Yamaha R6 & R1 Brake Job. In this video I show you how to inspect and replace the brake pads, cleaning caliper pistons, pressing caliper pistons in, Bleeding the brakes and inspecting the brake rotors on a 2000 Yamaha R6.

I have the same steering damper! Do you know how to service it? New oil, etc?? Before I put it on my 02 r6, I could easily ride with no hands. With the damper, I can't ride with no hands. Veers one way or another, is this normal?

I actually need to replace a bad ignition coil on my R6 but I'm not sure when I will have time to do it, it's on my list of things to do so hopefully I will film it this year. Thanks for watching!

Bought a 2008 R1 and some dude just pointed out that the bike R6 calipers on an R1 could that cause a problem seeing that the R1 is more powerful I would think it wouldn’t be a good idea. But I just started riding and barley learning everything. So should make it a priority to swap them to R1 calipers or does it even matter.

The 2008 R1 comes with 6 piston brake calipers. The 2008 R6 comes with 4 piston brake calipers. Putting 4 piston brake calipers on a 2008 R1 will definitely effect the braking power, you might not notice a difference if you are a new rider, but you will definitely notice a difference if you are racing/or are a fast street rider. I personally would put the 6 piston brake calipers back on your 2008 R1, whether its a priority or not depends on your riding style. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

@@WillowsWorldofDIY thank you for your reply to my question. I totally agree with you. I am new to bikes but I used to race all the time in my car so I have some knowledge on the subject. I also know the importance of needing stronger brakes to be able to effectively slow down stronger engines.. That’s why I went ahead and ordered both front & left calipers. I’ll Know in a couple of days when they get here. I’ll get to see how they the R6 calipers feel in comparison to the R1.

Well I got the R1 calipers but they don’t fit on the front wheel. The R1 calipers are longer then the part where they bolt on too. For a second I was like, “did this dude somehow Bamboozle me by saying it’s a R1 idk what the part is called where the front calipers bolt on top.

If your R1 is a 2008 they should fit unless someone replaced the front forks with an older R1 or an R6 fork tubes. Do you know if your R1 has ever been wrecked or in a front in collision?

@@WillowsWorldofDIY DMV said it salvaged. I mean it runs good don’t pull to the sides so I don’t think it has frame damage. Also dude that I purchased it from said it might be salvaged title because he changed the fairing on it. The 08 R1 brake pads has 2 long on one side and 1 long 1 short on the other side. But the ones on my bike are all equal length. 2 long for the front right.....and 2 long for the front left. I purchased the 08 R1 brake calipers but it won’t screw on to where the R6 calipers were screwed on too because the 08 R1’s calipers are longer then the R6. So I’m guessing the part where that holds the forks together on the front bottom must be from an R6 too. Then again I seen a 07’ R1 and it had what looked to be the same 4 piston calipers that mine has. I’m a noob to motorcycles scene so this is all a learning process so Bare with me not using the correct terms or part names.

sorry, but why not put a screwdriver in the pads and reset the calipa before you remove the calipa? also, why is there no lock tight on the bolts when refitted? if you had done it this way you would not have had to rebleed them either.....

It can be done that way but I don't because I don't want to damage the brake rotor with the screwdriver plus any debris on the brake caliper pistons can get pushed past the seals and cause damage to the caliper's and the master cylinder. I didn't use lock tight on the bolts because I use safety wire to prevent the bolts from loosening and falling out. If you don't use safety wire I recommend using lock tight. I didn't have to bleed the brakes, I just wanted to show how to bleed the brake system. You can open the bleeder and press in the caliper pistons then close the bleed screw and add a little brake fluid to top off the reservoir without bleeding the whole system. I hope this is helpful.
