I have a white father and a very dark black mother and I remember the day that my younger brother was born and he came out with a darker complexion and the nurse literally said "Don't worry, he'll lighten up later." 🤮🤮 This was in Canada.

Omg that’s horrible 😯
@DieezahArts
@DieezahArts 2 жыл бұрын
Not only was that horrible but in most cases it is incorrect. The one thing that may happen is when the baby has a spot on their body with a concentration of melanin (like my eldest who had their backside so dark it was almost blue while the rest of them was whitish/pinkish) it typically lightens over time, but it's just that spot. Other than that, black babies who were born dark remain dark and those who were born pale or white-looking typically darken as they age and their "real color" starts showing when they start being old enough to play outside a lot. Living in a tropical climate, you won't see much variation after that until much later in life (or if sickness comes along). In a country like Canada, there will be variations in hue depending on the season but nothing huge. I can't believe the ignorance, especially from folks in the medical field...

I was told that Black-fishing is costuming being “Black-ish” or “Black-adjacent”. My understanding is the goal with it is for non-Black people to never be seen as *only* Black, but, borrow and benefit from the objectification that Black people can’t escape/choose to take off. Like any other word though, definitions change overtime and take on a new collective meaning. That was just the one example I was personally given. I really enjoyed this video, I got a lot of insight from it. I hope you’re well ☀️

The first thing you said was everything for me because I have been arguing that point four years!... I love Ari Lennox and she dropped a new song and video on the same day that Chloe Haley dropped a new song and video. And I noticed that even though both songs are good Chloe has Beyonce and Jay-Z behind her with all of their money and all of their resources so it received a harder put I don't even follow her and that s*** was in my mentions no less than 10 times. Somehow because I like Ari Lennox new song and video Chloe's video was recommended to me over and over again. Some artists are not as popular and it's never because they lack Talent it's because they don't have the same marketing management and money behind them.

I’m at a point where I’m just not stabbing celebrities. I like to listen to to commentaries about events regarding celebrities because I believe those events say a lot about our current society. I was over Nicky after the rainbow guy who says the n word. Also I agree that those women are trying to look racially ambiguous but they do so with styles rooted in black culture such as box braids, Bantu knots, feed in braids/cornrows, etc so that’s why I say black fishing. They’re using that ambiguous look to justify appropriating alot of elements of black culture. Anyway I love your channel. ❤️

I enjoy listening to your perspective but have a couple of controversial views. We as black women participate in our own cancellation. (1) We actively support the bi racial women and the black men that elevate them. I think that black fishing wouldn’t be as much of a thing if there wasn’t money to be made from it and part of that money is the money BW use to support. (2) We include in our group people who are not black and people who are not women, and then get surprised when they feel entitled to our space. I prickled every time you referred to non-men as though the only groups are men and non men. I have never heard you refer to non women. I think that type of thinking also contributes to our erasure as black women.

im glad you brought up her catalog because she has been instrumental in white women rebranding themselves through the tough bad sassy black caricature used to signify a change in sound or looks. Ariana, Katy, Jessy. Meanwhile, Black non-men (including gay people because of the stigma of gayness stripping you of your gender) come few and far between on her catalog. She goes out of her way to beef with other Non white female rappers. Tearing them down and using mysogynoir then turning around and calling out other people for it.

White women want to be "black passing" for profit only. I agree that dark skin women have a harder time getting the same kind of support that lighter women get. I get your point by mentioning Doja but keep in mind that she was making music for about 8 years before she was noticed, she's still pretty young. All of her popular songs that we hear now are over 5 years old. I don't think she got a break due to being biracial. There are many who have for sure. I fall in the middle of the brown spectrum but if there's a lighter woman and me in the room I become invisible. I've also seen the favour I get compared to my sister who is a black woman with very dark sink. Sorry for rambling. I love your videos and hearing your pov.
@lola.odetola
@lola.odetola 2 жыл бұрын
doja was only used as an example, it’s not about her previous catalog or the fact that she’s been working for 8 years. it’s about the money that is invested into light skinned/ biracial acts once signed because they have “the look.” it’s about how willing the industry is to platform her opposed to dark skinned artists. it’s about the fact that she went viral for moo because it was funny and she’s considered to be very conventionally attractive (and many people find biracial people highly attractive because we’ve been socialised to do so).
@ktnixon81
@ktnixon81 2 жыл бұрын
@@lola.odetola Yup! There are underground dark skinned artists that have been grinding for years that still haven’t had the money train behind Doja. Rapsody (underground for over a decade) and Tierra Whack (about the same) are just now getting some play but still not a lot of money behind them. It could also be linked to sexuality as those two tend to stay covered up compared to Doja Cat.

where do the sex come from all this sex...I am utterly dumb founded because there are young people listening to the radio nowadays and if you are speaking so vulgarly it will cause them to grow up to soon. I want to see artist win all the time. But if there are people too afraid to approach the label about supporting talent without sex, violence, and materialism we are creating a yes culture. People are too afraid to say that we have had enough as the public of sex, violence, love, marriage, procreation, and materialism in music. Artist are tired of it too. They put it out because they think it will sell and to appease the fans. It is too much sex. I get it that Hollywood is full of beautiful, smart, talented, and rich people but they need to be told when they have bad ideas. Also the labels and the public need to step up and support the artist financially they don't get as much as they should.

