I agree 100% with this. MOre oil makes a colder burning FLuid. Oil is a very slow burning liquid. When i first bought my Cr 250 way back a few years ago. I went from 32:1 -50:1. The bike leaned out and worked awesome. NO jetting needed. The more oil you have the colder the burn. That is a fact.

I get a solid 4 years of HARD riding when I do my rebuilds like this. I haven't found a better way to break in a 2 stroke. Just make sure your jetting is on and you have no intake or exhaust leaks. Check out my vids on that too.

@ChevroletBoy3 I bought my pipes used, I believe they were bare metal or pewter coated then painted black. My recommendation is wood burning stove paint. It is ceramic I believe,

@2StrokeSmokes No I spoke correctly. When you have less oil it means there is more gas entering the cylinder on each stroke. Therefor it makes a rich condition. So if you run 40:1 with the same jet(s) as 32:1 then the 40:1 engine would be running richer.
@SparkysGarage
@SparkysGarage 11 жыл бұрын
The engine is broken in after a few heat cycles. I would say after a couple hours of riding and letting it cool down then you should be go. Don't forget to check for intake and exhaust leaks a lot while breaking in the engine
@2StrokeSmokes
@2StrokeSmokes 12 жыл бұрын
@bozillakilla know that too much oil can be a bad thing. It can cause the plug to fowl, carbon built up, and because the oil coats the cylinder walls, cause the engine to get hot. Lean will simply starve the engine of the oil it needs.
@SparkysGarage
@SparkysGarage 12 жыл бұрын
@codyraab1 It is always important to let the quad warm up to operating temps before you ride. I would use this same process for breaking in a 4 stroke, however breaking in a 4 stroke is much less critical then a 2 stroke.
@SparkysGarage
@SparkysGarage 11 жыл бұрын
Well there is no cam so you don't have to worry about that :) If it rides fine then keep riding it. Do a compression check though and if it comes back low then do a rebuild
@SparkysGarage
@SparkysGarage 12 жыл бұрын
@DaMonsterMonster I realized that. For the most part in the 2 stroke quad world when we refer to lean or rich is gas/air. Not fuel/gas. Sorry for the confusion.
@SparkysGarage
@SparkysGarage 11 жыл бұрын
I explain this all in my oil mix video. It makes it richer in a sense of oil/gas but leaner in the sense that matters more, which is gas/air. If you watch that video you will understand.

the variation in the RPM's is for when you're riding and breaking it in so that you can't get a "dead point" in you cilinder/piston because its worn out by staying at the same RPM's for too long and it's kind of hard never to let it idle I only ride my (2 stroke) bike in the weekends and I'll always let it idle for like a minute or two , just to make sure everything is well lubricated then I ride out but keep it in low rpm's till the engine is warmed up and after that its just plain fun
@acemaster1001
@acemaster1001 12 жыл бұрын
I dont know if i agree with this theory. Oil is SLow burning. When you have a slow/cold burn, you run rich. ITs not the same as running different jets, Because your Gas:oil ratio is now slower and colder when it ignites. I get how the oil and fuel runs slower through the jets and that would make it run leaner when more oil is added. But, If you have alot of smoke from your exhaust, YOu are running rich/colder because the oil doesnt burn up 100%. And thats why you get smoke.

@acemaster1001
@acemaster1001 12 жыл бұрын
That theory only applies with jet changing. Once you start to fuck around with oil/fuel mixtures. YOur fuel burn slower and colder when you add more oil. Which makes is rich. Its not the same as doing a jet change.

Wrong. Engines(2 stroke) do not seat with "heat cycling". That's a myth. New engine parts are precision and already treated when built. Once built, you warm the engine fully at idle , then ride it hard. This seats the rings against the cylinder wall perfectly, and you have a very short opportunity to do this. Within a 20 min period or so. Motors run in this way last longer, run harder and make more power. I've done it this way since I was told to do so against my will. I am a believer, and follow this guideline strictly.
@chadwems

that's what my co worker did with his wr200. he said he rebuilt it. let it warm up. then rode the hell out of it. not wide open. but she didn't blow up. or seize up

When its too much oil, its rich. Too little oil its lean. I think you meant to say rich at 3:16. But other than that I have to agree 100% what you said. I do it the same way with great results. By the way I have to say your one of few that would agree with me that running more oil in the gas on break-in is a shitty idea. Run the same 32:1 mix with 2R, always.
@SparkysGarage
@SparkysGarage 11 жыл бұрын
It's a guess. There is no way to tell how dense the metal is or how fast the piston rings are seating. Usually after a few heat up/cool down periods then you are good.
@SparkysGarage
@SparkysGarage 12 жыл бұрын
Right around a 280 should be good after you get an exhaust. Also switch to a 27.5 pilot when you get an exhaust. As for now, what are the symptoms to where you think the jetting needs to be changed? A 240 sounds rich to me with just a filter and reeds. Maybe try a 220?

