Guys, go look at Iron Treads Sleeping (yeah despite being "robots" the Iron Pokemon sleep and eat), it rocks itself back and forth in its Tread! The seemingly robotic pokemon performs an action instinctive to organic life: seeking comfort. They aren't robots, THEY'RE CYBORGS UNDER A MECHANICAL EXOSKELETON! On that note I think Volcaron had the easiest transition, it swapped out its Chitin Exoskeleton for a metal one.

One thing you have to keep in mind with Chien-Pao is that the sword IS the Pokémon, not the snow leopard/weasel thing. That's basically just a construct created in order to move around, so it makes sense that the sword fragments would pierce the construct's face since they would stick better, and it's not like it would hurt or anything (hell, if anything, whatever pain Chien-Pao feels would probably stem from the fact that the sword, its actual body, is broken into two pieces)
@EpicScizor
@EpicScizor Жыл бұрын
I honestly would have liked it better if the swords pierced it's body or perhaps eyes, but I can easily see that being too violent for current gen Pokemon. As is the swords are just... Too long for the pseudo-fangs they're meant to look like.

Paradox pokemon are essentially convergent evolutions taken from diferent eras (the very distant past or the very distant future) that are also meant to be like the "big foots" of the pokemon world. So the weird names and the primitive/robotic designs make sense in my eyes since they're supposed to be like cryptids (that are creatures from cryptozoology and ufology mainly known from anecdotal stories and other claims rejected by the scientific community). Which is why they all resemble known creatures but also have descriptions with bizarre lore and why they're featured in tabloids like the occulture magazine.

Clodsire is not only adorable, it’s also great execution of a really cool concept! Basically the skull and crossbones on Wooper/Clod aren’t just because of the poison typing; They’re also based off the Iberian ribbed newt, which is a salamander that has sharp rips. When it’s threatened, it arches its back, poking its sharp bone spikes out at attackers. Its skin regenerates soon after, though, so don’t worry. That’s what the things that come out of clodsire’s back are.

Spidops feels like an old-school spy and I cherish that. Being a spy doesn't need some cool tuxedo agents style to it. Rather, the more it can blend in the background, the better, and in this case, it has a countryside feel to it, like a retired agent maybe. Bombirdier is in this region mainly because of two reasons: cranes are very very typical and famous here in Spain, they're even symbolic animals on some places (like Extremadura); and because one of its inspirations, if not the main one, is the italian Fiat BR.20 Cicogna ("crane" in italian), a medium bomber plane used mainly and for the first time in the Spanish Civil War. Fair! I think it’s the “cute for certain tastes” way. Kinda like a pug, or certain rodents: to some, they’re ugly as sin, or too weird to be adorable. To others, they’re precious babies who need love. I think it’s the humor or weirdness that can make people go one way or another, it’s like when a sculpture has chisel marks. They’re imperfections that are understandable, a mark that wasn’t removed or actively permitted, but it also gives it character, and for some it’s why they love it, while for others they dislike it.

Here's my hot take, I actually think the future paradox pokemon and past paradox pokemon have really interesting naming conventions. They are both really blurry and unreal, but in totally different ways. They're designed to give these creatures a lack of identity. They don't have specific names like pokemon do. It's describing the origins of these pokemon I think. For example, the past paradox mons are more immediately descriptive like a cave man trying to describe something to avoid or see. Watch out for the roaring moon or the fluttering mane. It's premoderm, random and chaotic. The future paradox pokemon are descriptive in a colder sense. Like a scentific catalogue very uniform and concise. It's criticize for being bland and that's a good thing because it's supposed to be bland. Iron Bundle, Iron Hands, Iron Moth. Think of a real species like "yellow-headed house finch" it's the same concept, but taken to an extreme.

