Take a ride with me as I take out the new Yamaha Mt-07 and the Yamaha Mt-09 for a rip. This will be my first ride on both of the bikes, hopefully to gain an appreciation for each bike and what its capabilities, best attributes are for a rider looking at either of these two models.

I really enjoyed this review. I actually ended up getting the MT 09, (exact same model you rode) and your review is SPOT ON. I really appreciate your honesty, especially when you say the bike intimidates you - ME TOO! I LOVE THIS BIKE, but you have to respect the bike. This bike is not a beginner bike, really scratch my head when I read the "experts" say that it "could be" for beginners. Again, thanks for the review!

I will say this this is a really good honest side by side comparison and review. I actually just bought a 2019 mt-09 that looks just like that one with about $2,000 worth of modifications done to it. And I bought it sight unseen not knowing anything about the bike I saw it and said I have to have it. I don't regret it one of the most comfortable bikes I've ever ridden and tons of power there whenever you want it. Good job on the man.

Just rolled 4,400 on my 2018 MT-07. I love this bike! When the FZ-07 first launched I was smitten by them. I'm a Yamaha guy and started on a 2013 XT250. I put 27,000 miles on that bike and now my brother uses it to commute in New Orleans. R1's are my dream bike, with the MT-07 being a strong second. Before I bought my MT, I put something like 20,000 miles on a 2007 GSXR-600 I bought from a close friend. Two valves burnt out, I bought my best friend's 2012 Ninja 250 and it broke down shortly after I got it running again. So I went and bought Misty. I haven't regretted it. I sped a lot on the GSXR, and Misty has power that you an actually use without being way up in the rev range. I personally haven't had any complaints about the handlebars being narrow, and the bike is just all around a good time. The 09's are tempting, but even on the 07's the front will effortlessly come up accelerating half-full throttle from a standstill.
@SkylerStutzman
@SkylerStutzman 5 жыл бұрын
I think the 07 is most likely the best all around bike for not getting into trouble, I personally would have to change out the bars but aside from that I think especially for the price you can buy a bike that is better. The 09 being tempting that is has just a few extras. It would be a hard choice for sure.

My pearl white 2018 MT-07 is the best bike I have owned out of 24 (I'm 62). I got it for $7,524 OTD. Initially, I felt the bars were too narrow. After 1,000 miles, the bars now feel normal and I like them. The horn is very poorly placed. The engine is a marvel. It has torque everywhere and is smooth. I usually ride backroads at 65 MPH and for that speed, the bike is perfect. At 5,000 RPMs the speedometer indicates 72 MPH and at 6,000 RPMs, 84 MPH. I took a test ride on the MT-09 and turned around after 1/4 mile and brought it back to the dealer. It was too twitchy for me. The MT-07 has 12.13 and 107.70 quarter mile times which are quicker and faster than my 1975 Kawasaki Z-1 times of 12.37 at 107.39 which was called "The fastest production vehicle in the world" by a bike magazine. I average 58 MPG. The handling and braking are amazing. The gearbox produces solid but smooth shifts. The bike only weighs 403 lbs. wet. Yamaha was recently noted as the best built brand. If you are looking for a back road blaster which can still do short highway trips, the MT-07 is hard to beat for the price.

I've had the mt-07 for a long period, after switching to the mt-09 I wouldn't ever go back to the mt-07. Sure mt-07 is a good bike, but the power is amazing on the mt-09, and once you learn to control it the throttle gets smoothed out. Completely wrecks almost everything with its torque. I learned on the mt-07 as a first bike and wouldn't ever recommend the mt-09 to a newbie, with the amount stuff that happened to me during the first year of ridding, the mt-07 was extremely more forgiving than the mt-09 would of been.

I own a 2016 FZ09 (no frills). I'm 5',7" 150 lbs. and can flat foot it no problem. Experienced rider so I bought it to commute. YES...START OUT IN B MODE!!! (Which is also GREAT when you get caught out in the rain!) Then I graduated to Standard mode (my daily choice). But the wind was kicking my ass so I put on a factory tall screen and SW Motech bags (So trick, she's naked again in less than 5 min). I call it Clark Kent configuration. Under all that "crap" is still an FZ09! After 2 1/2 years of owning her I almost forgot she had A mode! Two and a half years later I had a bike with a new personality rarely explored. Ummm, save A mode for the track! (BIG SMILE) This bike keeps on giving. Solid choice for an experienced rider/commuter.

