drove my r3 1200 miles ( from texas to wyoming) and she handled it like a champ! Not the ideal long distance bike but it can be done. Could definitely take it from coast to coast if you wanted

My longest one day trip is 320 miles, and eventually I bought the Saddlemen gel seat to eliminate my bum from crying. I hope everyone understands the R3 is just a normal motorcycle, quite capable of doing what other motorcycles do. The one difference is the comfortable riding position. My old Triumph sport bike would have my elbows and neck in terrible pain to ride the same distance.
@FreshRides
@FreshRides 8 жыл бұрын
D. Paul Riderman yeah being able to sit up or lean forward you sort of get the best of both worlds. The gel seat will be my next move
@TD402dd
@TD402dd 8 жыл бұрын
If you happen to consider the saddlemen gel seat, I warn you it isn't particularly soft. However the gel in the bottom really eliminates the impact of the road. The layered foam is multi-density so it holds you bum away from the bike. Although it doesn't seem very comfortable, I don't have fatigue from long rides. The factory seat uses plastic base and the saddlemen is metal, so it has more rigidity from the start. I like it because it also raises the seat height 1/2" so the leg position is a bit more relaxed.
@breakwood8531
@breakwood8531 5 жыл бұрын
D. Paul Gladstone which saddlemen did you buy? The gp-v1 or the CF track? I end up buying the gp thinking it was gonna be softer but shit was I wrong lol. You’re right tho it’s a way better seat and the height is nice to, cornering is also better. But I wish it was softer.

After watching your vblog, I can see why we in BC, it is elegal to cruise in the left lane...unless you are passing. So it is a lot of "leap frogging" if you want to make time. Works great, for one thing you don't get "rolling road blocks" if you know what a mean. The west coast is crazy, sick for scenery and curves. good vid bro

The R3 Saddlemen seat (with gel pack under foam) is worth the $200. It seems hard until get about 300 miles on it, and then you realize you bum hasn't screamed at you. The seat frame is metal instead of plastic which doesn't flex over/under road bumps.

OK, I had commented on this vid about a year ago. Then a used R3 has come up for sale nearby and it can be bought CHEAP because it got put down and slid about 100'. No frame damage, only plastic on one side. Anywhooooo, I was noticing your on ramp merge at 13:16 and it boggles my mind how this "little" 320cc R3 can accelerate dang near as fast from 55 to 80 as my 96 cubic inch (roughly 1600cc) 2009 Harley Fat Bob!

I have a 2015 R3. Am planning a trip from where I live in Eastern Canada down to Key West, then up to Columbus, Ohio, and back home via Vermont, New Hampshire. I'll be staying away from the expressways, and sticking to the 60 Mph routes. Do you think an R3 is up for the task? I can upgrade the windshield to a zero gravity double bubble, or trade the R3 in on a 600 cc bike. Thoughts?
@FreshRides
@FreshRides 8 жыл бұрын
4stringsRplenty it's definitely capable but you'll have to pack as light as you can, the higher windscreen will help. Get some saddle bags for the trip to help with your back pain. Sounds fun I'm jealous. Make sure you tell your bank before you leave so your card doesn't get frozen

Curious how your back held up due to the riding position? I'm 48 and not interested in the supersports or cruisers. Got rid of my Triumph America cruiser in 2013 and its riding position, while relaxed, put a lot of downward pressure on my spine due to my feet being out ahead of me with the forward controls. The Yamaha ZR6 has a great riding position, but a bit heavy on the wrists for long journeys. Hoping the Yamaha or KTM 390 Duke has a more relaxed position with feet more downward than the Ninja 300. And I've done the big bike thing, but over it. The turns and acceleration are what is fun for me, but riding in excess of 100mph is not my thing. 0 to 80 is where it's at for me but haven't had a chance to check out an R3's ergos. Any advice/thoughts? By the way, nice trip you took. I'm from Illinois myself so it's cool to see others vlog as they travel through. I don't get back that way much anymore, but the roads sure open up more once off the interestates in the midwest so you can have some fun.

Bill B pretty good, r3 sits more upright than most sport bikes I have an r6 now and it isn't great for long distance. I've ridden supersport bikes my whole life I'm used to it. I stop ever two hours to give my back a break

I've got the same concerns re: riding position on the R3 but I'm gonna get one anyway. I want it for the mountain curvies but I will try it long distance. I rode a Yam XS400R Seca in '82 from ATL to SFO on I70 thru STL and back thru HOU on I10 , loaded with camping gear. I figure the R3 has it beat on HP; 35 years of tech, ya know. The carburetor-ed Seca was gasping going over the Continental divide. But it did sit upright so it worked well. I don't know how the R3 will fare long haul; plus I'm not as limber as I used to be.

Fresh Rides. Got some questions please. I am 15 years old and wanting to get a bike for my 16th birthday. My choices would be a Yamaha R3 or a Suzuki GSX150. I am 5 foot 8 and 180 pounds. Would the Yamaha R3 be worth the extra price tag over the GSX150. (its nearly double the price) I am not sure which is the best bike to get started on. BTW i dont plan to switch to another bike for a while. Whichever one i get ima keep for at least a couple of years.

You'll outgrow a 150 too fast, you may outgrow the r3 fast, but as your first bike and one you'll keep a while i'd go with one of the 300s

I watched your video again and it made me wonder why you didn't take US80 to I85 to Montgomery and I65 directly to Nashville?
@FreshRides
@FreshRides 8 жыл бұрын
I've taken that way before. I think they way I took has better views, and better places to stop off the highway to stop and take a break/eat/sleep. Both take about the same time with stopping off at my folks place in Indy. If I go straight home to Illinois the Alabama route is faster for sure.

Hi FR, Your R3 runs so smooth and easily passes cars. Plus is runs reasonably quiet. Is your R3 stock or with which mods?

being from the UK the motorway lane laws seem so weird, i see people doing various speeds in various lanes. can you do any speed in any lane?
@FreshRides
@FreshRides 7 жыл бұрын
Riccardo Pelc-wesoly no just 1 speed limit. However everyone still drives in different lanes. Typical slower traffic is in the right, curbside lane and faster traffic stays left

Alright cool. how it is in the UK, From the video it definitely seems less strict over your side of the pond. Great Video ! it was a joy to watch.

What do you use to charge your phone on the bike? Some type of inverter with USB?
@FreshRides
@FreshRides 7 жыл бұрын
it is a wire with a fuse and usb connection basically a battery tender hook up with a USB fitting

Fresh Rides Does it have a way to regulate the voltage and amperage? USB is 5V. Motorcycle is 12V. Can burn up phone if not...
@FreshRides
@FreshRides 7 жыл бұрын
not sure to be honest, maybe something within the fuse that regulates. I've never had issues with it affecting my phone on three different motorcycles doing the same thing with different phones over the last 5-6 years, then from the usb i just run my standard lightning cable.

No that’s what people told you. 300cc bikes can be used for short trips and even long trips if you’re not in a hurry. Millions of people around the world with years of experience still ride 300s everyday
