Great whiskey but you’re spot on (pun intended), that price increase makes a rebuy hard to justify. Great video Peter!

Costco had it for $115.00. That's a little more tolerable of a price. Irish whiskey is out of control as far as their price increases.

I paid $150 for this in Kentucky because I'd been wanting one for awhile 😮. Great bottle, though!

Every few months it goes up in price in my area. I don't think it will ever stop. 😞

I’ve had all the Spots in the past 2 years. Batch variations not withstanding, the original Gold 9 was my favorite, but that is now gone or outrageously marked up. And after Gold, the Yellow was best. Just beautiful stuff. I can still get it for $100 US.

I personally like the yellow, but it's up to $135 in my area. Way too much money.

Pete, I appreciate how you have integrated 'how the whiskey evolves in the glass' within your scoring framework. I enjoy whiskies that give me different looks as I spend more time with the dram.

Absolutely wonderful whiskey. My favorite SPOT expression. Unfortunately the high price is prohibitive. On presentation alone I would score it at least a 4.25.

It's my favorite as well. I kept seeing the price rise each month. I would not be surprised to see it go up another $5 in a month or two. I hope it doesn't, but I won't be surprised if it does.

Solid review. For me it is a 4.2 and one of my favorite Irish whiskeys as well as a daily sipper. The price is ridiculous and really happy it is still 104 by me. I did grab 2 at the Loop in Dublin for €60 each last month to fly to Ireland to buy whiskey for the prices TW charges A Teeling at TW by me is $89 but by my brother is $229 just ridiculous Getting to be worth the price of a ticket

Thanks. Costco has it for $115 and I think that's still too much, but I might get desperate enough to pull the trigger at that price. We'll see what I do once the bottle's gone.

Awesome review. I always appreciate a little history. Thanks for another interesting story to go along with your review.

Thanks. Sometimes the story behind the whisk(e)y makes it taste better. You're drinking history and that's fascinating to me sometimes. Cheers!

It's $120.00 in AL, totally agree with your assessment. I actually traded for a bottle with a friend so I still have 1 unopened and 1 opened (half) so haven't had to worry about not having it yet.

I'll be sad when it's empty, but $135 is too much to spend to replace it.

Just got a bottle of Yellow Spot 12yr for £54 from duty free in Dublin. Tried the Spot range whilst in Galway. Not cheap as a single dram cost €11.50 in Salthill but promoted me to buy a bottle in duty free. Being non EU the prices of Red Breast, Red, Green & Yellow Spot were excellent.
@whiskeyisajourney Жыл бұрын
I would put Yellow Spot at the top of my list in the Spot lineup.

@@whiskeyisajourney I have too agree with you. I tried Green, Red & Yellow and definitely Yellow stood out as a lovely dram. The other 2 are still excellent drams also.

Great review Peter! I got a bottle of this before the price hike and didn’t feel compelled to replace it….especially when it’s more expensive the the Redbreast 15 in my market.
@whiskeyisajourney Жыл бұрын
Yellow Spot and a Redbreast 15 are the same price in my area and I'm just about out of both. I like them both, but will not be replacing either of them when they are gone. I'll stick with RB 12 CS and Green Spot.

I go back and forth between the Blue and the Yellow as my favorite. I think the Blue is more of a mood pour due to the high proof.

I like your Videos Peter. I also love yellow spot and would have scored it 4.25 or higher. The price is not always controlled by the producer. Total wine, near me, sells this for 154 USD ( I said no thanks). I passed through the Dublin airport in March 2024 and picked up yellow spot for 76 euros. I can get yellow spot shipped from a Dublin liquor store for 77 euro ( plus shipping). The only spot I like better is blue spot that cost about 100 euros from the Jameson store but I get the vat back so its about 84 euros per bottle. You might score the whiskey on its merits and give it a second score including price (just a thought).

Thank you. It would be a good value if it was under $100. But that ship has sailed.

Paid the equivalent of $80 for it in South Africa (R1400). It's still pricey, but watching review videos on KZbin, my heart goes out the Whiskey lovers abroad.

That is a great bottle in the spot lineup. It was my favorite and I loved that Malaga sweetness. I have had a couple of bottles over the last couple of years but has now gone up some 30%+ in price. There are a couple of wine finish releases in the Green spot range that I may try, Chateau Montelena and the Qails Gate which maybe worth a look for me next. As much as I love the Yellow Spot, I cannot justify it at $130+. Great Irish whiskey though.

It's the best Irish whiskey I've ever had. That said, it was a fantastic gift, and I won't be buying a replacement. IMO, head and shoulders above Redbreast 12.

I get a unique linseed oil flavor, that I haven't found in other spot whiskies or other whiskey. I bought my first bottle in Ireland, and it was a 700ml. A week after I got home, it hit the shops in NJ. 750ml bottles and cheaper than in Ireland. 😥

It's decent whiskey, but way overpriced - disappointed with the bottle I bought. Many better options at that price point. Powers John's Lane at $65 is much better value (same distillery).

Since I shot the video the price went up even more. It's getting way out of control. Powers is moving up the ranks for me.
