A Bumble Bee Pillow Pet are you dumb... in college race walking is considered a track and field event, there are much shorter events (3k..) just like there is no college marathon. And it would be valuable to a coach if a runner was consistently top 3 bringing in lots of points for the team.

Jon Smith average marathon runner is around 5 minutes per mile so sub 6 is shooting a bit too high for us average folk. I'd be surprised if most joggers achieve anything below 7-8 minutes per mile, and imo that's a pretty good pace.
@jonsmith5626
@jonsmith5626 8 жыл бұрын
Jeury Veloz Eh I did crosscountry and track in high school and college and have worked with people as an athletic shoe salesperson. If you are average athletically or maybe even just above average I believe you can do a sub 6 (or something around 6:10). It won't be fun but it's doable. We aren't talking a marathon of sub 6 miles, just 1. And for Marathons that makes sense, you're running a marathon, train those guys to run a 5k or 10k and their mile splits will be very different.

I’ve actually done race walk races and it’s extremely hard. I go to William Penn University and I’m on the track team here and since we’re are in the NAIA instead of the NCAA, race walking is an actual event. I did the 3k racewalk at my conference championship for indoor season and finished 9th in the conference. The training absolutely destroys your shins and after about 250m of the race you feel a constant burn up your legs. The training is just like any other distance runner besides you walk instead of run. I did 800m repeats walking, 200m intervals, it’s very similar. The worst part is the judges. I got to two fouls during the championships and it’s extremely scary knowing if I plant my leg wrong and buckle at the knee or push off to hard and lift off the ground for a fraction of a second near a judge, it could all be for nothing. It’s an awesome sport that looks goofy but people should definitely look into

Yeah, imagine telling anyone that you are taking over three and a half steps... every second! In a race that takes 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete. Man, my beer arm is dead just thinking about it. That's 12,600 steps or so. Over 31 plus miles. "Racewalking requires the strength and agility of a gymnast, the grace and control of a dancer, the endurance and perseverance of a Marathon runner." ~ Larry Young, two-time Olympic Games Medalist, 50km Walk, USA. Danny 2lit actually many people in the sport of race walking do use steroids, this is why before and after races everyone must be drug tested. One Australian Race walker came 2nd in the London Olympics only to find out 4 years later that the guy who won was using drugs so the Australian guy got the gold medal! And hip implants wouldn’t help because it’s not how big your hips are it’s the motion of your hips. I hope this helps answer your question !

Was the original race walkers actually swaying their hips like that when they first competed on it or was it a product of later competitors who saw the benefit of racing that way?
@Lundy.Fastnet.Irish_Sea
@Lundy.Fastnet.Irish_Sea 6 жыл бұрын
zenmar probably the latter. Olympics gets more complicated over the years as people try to score more. They find new techniques to be better than the others, then soon, the others copy. Even if they've done the wriggle walk since the first olympics, the development of the technique must have went through that kind of development.

Jorge Gatcan And another way is crawling. Or skipping. Or rolling along he ground. Why aren't they Olympic events? I don't agree with those other swimming strokes either. As far as I'm concerned it should be about the fastest way to cover distance on foot or by swimming, not introducing ridiculous ways so those that can't keep up in the serious event can have a shiny medal too. I'm outside the US, and 'racewalking' is openly mocked where I am, as it should be.

My uncle was a winner in a few race walking competitions. My other uncle was a track star. Both my parents did sports back in Kenya...mom did field hockey. Can't remember what dad did. But I think they also did track. And there is me. Growing up people would ask me if im a runner..was it because I was Kenyan...or I...looked like I would be a good runner? All I know is I hated running and would come in almost last, if not dead last in our mile races we had to do every few months in school. My fastest mile was in HS, at like 9:36. LOL. The only other best ive had was doing a 6 mile bike trail in under 15 minutes, months before it took me 45 minutes and was pure torture, lol. Now 34...some reason, they were in my recommends, I just began watching these track and field competitions...first time I ever watched Usain Bolt, WOW JUST WOW, and there are a whole lot of Kenyans I didnt even know we compete in these races lol! Anyway...im feeling a motivated to get into some training...I have always wanted to win a charity run (do you win those?lol) and always wanted to compete in at least one of those obstacle course events they have...like Spartan!

HOW TO BECOME AN OLYMPIC SPORT or DISCIPLINE - Let's use "race crawling" as an example · The IAAF would have to recognize it as legitimate · A semi-decent schedule of events should happen · National, continental and World championships would need to be held · Competitors should come from as many countries as possible, it has to be very intercontinental · Some kind of qualification system for the Olympics would need to be created Right now, for example, the UCI (cycling) is making BMX freestyle fairly formal and has completed almost all the steps to have park medal events by 2024. Here are the steps they are making · UCI recognized BMX freestyle as something legitimate · The FISE tour now includes the UCI-sanctioned BMX Freestyle World Cup with 5 competitions in 3 continents in 2016 · Still no continental or World championships... but having an annual World Cup is a very big deal · Competitors already from both Americas, Europe and Asia · Still no qualifying format for the Olympics
