My longest one day trip is 320 miles, and eventually I bought the Saddlemen gel seat to eliminate my bum from crying. I hope everyone understands the R3 is just a normal motorcycle, quite capable of doing what other motorcycles do. The one difference is the comfortable riding position. My old Triumph sport bike would have my elbows and neck in terrible pain to ride the same distance.
@FreshRides8 жыл бұрын
D. Paul Riderman yeah being able to sit up or lean forward you sort of get the best of both worlds. The gel seat will be my next move
@TD402dd8 жыл бұрын
If you happen to consider the saddlemen gel seat, I warn you it isn't particularly soft. However the gel in the bottom really eliminates the impact of the road. The layered foam is multi-density so it holds you bum away from the bike. Although it doesn't seem very comfortable, I don't have fatigue from long rides. The factory seat uses plastic base and the saddlemen is metal, so it has more rigidity from the start. I like it because it also raises the seat height 1/2" so the leg position is a bit more relaxed.
@breakwood85315 жыл бұрын
D. Paul Gladstone which saddlemen did you buy? The gp-v1 or the CF track? I end up buying the gp thinking it was gonna be softer but shit was I wrong lol. You’re right tho it’s a way better seat and the height is nice to, cornering is also better. But I wish it was softer.

After watching your vblog, I can see why we in BC, it is elegal to cruise in the left lane...unless you are passing. So it is a lot of "leap frogging" if you want to make time. Works great, for one thing you don't get "rolling road blocks" if you know what a mean. The west coast is crazy, sick for scenery and curves. good vid bro

The R3 Saddlemen seat (with gel pack under foam) is worth the $200. It seems hard until get about 300 miles on it, and then you realize you bum hasn't screamed at you. The seat frame is metal instead of plastic which doesn't flex over/under road bumps.

I'll be staying away from the expressways, and sticking to the 60 Mph routes. Do you think an R3 is up for the task? @billb82627 жыл бұрын
Curious how your back held up due to the riding position? I'm 48 and not interested in the supersports or cruisers. Got rid of my Triumph America cruiser in 2013 and its riding position, while relaxed, put a lot of downward pressure on my spine due to my feet being out ahead of me with the forward controls. The Yamaha ZR6 has a great riding position, but a bit heavy on the wrists for long journeys. Hoping the Yamaha or KTM 390 Duke has a more relaxed position with feet more downward than the Ninja 300. And I've done the big bike thing, but over it. The turns and acceleration are what is fun for me, but riding in excess of 100mph is not my thing. 0 to 80 is where it's at for me but haven't had a chance to check out an R3's ergos. Any advice/thoughts? By the way, nice trip you took. I'm from Illinois myself so it's cool to see others vlog as they travel through. I don't get back that way much anymore, but the roads sure open up more once off the interestates in the midwest so you can have some fun.
@FreshRides7 жыл бұрын

I've got the same concerns re: riding position on the R3 but I'm gonna get one anyway. I want it for the mountain curvies but I will try it long distance. I rode a Yam XS400R Seca in '82 from ATL to SFO on I70 thru STL and back thru HOU on I10 , loaded with camping gear. I figure the R3 has it beat on HP; 35 years of tech, ya know. The carburetor-ed Seca was gasping going over the Continental divide. But it did sit upright so it worked well. I don't know how the R3 will fare long haul; plus I'm not as limber as I used to be.

Would the Yamaha R3 be worth the extra price tag over the GSX150. (its nearly double the price) I am not sure which is the best bike to get started on.
