The thing is that those reviewers all want the feature in their phones, but not on a Sony phone, rather to a Samsung or Apple phone instead. Read my comment about it though.. it's not what Juan describe it as. Also the "charging over night feature" does almost nothing. Because it doesn't charge the phone any slower than usual, which most tech reviewers claim, and you can only choose 90 % as the lower limit. So a slight improvement I guess, but only slight. Coz you have to remember that if you forget to unplug the charging cable when the by you pre-set timer reaches zero, i.e. the time you set it to turn of this feature, your phone will start charging again and soon reach those 100 %. So in short, SONY fucked this potentially really great feature up big time!! Sorry to break it to you, but I just don't want yet another person to be as disappointed as I was when I discovered this..😔 I like the phone otherwise a lot. I do have one or two more grapes with it thus far. But I haven't got to use it properly yet, so can't say to much about all the other stuff. In general, Sony has always acted for the protection of the battery. Stamina mode since 2013 (they were one of the first to offer a 2 day charge life), AI learning of your battery usage (only shows results after longer usage), Adaptive charging (the last 10% are charged right before you unplug it) or normal chargers eventhough quick charging was a feature (because quick chargers damage the battery life). That's why bigger batteries were never a thing in the past for Sony. This HS is only a continuity and could prove revolutionary for people who want to be at max usage all the time. Plug in your powerbank with a long cable (from your pocket or backpack) and BAM, enjoy, but preserve your battery. Instead of unloading it and quickcharging it, just keep it stable with less damage tonthe battery. I didn't realize that the "Transparent CPU monitor" wasn't properly working with SOC's newer than a SD820/821. Though, it still has accurate and live CPU temperature monitoring with SOC's like the SD845 and newer. It also can monitor each individual CPU's temp in a cluster. On another note, the android game MadOut2 brings the Adreno 650 to it's knees. It also has a in-game FPS counter. I had to use x86 Android and a GTX 1050ti which has about 2.5TFLOPS of FP32 compute, just to max this game out. I like trying to find games that have built in frame rate monitors. Though, its not as easy as you would think. So i use a modded GLTools to check framerates. Yes, it's still a supported application and works great with Snapdragon based SOC's. I know "World War Heroes" has a fps counter and can be a task to keep frame rates at or above 60fps, with Ultra settings. My newly modded LG V40 Unlocked i just bought for $250 has its thermal.conf.file modified so the Adreno 630 at 710MHz doesn't thermally throttle. So, none of that famous LG hitch step"N" or Ruben Studda, (in games). Thanks to the guys and a little bit of work done by me over at XDA. That's what it takes to run World War Heroes at 60fps with Ultra or maxed out settings. Some phones with a SD855/+ and Adreno 640 has issues holding 60fps in that game. The LG V40's Adreno 630 is clocked at 710MHz and has 512 ALU's at about 780 GFLOPS peak. Which i can get sustainable with a little thermal file modifications. The Adreno 640 in the SD855 has 50% more ALU's (768 ALU's) but, its not 50% faster. Its GPU is only running at 580MHz but, downclocks even lower after thermals hold it back. The Adreno 640 is rated at about 900 GFLOPS peak. The SD855+'s Adreno 640 is clocked at 675MHz and has over a TFLOP of compute. (1,037GFLOPS at peak). That's just crazy to me that a smartphone can have a Teraflop of (FP32) compute. Though, the Adreno 650 has another 256 ALU's on top of that giving the Adreno 650 in the SD865 1,024 ALU's and about 1200+ GFLOPS of compute, depending on the GPU's clock frequency. Says alot about software and how it can change the phones whole experience. Also frequency scales a lot more than compute units, ALU's, graphics cores, what ever they want to call it.

But it doesn't use the charger as the phone's main power source in exchange for the battery though. The XZ still uses its battery even while being charged, unlike this one.

Hi Juan, I like you videos a lot, because you speak in a very technical manner going through those aspects of a mobile which actually makes sense. It would be good if you could do an audio test, or comparison with the V60 since this has got an headphone jack, for the audiophiles you know.