Honestly, it makes me think of Scovillain in a way A lot of what it has going for it is the new thing it introduced (the former being an ice type Pseudo-Legend, the latter being a fire/grass) type being most of what's going for it, while the design just ends up looking...off, and a bit goofy

This line has grown on me fsr. Ik it's bland but I get where the fighting type comes from because of it. Like the Pokedex image shows in 17:10 , it looks like the entire line is practicing some martial art skit or something with let in let out (imagine that Kung Fu Panda 2 scene of Po reaching inner piece whilst channeling the water droplet). At the same time, I think the line's naming convention, related with the above imagery, is cute lol, like the three forms of Paw or something ha-ha. Also, that small blue circle on its paw just keeps on reminding me of iron man... Well, I get that the entire line is bland tho, I was disliking it too at first.

The one thing that I can't, with everything that just feels particularly off in these games, for the life of me, understand is...why Pawmo is noticeably lighter than Pawmi Pawmott instantly reverts it back to Pawmi shade, so...did they just do that to differentiate Pawmo and Pawmi? Because if that was needed to tell the difference, that's how you can *tell it's a problem* !

If you played Scarlet, I'm curious how much you've seen of the Violet paradox Pokémon. The main appeal with them, for me at least, is the super unique animations. The way Iron Bundle launches its head off on a spring, the way Iron Moth emotes like one of those robot dog toys and moves its wings in front of it to attack, etc.. The only truly bad one is Iron Jugulis, who actually has nothing interesting about it. But I will say, the idea of actual speculative evolution designs instead of just robots would have been pretty cool. I have also realized you forgot to even mention Flutter Mane, which I think is a testament to its... existence.

@@rowenwatson5151 It's one of the only times where "X Pokemon but More" actually makes sense to me. Dunsparce is based on a Tsuchinoko, which is literally just a fat snake yokai. So it makes sense that Dudunsparce is simply a bigger Tsuchinoko. A joke of a yokai being the inspiration for a joke pokemon just works for me. Plus it's name literally sounds like a rim shot at the end of a joke. Ba-Dum-Tiss, Du-Dun-Sparce.

- If it helps with Meowscarada, one of the most classic stage magic props is a bouquet of flowers. Y'know, that trick where they make the bouquet appear out of nowhere? Just like in the Flower Trick move? - Oh! I only just noticed that Iron Jugulis's entire upper head is an LED screen, not just its eyes! So that's why it looked much brighter than the blue on its body. - There's a lot of speculation that the Paradox Pokemon don't even come from distant eras, but are rather imaginative constructs of...whatever powers Area Zero. That could be a small part of why they're all strictly just dinosaurs and robots. What do you think?

I 100 percent agree with you. There's clearly something going on with the third legendary. If the theories turn out to be true, it seems to be one of the only Pokémon besides Arceus that can actually create other Pokémon- though it can only create them based on the imaginations of others... I like the concept of Paradox Pokémon, and the execution on both sides seems pretty hit-and miss. Scream Tail and Flutter Mane are rather disappointing design-wise, imo. On the future side, Iron Jugulis leaves a good amount to be desired in terms of design- because Iron Hands already took the floating limbs idea.

Honestly there isn't a single Pokémon this gen I actively dislike, like even the ones I'm not a fan of have something to them I enjoy. when it to the paradox forms I will say I vastly prefer scarlets, but seeing the animations of violets greatly increases my enjoyment of them, like the fact that when they sleep they turn off and how iron treads rolls with its body staying upright, and speaking of iron treads and great tusk, I don't think they could have chosen a better Pokémon than Doniphan, the tyre mammoth Pokémon, to have as the one you see first in both versions, with the original being a mixture between something old and something new to begin with. Also fun thing I noticed with the treasures of ruin Pokémon is that the seals that hold them are all coloured as the types they each are weak too (poison, water, grass, and either fire or fighting, I lean to fighting cause its more orange than red) , I like to think its due to some old form of typed tera crystals built into the shrines.