My 2019 Yamaha MT-07 is just fine for an experienced 50 yr old rider who formerly had a 2000 Kawasaki ZX-12 Ninja. Obviously not as fast but it's light and comfortable doing stand up wheelies through 3rd gear on i-25 in Denver, Co! Lol

"This bike has way more power than anyone needs." "You really have to grow into this power." "B mode is fine for me." Wow an honest reviewer. I have had an MT 09 for 5 months. Those comments are exactly correct Skyler . I have been riding for 40 years and have had 900 Triumph Triples but this thing is angry. Other reviewers have raved about the power n light weight and quick throttle response but let me tell you unless you are racing it is very tiring to keep the thing legal and stop it trying to climb over the back of the other vehicles. B mode is far more relaxing and suited to any riding than Normal or A mode. I call it pussy mode but really that is fine. It is silky smooth and you do not have to be always readjusting throttle on any bump and spending brain cells on your throttle position. Sometimes instant torquey power in any gear is just tiring not fun. Good review.

MT07 bars are perfect for traffic filtering and lane splitting. Just have to put marginally more pressure on the bars in high speed cornering, good compromise in my opinion. The only similarity between the 2 bikes is the Yamaha badge and both bring out the hooligan in all of us!!!

I owned a 2016 FZ-07. Numerous mods and ECU flash. Even tracked it a little. Bought an MT-09 2 weeks before Xmas (2018 model) and have never looked back. The 09 is everything the 07 wished it could be. And it still fits shorter people. ALL the power you need. Currently waiting for my forks to come back with the K-tech cartridges fitted (matching K-Tech shock in the back), then I'll be headed to the track to wring the girls neck :-) If you're a newer rider the 07 is a perfect bike. Excellent value/performance for what you get. I honestly enjoyed your video. It was informative and seemed really sincere. Good work!

Wind starts being an issue at 75 mph + the small windshield of the mt 10 makes a big difference so if you got something for the mt 09, even that small it will help and also complete the look.

Being into mtb's i was looking at front shock inserts for it as well. Feels cheap in the front. Sounds like a mad harley when you put a full exhaust on thoe. Fz07 is fun, but a pig after 80mph. I can’t argue with that. That’s exactly why I bought the MT-09.. it does everything! I’m about to take a 1600 mi road trip on her. I wouldn’t ever try half that on an R1. So what I will say is that with a super sport you have a very linear power band up to 16k rpms. As it’s meant to be held wide open on a track with a smooth power. These naked bikes house the same kind of power in a power band of 9-11k Which means you have a lot more usable power that is friendly on the street, but also perhaps quick to accelerate and get you into trouble if you lack experience. Twitchy one might say. The 07 is much more forgiving than that if the 09. IMO.

I have both the FZ-07 and the MT-09 in the garage. The FZ is my brothers. I absolutely hate it compared to my bike lol. It feels like a little toy that doesn't have much power or comfort in my opinion. The MT09 is just better in every way. Great video my guy!

Thank you kindly sir. The MT-09 in my opinion is just a superior bike in every aspect. I get the MT-07 for someone who is new to riding. It’s a great bike. However, the MT-09 takes away that gap where you might grow out of the bike wanting more.

@@SkylerStutzman Honestly, I dont think its necessary to do that ( Been riding for 50 years ). Aside from it being illegal, the bigger problem as I see it, espc in the USA, is that you could really piss someone off and could have a road rage incident. Its incredibly annoying to have someone right behind you with a blinding light on, and it could provoke an unfriendly reaction. People coming towards you on a narrow road could also get pissed and do a swerve on you. At night it would be a complete no-no if any traffic about. Wearing bright gear and Lid is a better way to get noticed IMO.

I run the high beams on my bike during the day too so that I can be seen a little easier. Especially not having an led headlight on my bike... gives me a little more peace of mind and isn’t as bright for oncoming vehicles as if it was on at night.

Make the switch to a full size bike if you are ready. The MT-09 is a great bike but it will require your discipline to be safe.

I hope you’re still looking at comments cause I’d love your opinion! I currently ride a ZX6R and as much as LOVE my bike I think I want something a bit more comfortable… I’ve been considering an MT but I don’t know which size to go with! I love the sound of the 07 but I’m concerned that moving from a 600cc super sport the power of an 07 might be lackluster. Should I go with a bit more power or something a bit toned down considering I’m a rider looking for similar power with more comfort?