This is great, I used to have this feature on my samsung laptop when it stopped charging over 80 percent battery. Long story short, the battery lasts me 4 years and I noticed very little battery degradation.

this is huge for me because im a cripple and use my phone in bed for hours with the power cable plugged in so it doesn't randomly die mid video or game.... probably why my current pixel xl battery is literally expanding, pushing the touch screen out if the phone casing on the right side. GRANTED ice gad this pixel xl since its launch, so not a bad lifetime of 4 years.... i was gonna get the xperia 1 mark 2 anyway cuz "3.5mm headphone plus oled 4k hdr" and now, added bonus!!!! bypass battery charge when in use. epic win for me

Fast charging is cool but features likes these are the ones that can swing buyers attention back to quality over quantity. I think Sony should double down on this philosophy. And this is not even this phones final form as Xperia Pro is coming later this year.

Actually Oneplus made it even better - their fast charge technology allows to fastcharge while gaming, without overheating the battery. It has some drawbacks: it's not available on power banks and it requires original cable and charger. But it is quite impressive ) Actually it was rumored, that Oneplus actually have many separate cells in one battery, so they can continue charging one cell while other is in use. As for mark 2 - it is capable of fast charging from laptop PD chargers and power banks, so no complaints. And also - I'm waiting for more details on sony, thx for the video.

Internet in my area is terrible with no signs of change in sight for the foreseeable future so I'm stuck using att lte combined with mobile Hotspot and a vpn (the VPN seems to prevent data throttling most of the time) for nearly everything. Well, Sony's the first to implement this on a smartphone, and it's a really useful thing since phone batteries are easily some of the most abused part of a phone these days, especially with the rise of higher wattage chargers.

Sony needs to spend more on marketing (since this seems to be their comeback & they're in the right track), otherwise it'll get lost just like every other phone from them. Kinda surprised that gaming phones weren't the ones to bring this feature first (maybe they have but idk of any)

Phones are as powerful as laptops change my mind. Every phone should have this feature. Looking at you samsung with your battery puffing issues and note 7 calamity. The only argument against this is planned obsalecence which is both unethical and an Apple move. My laptop can do this why cant my phone? Oh, that's right you need me to buy a new one next year. How silly of me. My next phone will be a Sony or an LG. RIP other brands and your short sited money grubbing business practices. Rant over Thanks Juan this was really cool!
@troy55684 жыл бұрын
The only thing we need to do now is boycott their products and switch to a sensible 2020 flagship phone, which is this phone and the LG V60. Imagine the whole world suddenly switching brands from the common Samsung and Apple to the old but gold legends like Sony and LG. They just need to suffer from huge loss of profit and customers to get back to their senses and do something practical and useful with their phones once again.

Instead of introducing fast (40w+) charging and bigger batteries Sony is always doing software optimisations and cutting down features like themes and icons to compensate for the poor to average battery life of their flagships.

1:25 *WARNING, WARNING!!* this is simply not true.. Sorry everyone including *JUAN*, but this, you need to correct and fast, before more people think that this is the case. I don't know how this feature was implemented on the first Xperia 1, but this time Sony definitely flunked it big time! And I can't for my life understand how the hell they manged to do it. I mean, shouldn't the first thought while designing a feature like this be something like.. hmmm maybe an ON/OFF switch!?!? That can be on even if the phone's display is off?? Yeah that would help a ton if you're using your phone as hotspot for your laptop, but no.. Sony skipped that, and to make the hotspot thing work you have to have the display on all the time, and the only app I found thus far apart from games, that don't turn off the display after awhile is the "clock app" on android, i.e. if you swipe over to the stopwatch portion of it and start it. This is so ridiculously bad and such a failure that I'm just lost for words. And it doesn't stop there I'm afraid.. As I said in the beginning, it's not true that you can add any app. And no it ain't no unknown suspicious apps we're talking here.. Oh no! It's facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and most importantly, KZbin!!! Oh but don't forget, no browser can be added too! Except for one.. and I'm not sure if that is because I selected it as the default browser for my phone or if it is because I just happen to pick duckduckgo. But yeah, the only way of using the H.S mode on YT is through duckduckgo right now. And it's fine but also a bit buggy. So yeah, Sony focked this one up majorly. But you can still use it. You just got to remember that as soon as your display turns of, the H.S. mode is also going to turn off, and so your phone will start charging again.

I'm sorry I'm dumb but, does this mean that if I plug in the charging cable while I game on the phone, it will be better for the battery (and phone as a whole) because the temperature will stay cool? but my phone battery percentage won't go up because it won't be necessarily charging.. It would just be like for e.g 85% all the way?
@SomeGadgetGuy4 жыл бұрын
You got it. By NOT charging the battery, you aren't adding additional heat, and you're not wasting a charge cycle. Using a phone while charging it is a double whammy on that battery.
