以前海外華人都稱呼中國為 “唐山”,華人就 “唐人/唐山人” (所以 Chinatown 才叫 “唐人街”)。唐人,讀唐書,寫唐字,講唐話。 也有 唐茶 & 西茶 之分。唐茶就是一般的普洱,鐵觀音之類的茶。西茶是指奶茶,咖啡之類的。

Lian Hua is Lotus in Mandarian. Tu Kau (pig dog) for boys. Malaysian Chinese = T’ng Lang (same word with Cantonese) Malay = Huan Nah Malaysian Indian = Kelingah Foreigner (European/Caucasian) = Ang Moh (red hair) Foreigner (Non-Caucasian) = Gua Kok Lang Hope this clarifies a bit. For 茶雪 and 雪茶, KL is the one that's inconsistent with how they name their drinks. For other cold drinks, they use 冰 instead of 雪 so for example, it's Teh 冰, Milo 冰, Cham 冰 but it's only 雪 when it comes to 雪茶 but this time around they put the "ice" in front of the drink. Why aren't their other drink 冰Milo,冰Teh or 冰Cham? No idea. On the other hand, Ipoh is consistent with how they call their cold drinks. It's simply [drink name] + 雪. So it's 茶雪,milo雪,teh雪 and so on.

Hongkong Cantonese call Indians as Molo Cha. Like Keling was not a derogatory term. One must remember people in those days are uneducated and have no sense of political states. Molo comes from Kristang and Macao Portuguese Patois as Moru which means Indians. As Sikh policeman are usually used in HK thus they are called Molo Cha. As for Tong San and Tong Yan. Before the revolution of 1911, Southern Chinese has no concept of nationalism based on 中國 or 中華. Most common people refer to their country as Tong San and the people as Tong Yan.

The "fu" sounds like how you would say "bitter" in Cantonese and I understand that it means the capital, hence Cantonese is the dialect of the people in Canton to differentiate between the rural dialects like Sunning, Toisan etc and also dialects like Teochew and Hakka that are also parts of Kwong Zhou or Kwong Tung.

Hi Athena, FYI, "ke-ling" from Wiki is (pronounced [kəliŋ]) or Kling is an originally neutral (and now implied immigrant/raciss status) but now considered derogatory term used in parts of Southeast Asia to denote a person originating from the Indian subcontinent. As far as I understand in Kuala Lumpur, "Teh C" is Tea with "Fresh Milk" with some sugar automatically added, as opposed to no Sugar in Penang as commented by the KL lady. "Teh" alone (as suggested by the Ipoh lady) is Tea with "Condensed Milk". The same logic goes with "Kopi C" and "Kopi".

Idk if your place uses fresh milk, usually what I see they use in Teh C is evaporated milk (susu sejat) that also comes in cans like condensed milk (susu pekat).
@anonnymous4864
@anonnymous4864 Жыл бұрын
@@Ryou6 It's still basically fresh milk in cans probably for covenience. Condensed milk in cans is much thicker and comes sweetened.

@@anonnymous4864 if it's canned it's not fresh. Do you call canned sardine as fresh fish too? The nutritional value of evaporated milk is less than fresh milk.
@anonnymous4864

@@Ryou6That's a bit too far comparing it to canned fish. Evaporated milk is slightly thicker than fresh milk but it tastes exactly like fresh milk. If diluted to the same concentration as fresh milk, you can't tell the difference between the two. Besides coffee shops do use either of them.

Two of the most common brands of evaporated milk are "Ideal" and "Carnation". I think how "C" or "si" came to be the term for evaporated milk is it is short for Carnation. If I want teh tarik (pulled tea) with milk but no sugar, then I would say "teh tarik si kosong" in KL. (kosong translated as empty means no sugar). the default teh tarik means pulled tea with sweetened condensed milk. The default here is with sugar.