• All of the problems you had with Skeledirge sounded more like you hated the 3D model and not the actual Pokemon, the art is so much better • Pawmo has different hair, a different tail, larger size, different color, fully-functioning electric sacs, more developed muscles that let it stand upright and unlock its nascent Fighting type, and an extra finger. Those are the differences, I get that they're similar but they're supposed to be. The line is growing up, and it's a great example of how sometimes you have to look closely to tell that something is a different species, and in this case Pawmo's differences from Pawmi definitely require it to be a different species. Just like Finizen and Palafin. If anything, its Pawmi that is the redundant one, cuz it's an underdeveloped Pawmo and the one that would be cut if they were cutting any of them. Pawmo is my favorite one but I love the whole line and their subtle differences. The game would not benefit at all if any of them were cut. There would just be less to enjoy. • I'm glad you got the joke with Dudunsparce, but you're wrong to say we'd be better off without a Dunsparce evo. Dudunsparce absolutely needed to happen. People needed to learn once and for all that it's not a dragon, it's a silly yokai and it's going to stay that way. And the fact that it is segmented now really drives home its tsuchinoko and nozuchi inspirations, and adds the punchline to the joke Dunsparce already was. Its segments managed to complete its thematic fantasy while staying true to its inspirations AND still managing to make it more serpentine for us snake lovers out there. Dudunsparce is an 11/10, one of the best cross-gen evos we've had, because they perfectly understood the assignment. • Spidops is a Tsuchigumo

I'm honestly surprised that lockstin didn't like skeledirge. The first truly "monstery" starter since, like, gen 5 (as in I can't see someone turning it into a fursuit without heavy modification to the design) and it's just not his jam I guess. Never thought of the fire as hair, I always thought it was billowing from the mouth like with mega charizard x while also acting as a used up, broken nest for the fire bird, which I also love. The wombo combo of showing symbiosis between crocs and birds, while also giving skeledirge a mic for their dirges, AND giving us an example of pokemon that consist of two seperate individuals without it being literally just two of the same creatures like tandemaus or diglett?! 👌 PLUS the reference to land crocodilimorphs like kaprosuchus by giving it a rounded tail rather than a paddled one? Perfect way to do a hydrophobic crocodile. My only real complaint with skeledirge is why does the chest (and fire for that matter of fact ) have such a sharp angle to it? Really would've preferred that to be smoothed out, makes him look a little blocky. Oh well, I guess I just wanted to gush over skeledirge for a bit. If you don't like them that's your prerogative lockstin.

The tail is also shaped like a saxophone, its head looks like a sugar skull from dia de los muertos, the patterns on its snout both allude to the skulls of dia de los muertos and also a glockenspiel or xylophone, the hair is the color and shape of marigolds, which are the flowers of the dead, the body resembles trencadís sculptures while the color makes it look like a tuxedo, giving it an opera singer look. I guess I am just an extreme minority in terms of taste. The first time I saw both Skeledirge & Espathra, I adored them. I thought they were perfectly-executed designs that would be the next biggest hits in the fandom….boy was I off by a mile. I’m so disappointed that when we finally got a quadruped fire starter that looks like a beast rather than a mascot, fans that wanted that for the longest time aren’t appreciating it. I know it’s mainly the design elements they dislike….but I can’t shake that there’s hypocrisy & and impossibly to please fans. They ask for something, & *whoop* , they hate what they asked for. I think we should all at least appreciate Skeledirge for going in the right direction even if some of the details aren’t well-liked. But I do 100% agree with Baxcalibur. It feels so corporate & just a re-designed Duraludon. I also agree with Bombirdier.

Nobody is complaining about the fact that it's a quadruped, and I think expressing that you don't like a design is acceptable. The bones are just drawn on rather than including a skeletal shape, and the shape it ended up with is really weird and angular, not really resembling anything. The texture is also very flat compared to an actual crocodile, and the proportions are off in a way that makes it look goofy but not enough to feel intentional. What I'm getting at is there are valid reasons to dislike Skeledirge even if the concept is cool and it has good features. I personally do like Skeledirge but don't find criticisms to be hypocritical.
