FYI: When importing your lbdev file it complains about a library on the Z: drive. I unklinked that. Then things may have changed in the meantime as my S1 has the latest FW and when I move the laser as you've shown, there's a 50s timeout from which I have to say "STOP" to get out off. Anyways, thanks for your video! Been a great help.

No, that is just my material library for it. Create you own on your machine and link it. Not sure what is up with the timeout, never seen that

@@TheClackShack I've noticed later that this timeout is also after switch to the original profile etc. even after reboot/restart of LB. Maybe a issue with the new FW.

The focus macro will drop right where the laser module is, rather than where the red cross is (which it does in XCS). For small items this can lead to missing the material, and on the honeycomb it can mess with the probe. I added some gcode to the macro to move it to the red cross position (using the offset value from the device settings): G0 X-21.5

I just put the pin over the material in lightburn but yes, that can happen.

Thanks a lot for the video. I can't seem to get lightburn to run my S1 properly though. Whenever I run a fill the machine slows down during the last 5 lines of the project and over burns my project. Really odd, XCS everything works fine. Any ideas?

sounds like you have constant power mode on in that layer. It is a switch right under the power setting.

Great video, Thanks! Just received my XTool S1 40w Laser. In Lightburn the only way I can move the Laser with the Move arrows, Auto Focus, or Frame is if I have the lid closed. It is a real pain to have to open and close the lid when Framing and re-positioning the wood. When I use the S1 in Xtools Propriety XTool Creative Space software I can perform these tasks with the lid open. Is there a setting or something in Lightburn that will enable me to perform the above tasks with the lid open? Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't looked into it but I do know that they are still working on lightburn compatibility. I have let them know about the issue with air assist and they are working on a fix. I noticed the same in lightburn with mine. I will pass it on to xTool.

I recently purchased the xtool s1 20 W and want to use lightburn . I installed it and made appropriate modifications per your video. In the video you made a comment that lightburn does 90% of the functions when you installed it on your s1 40 W. I followed all the instructions and installed the file as instructed. I am able to cut, engrave, score but I cannot use the up, down, left, right arrows. It does not pause and start again. I cannot use the move feature to move the module and when I draw a square in lightroom it cuts a triangle. I have not tried anything else yet. I saw on the forum's that others have had the same problem and said it was a software issue. I am wondering if there are other settings that I need to set differently and should I install the beta version instead of the previous version. I would appreciate any suggestions so I can get 90% of the features to work. I would be happy with that. Thank you

Lightburn is moving to add functionality to the S1 in lightburn, I have been in contact with Lightburn and they are working on a new version with even more support. I will be doing some testing soon to see what all they are adding.

Thank you for the file and great video. I struggled to cut anything before your video. I think I didn’t understand the autofocus (as well as home clearing it) before watching your video. Now I am just having an issue with the test patterns coming out as triangles. Is this a firmware problem?

I hope you will be able to answer my question. I just downloaded Lightburn and bought the activation key. Following the prompts to where it is supposed to find my laser which is Xtool S1 20W. So far, it's been about 10 minutes, and it has not shown my devise. The version is 1.4.15. What do I do next? Is there another step I missed. I only have one laser.

Unfortunately, mine isn't sensing the right COM port and it only gives me Coms 3, 4 and 5 as selections, which are all 3 showing already in use. I set up my S1 with lightburn exactly as your, so ty. Your video is the best S1 and lightburn combo I've seen so far. I did want to ask something. I seem to get a strange unlevel cut on straight level horizontal cuts as the laser moves to the right. Any thoughts?

Make sure the honeycomb is siting flat. I am not sure I understand your description of the issue.

for example. if i have a perfectly straight and horizontal line/cut it will slowly raise above the initial perfect level that shows in lightburn.@@TheClackShack

@@dbnewmanmedia377 if it is not making straight lines, check to be sure it isn’t mechanical. Something could be catching somewhere. Have you tested in XCS to see if the issue is in the software? If it has same issue in both, it’s mechanical

Thanks for the video! My company just ordered a 40W S1 for engraving on plastic. We would need an easy way to print multiple serial numbers at once from a text file, but that doesn't seem to be an option in Xtool software so...I guess I need to figure out the "variable text" function in Lightburn. Hi Dave, Great article on using Lightburn with the S1. I was wondering 2 things because of the Z axis. First you could have different Z heights for different layers which means you could do curved surfaces. It would be mostly a pain but if you were doing a batch of objects with the same curve the different layer Z heights could be worth the effort. Second, `often I want a “thick” line around a burning as a border. Right now I do and offset and fill. I was wondering if changing the Z height to de-focus could produce a wider burn. It would be curious to know how much out of focus would result in what width of a line and what speed/ power change would go with that? Might be a nice demo.

You would have to defocus quit a bit to make the line thicker but it is possible. As far as curved objects, I would just launch XCS for that job.