They don’t want to just be mixed, they could pretend to be white and Asian but instead they chose blackness to imitate. These women look crazy and so do everyone supporting them. This woman has probably never seen a black person before but because she wants to rap, she has to dress up as black today. Like why they can’t just rap or sing or talk as themselves? Why do they have to put on a costume to sing?? It’s so sick, the worst part is that if a black woman were to do that with say K-pop, people would scream self hate and delusion. 🙄

Whenever the gate keepers allowed a dark-skinned woman into the spotlight zone, best believe it was one that could easily be objectified by the white male audiences thanks to features such as prominent lips, prominent derrières, or something else to the same overall effect... (not always a combo of all of the above in a single individual but hey...). And typically that black woman was introduced by, formatted/shaped by a white person be it in the world of haute couture, cinema or music. I'm thinking of Grace Jones, the one dark-skinned icon from my childhood. I'm also thinking Naomi Campbell when I was a teen (by the way, a fact that folks tend to be ignorant about is that even when living in a tropical climate, our skintone will be subject to variations over time depending on several factors including sun exposure, aging and health so folks who see Naomi NOW and call her light-skin make me laugh. She's initially dark and she spent her whole life in cold countries which is accelerating factor in the loss of pigmentation...). I'm in my early 40s and apart from these two (and they both worked the fashion industry and tried singing) the only other dark-skinned female I've seen who stayed in the spotlight for a while was Tracy Chapman. And when you take a closer look at the music industry in the U.S., it was really a thing in the 80s and 90s, to make black singers appear lighter on album covers, magazine photos and music videos, thanks to makeup and overexposure during the shoot... It really didn't help.

Hey! I hate to be that person, and this really is just a nitpick that's meant as lighthearted, but non men is very flawed as a term. Like it gets the message across but it technically leaves out a lot of people it's meant to include, like gender fluid people or trans men who's experiences overlap with the experiences of women but are men, whether it's sometimes or all the time. It also just sends the message of "men bad" which hurts a lot of marginalised people like trans men and gay men, or any queer person attracted to men really. It's just my opinion though, it's not that serious I just know that a lot of people including me don't like that term because it excludes us when it's meant to be inclusive of us.

*What is the Gospel?* The true gospel is the good news that God saves sinners. Man is by nature sinful and separated from God with no hope of remedying that situation. But God, by His power, provided the means of man’s redemption in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Romans 10:9 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. JESUS CHRIST can come anytime! Just Believe ❤️ Love you and GOD BLESS

I appreciate your perspective queen and I hear you but in my opinion this is a NON issue Racism can not be combated on an individual level. If someone like black culture more on a white person, that is their personal ignorance. But I don't care about their ignorance and I'm not gonna waste my time trying to crucify a grown woman who likes a certain culture and wants to act and look any way they want. Jessy is grown. What if you liked a style and someone said you cant wear or portray it cuz ppl will like it better on you than on our own ppl. That's immature and a pointless battle to have. The fact that our culture is more favorably accepted on others is f'ed but it's not the ppl who want to honor and mimic our culture. Its not their fault. Let them live and be adults and dress and act how they want (as long as they arent deliberately mocking us) And let's focus on fighting racism through systematic f'ed up laws and statutes and hold this system accountable. Ppl like jesy are not the enemy.

Nicki is allowed to wear straight blonde hair and contact lenses so jessy should be allowed some lip filler and a tan.

Yet Nicki Minaj and Beyonce are literally the same color as a paper bag and don't look like biracials...... See this is how you guys love to even blame brown skinned women for colorism. It's weird because darker skinned women than you will blame you too for colorism so why do you guys love to blame those lighter than you as a brown skinned woman I refuse to deduce myself to nonsense like this. and the thing that's so crazy is this. You ds black people think you can call us black people all foul names and it's ok because you're dark the second someone calls you black that's brown skinned like Nikki it's colorism you stay claiming victimhood when you're the main people who spread racism around

How can a term that’s been around for decades that’s actively used to describe something that’s been happening for centuries, have “died out”?

No, the last of your brain cells died out in 2019. If you come up from under that rock you live under for 5 seconds, whatever is left of your intelligence may allow you to realize that colorism STILL exists.
