I purchased a new Yamaha Ténéré 700 back in 2021 during lockdown, so no demos were available, and it was an excellent bike for the price, but it wasn't perfect. THE PROS: the CP2 engine is fantastic, it's rated at 72bhp (54,0 kW; 73,4 PS), and has a torque figure of 68.00Nm (50.15lbf ft), which is more than enough power off-road, or on road; it sounds great; the commanding riding position; off-road ability. THE CONS: extremely top-heavy; softly sprung suspension; foot pegs get in the way; tubed tyres (as mentioned); seat is hard; flimsy plastic panels; flimsy hand-guards; screen didn't adjust; the petrol cap doesn't have a hinge, and is not fixed in place, so you have to find somewhere to put it every time you fill up! I would advise anyone to demo a Ténéré 700 before buying, especially if you're a short rider; I'm 6' 2" and even I found it a handful in certain situations. I had one very hairy moment riding through the centre of Wigan, on a main road during rush-hour. The road was badly maintained, it had sunk, and it had a strategically placed pothole at the traffic lights, exactly where a motorcyclist would put their foot down! I would also ask yourself, do you really need an off-road bike, especially in the UK where there aren't that many places to actually go off-road? Maybe, you'd be better off with a sports tourer like the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, or a 'tall rounder', such as the new Suzuki GSX-S1000GX sports crossover or a BMW S1000XR? Or, would a decent second-hand BMW GS be a wiser buy, with its lower centre of gravity, easily lowered seat, and there's the option of the lowered model? I had my Ténéré 700 for a year, but went back to a sport bike, and I'm much happier. I hope my experience with the Ténéré 700 helps you decide if it's the right bike for you before you spend your cash.

Same story with me. Bought tenere 700 rally and sold it after first season and 12000km. Top heavy. Would love to buy 890 adventure but could not live with iffy reliability. Its toss of a coin with KTM. I think i will give 800de a try or an africa twin. I ride 2019 ninja 636 atm, had gsxr 600 before tenere. Love all the clean air i got, not a noisy wind like with pretty much all adv motorcycles
@soulrebelno13 ай бұрын
@@fleshpie2129 You can't go wrong with a Japanese bike! It maybe me, and I know the Ténéré 700 is an adventure bike, but I always thought the engine sat very high in the frame. I also couldn't help notice that Yamaha dropped the tank height and fitted dual fuel tanks when they brought out the Ténéré 700 World Rally and the Raid versions; I wonder why? When I was selling my Yamaha Ténéré 700, I went to a local dealer to have a look around, and ended getting a cracking deal on a Suzuki SV650. I thought I would only keep it for a year, but I've now had it for 2½ years. It does everything I want, and it's a pleasure to ride because I never have to worry about dropping it! It's a bit too small for me, but there, again, all sports bikes are! It's best described as a boulevard dragster, it sounds epic with a slip-on exhaust, and it brings a smile to my face every time I ride it. I'll probably look at changing it early next year, but I'm not in a hurry, I'll see what deals are on offer. The new 2024 Yamaha MT-09 is at the top of my list, and it looks an excellent bike for the money, plus they've fixed the handling. But, then, there's the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory...mmm.

Good review. I know that emissions regs have meant bigger exhausts so more weight, but 230Kg for a middleweight bike is ridiculously lardy. These kind of bikes should be 200Kg max. The extra weight makes the whole bike a massive PITA both on and off the bike. I’m no off-roader so neither appeal but the RE looks quite nice and a more realistic seat height for a road bike.

Interesting video. But an incorrect reference was made to the 'original Ténéré'. That was, in fact, the XT 600ZL Ténéré, released in the early eighties. Equipped with a 30 litre fuel tank, it was an ideal bike for me in Tanzania, where sometimes there was no petrol available for weeks on end, and it was often better to ride parallel to the roads rather than on them.

Wonderful! Entertaining and informative, as usual. I’m in Idaho and there are endless miles of maintained U.S. Forest Service roads that you can basically take a passenger car on. More of them than pavement for sure. I’m on Tiger 900. Out here in the American West you really need displacement for the wide open spaces. The Tiger is that step up from the Tenere in that it might not match a KTM on the dirt but does everything in a lovely relaxing manner. And I really thort id still be crying about selling the blade but for real I can't belive I didn't do it sooner I have a gs 1250 as well while I had the blade but man im in love with my vstrom its 2014 so I've added a abs switch and the no crusiecontrol be let done compared to gs but apart from that the motor with a aftermarket can is a pure dream compared to the horrible noises the gs make. Loving it. Ps still go the 99 blade out in the back shed but 😂 can't go full bladeless lol had that blade since 17yrs old I turn 38 last weekend one day ill restore her. Anyways long comment but yer u guys should now stick some road tyres on and run the twistys with those 2 bikes. Each to their own - but I’d have tubes over tubeless when I ride off road. It only takes about 5 minutes to fix. (I carry spare tubes)
@deanmsimpson8 ай бұрын
Does tyre seal (Ultraseal, Slime) work well in inner tubes for off-roading?
@PisgahGravelProject8 ай бұрын
I agree, tubes are by far better. I'll never own another tubeless system. Spokes leak, wheels can bend, and not all tires 'seat' the same. Some seat well, some don't. But I'll disagree on the time to fix a flat. I'd pay money to see someone take the sensor off, axle loose, blocks out, axle out, tire off on side of the rim, tube out, new tube in, tire ironed back on, axle in, chain on, blocks in, adjusters back tight and axle nut torqued down. I've never done it faster than 20or25minutes, and that when everything went perfect. Most of the time it's a 30-35 deal. Front I can do in 15min, but who ever gets a flat front
@orlandoberry40318 ай бұрын
@@PisgahGravelProject - regarding the time - I have a much simpler bike, undo the axel nut push the axel out and take the tyre and wheel out. Simple.

Hi John, How is Vstrom 800DE for on road normal touring with pillion rider to munch miles and other travel accessories like saddle bag, top box, tank bag etc ? is it comfortable ?
@thecornishbiker93238 ай бұрын
Thinking of "chopping " my mt10sp in for a tenere, tried the world raid and that tank makes it as wide as it is long! Now im tempted by the explore version as you get tft and better suspension. And you also get lower seat height for those shorter people. Chopsy do you think they are fun enough on the road to be your only bike....or do i still need a sport bike to scratch that itch.?
