бұрын
Oh, interesting! I was under the assumption it was the throwout bearing after reading posts from "MartyMil" on the forums. So a stock OEM throwout bearing will not solve the metallic whirring noise? I will have to update some of my posts about the clutch. Either way, I am happy with the clutch and the quality exceeded my expectations!
@australianclutchservices7503
@australianclutchservices7503 5 жыл бұрын
@@jake_spence Hi Jake, No that noise is just the intermediate plate so the throw out bearing will not change this. We would not recommend changing the bearing to anything other than the one that came in the kit. Great to hear you are happy with the clutch and we look forward to following your build. Thanks

Great video Jake! Your new clutch is definitely more noisy than the one I'm running. I went with organic discs but stronger Sasch pressure plate. I can pull off gently if I have to, but when I just dump it, wheels just spin or engine stops! I did increase idle revs to 850RPM and that cured 90% of chatter when stationary. I daily my car and today I spent 4h in slow traffic in London. My left leg feels a bit worn out ;) Twice the clutch pressure but my organic plates will hold 1400Nm so it's worth it! PS. I've done over 5000 miles on mine already and no problems and no slipping. PS.

I have the twin disc, organic. I can say that it's very rough starting your car. I went around the neighborhood to practice a few times, and it wasn't enough. current my 335i is a rocking Bronko. Yes, it's a driver skill issue, but at the same time, I've only had manual cars for over 20 years. That's my entire driving life. I was told, "twin disc means less heavy pedal while keeping grip & driveability." I can't imagine anything less dailyable than this product that I've experienced using other than a stage three in a stage 3 Audi TT. I would say that twin disk = some serious racing stuff that likely you'll have a high learning curve to learn. I would akin it to using the brake pedal with your left foot, while it's floating in the air... Anyhow, I'll keep slipping this ting and hope it easy off on the instant grip.

Personally just finshed installing one on my rb25 240sx a couple hours ago. i had an os giken before than had engagement at the very bottom. This clutch has it at the very top of pedal travel for me. While I only have a couple miles on it as of tonight, I can say the only reason it feels like its more grabby/instant engagement is because i have no muscle memory with it engaging at the top. I think once i adjust my pedal and put a stop in then it'll be just as dailyable as the OS Giken was and that one was a single disk meant for only 350ish ftlbs holding power. Just to give you an idea of my experience, I drive all kinds of manual cars working as a tech and mine has always been the easiest while having a much heavier clutch all because i had that muscle memory on my car and not other one off cars.

Bro, this was my biggest concern when I had my stage 1 Xclutch organic, installed. I was losing my mind think the shit ws installed incorrectly or if i had already broken it 😢. But after reading and doing more research, everyone is saying the same thing, including Xclutch representatives. I press in the clutch pedal and I can hear the engagement, in slow accelerations i can also hear shattering or noises coming from inside the clutch. I pray this is correct and nothing wrong, or i am fucked.

That doesn't seem right, if you have this same clutch. I have not had any slipping issues and I've been very hard on it.