@MultiFordpower If you are running conventional oil like yamalube or something along those line si would run 32:1. If you are running a high quality fully synthetic oil I would recommend 40:1 due to the extra wear protection. Correct, I dont go past 3rd until the break in is done. The powerband really depends on the individual machine and setup but most banshee's will hit the powerband before 3/4 throttle, so usually yes. Thanks for commenting! Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Anytime you rebuild a two stroke you should run your fuel mix a bit richer and or adjust the jetting. Don't go real long hi rps get the engine good and warm let it cool then repeat. Use a lot of up and down speeds from the throttle which you do dirt riding.

10 years ago oil technology wasn't nearly as good as it is today. With a quality synthetic oil there is no reason to douse the engine with more oil. It does more harm than good. Thanks for the comment.

supertruckerrolling I have been rebuilding my two strokes since 1978 and never change the oil ratio . If you richen the fuel oil ratio , you have leaned the air fuel ratio . Pre-lube your parts , run your proper fuel oil mix , do an easy breakin . I have had great results with this . In my opinion bore and parts life are improved with consistent tuning , and not letting rings and pistons go till their last leg . An example is my 85cr500 , Still standard bore , MC1 at 40:1 it's whole life . Changed rings often and piston every other time . Yes this bike was raced when new and has seen plenty of use , just got back from pismo . Just my 2cents .

oil does not combust like gas, sir. so there fore, you will run in a "lean" air fuel mixture. i couldnt really see it as being "bad" for the motor, i just think it would screw you up on your jetting. making you think your jets too big or not big enough and you constantly go back and fourth, witch then you could think your good, then drop your ratio of oil/gas and run lean and screw things up.. but idk hah.

@2StrokeSmokes
@2StrokeSmokes 12 жыл бұрын
@bozillakilla Yea, ok. But with that mentality the bike will be lubed better with less oil... And my point was not about what ratio is best. For your case I'm willing to bet that it was the fact that you ran the bike for two years rather than the different mixture that blew it up. If you mix lets say 20 parts gas to 1 part oil, its on the rich side. If you mix 50 parts gas to one part oil is going to be on the lean side. More oil makes it smoke more and called a rich condition. And I do

I guess people just dream up ways to "properly break in a new 2 cycle racing engine" just because them and their buddies did it a certain way and it STILL RUNS...?? There is a correct way... (this is close).. varying RPM's.. NEVER-NEVER LET IT IDLE AT A CONSTANT RPM..THIS ALLOWS THE ENGINE TO LOAD UP WITH UNBURNT GAS/OIL MIX. trying to burn this clogging mixture makes the engine run hotter - idling without airflow makes the engine run hotter... even for a few minutes!!! Always ride the bike/atv for break-in ... SHIFT through ALL the gears (don't miss a shift!) then shift back to first and repeat for about 10-15 minutes. Keep the RPM's low and varying!..NO FULL THROTTLE ! ( NO extra oil except what was used as assembly lube!) . Let the engine cool until you can lay your hand on the head and keep it there. Retorque head/cyl. nuts. NO MORE then 10% above factory specs!! Then repeat the going through the gears, going a little higher (and varying) ( NO FULL THROTTLE YET!) in the RPM range this time for about 20-30 minutes. Let the bike cool completely again (see above message)..::>> REPEAT THE ABOVE STEPDO NOT WRING OUT THE ENGINE ONLY SMALLER JETS make the engine run LEAN! The extra oil only makes break-in take a lot longer and foul spark plugs. The oil/fuel mixture is richer... NOT THE FUEL/AIR MIXTURE > DO NOT USE EXTRA OIL! DO NOT use HOTTER spark plugs!!!!!!!!IF YOU WANT A BAD-ASS BANSHEE ENGINE.. YOUR MECHANIC SHOULD KNOW HOW TO MODIFY THE ENGINE CASES AND MATCH-PORT THEM. (THIS WILL BE REQUIRED AFTER CASE MODS.) , , MODIFY THE COMBUSTION CHAMBERS, AND MILL THE HEAD AFTERWARD. If HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT... GET Another ENGINE BUILDER!!

I'm going to have to disagree with that, BUT, I'm not about to go into a argument about it. If that's what works for you, stick to it. Your ratio you mix at all depends on the jetting and that's the end of the story, no more to it than that. I have had a yz 125, banshee, and a yz 250 and I have never blown a engine. I mix 32:1 with 2r and my bikes are jetting accordingly.

My fuel mixing ratio is 36:1 to be safe im pretty happy with my bike but want to get more power now im looking for an exhaust but until i do or even if i do what size jets should i run i was thinking somewhere like 270-280 for a T5 or Pro circuit.