If you wanna use WiFi, you must run XCS. Lightburn doesn’t support the WiFi connection. You connect XCS to the computer using USB and then you can adjust the WiFi settings in XCS.

Hey Dave, I downloaded and picked my device, imported and when I pick the new S1 entry it tells me it failed to load. any help with why that is? I'm watching your video and making the adjustments manually (thanks for that btw)library file shows up as Atzer V35 even though the downloaded file is named as you show. My lighturn version is 1.4.05. I also used my raspberry pi 3b to make my S1 40W usable via wireless (virtualhere software to do it) It's working but no power on my test. I set the power to 100 and same thing. I am pretty sure that was due to the z being off.

The S1 comes with XCS, a lot of people want to be able to use lightburn with it because it has lots of good tools.

Thanks for the walkthrough. One question I have after following along: my Lightburn cut params (specifically the power) seems to be way off compared to the settings in XCS. For example, a simple engraving I did at 30% power in XCS required 3 (yes, three) %. Else, it would burn all the way through. It seems to be some scaling or unit that is way off. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Use the navigation button to move around the workspace in lightburn. The icon looks like a map pin.

Look at the left-hand side of the screen. In the "TOOL" menu for the Upside down, Tear drop shape, between the "Text" tool and "shape measurement" tool. (I couldn't figure out how to attach a screenshot) Hope that helps if you are still looking.

Every time I import the S1 file to Lightburn that you provided in the link, Lightburn says "the library failed to load (Z:LIBRARIES/Atzer V35.clb). However, when I hit ok, the machine moves around a bit and then the console tab says homing and then ok. All of your settings appear to be there. Am I good to go? Do you have any recommendations for full Lightburn tutorials for the S1?

That is the settings library trying to load. Bottom right, save your own settings library for the S1. I haven’t built mine out yet and it is using my V35 library

It worked for me, make sure to use the XTool config file when adding to lightburn I would suggest re running the install while watching or reading the directions to be sure you didn’t miss a step Also, a good power cycling may be in order

@@TheClackShack I figured it out. also the ir offset button is used once focused to the material you press it and it gives you x y coordinates that you can input on the laser offset and that allows you to use the lasers crosshairs to line up on materials. it works great!!

One suggestion for your videos. If you place a magnet on the spot where the cover comes down on the front right corner, it will allow you to run everything you wish with the cover open. BUT PLEASE, IF YOU’RE GOING TO DO ANYTHING THAT WILL TURN ON THE LASER, PUT ON APPROPRIATE GOGGLES!

If you import the setting file from XTool, it should set it for you. It should be gcode but using their config file, will make sure it is correct. Here is the instructions. support.xtool.com/article/1036

It has a coated pan under it. It is also 1/4 above the pan which should keep most of the sticky stuff off it. Only time will truly tell

I gave LB a try with the S1 actually setting LB up as I watched this video. I ran into a snag, everything worked as you showed except the z seems to be off. I zero'd and tried a cut file I did before it had a lot of burning on the surface even with air assist. I took the same file and sent it to XCS and same cut settings no burning any thought? Also same piece of Baltic Birch

Unless the Z axis didn't set properly. Did you make sure the air was on? Feel the pump? Make sure your firmware is current on the machine.

Always start from home, Cut all pieces and place the panels, lock it down and cut item slots. Then change cuts to tool lines and save. I have lots of videos explaining and demonstrating it.

Unfortunately, having a difficult time trying to get the red crosshair to align with the program. It's mostly hit and miss as to where it's gonna end up. Other than that, thanks for the info!

You could have to align the laser offset but if the machine is focused, it should be right.

@@TheClackShack Had to do some more testing but now I got it dialed in. A huge issue I'm having now is it is now stuck at 100% power when trying to score. I double check the layer settings at it's at 80spd/20pwr and it did fine one the first run, but had to do a second run on one part of my project due to bad spot of wood gap. I restarted the machine, closed the program, reloaded the project and it still persists. Is the file corrupted? Or is lightburn just a hot mess?

Make sure you have the latest firmware.

If by LOST console, you mean it isn't showing. Go to windows up top and unhide it.

You have to place the head over the material then hit the button. If it doesn't work on your machine, may wanna check firmware for updates. It works on mine

Press the button in XCS, use the laser to mark the boundary.

I keep getting an error when connecting to my s1 on lightburn. It says “The library failed to load (Z:/LIBRARIES/Atzer V35.clb)”. Do you have any insight on why this is happening and how I can fix this issue. I’ve been using your configuration file for about a week now and it has worked fantastic. This is the first time this error has occurred and it is now not letting me move my laser from within lightburn.

Thank you for the file and great video. I struggled to cut anything before your video. I think I didn’t understand the autofocus (as well as home clearing it) before watching your video. Now I am just having an issue with the test patterns coming out as triangles. Is this a firmware problem?

I think the triangles is an issue with it reading the file. Probably a firmware fix in order
