Thanks for watching! Despite what you might see in the video, Bhutan was actually quite challenging for me to travel to. The trip was planned very last minute so I didn't have time to do much research, I was still jet-lagged from the 14-hr time difference and the elevation was having weird effects on my headspace. But I pushed through even though filming alone in these conditions makes it so much harder to bring positive energy into it. Sitting down with the ex-Prime Minister and hiking to Tiger's Nest completely changed everything in the end however. I'm on a bit of a personal journey of understanding what the fundamental parameters of joy truly are, so going on a trip like this had quite of a profound effect on me in the end. Hope you got something out of it and looking forward to capturing more of the world's beauty. - Thomas

Lily A. There is not a single person in Bhutan who had not met the kings. Our kings travel to the remotest places just to meet the locals. So if ever, the foreigners are given the chance to get an audience exclusively then it is because we love to make our guest feel special as well as, is a symbol for showing the warm hospitality and respect. No Bhutanese will be offended or feel deprived of equal opportunity to interact or take photo because we have all meet our kings and we love you all to have that experience too.

Their ex prime minister was such a genuine, nice guy. The whole conversation just made me smile. And he had such an important point- enlightened leadership is the key to happiness and success for a nation. I don't know if we'll ever reach that point in the U.S, but it sure would be nice.

@@thinleydorji3749 There is a difference between I cannot and I do not. You yourself said that India helps you everyday. I simply wanted to say that the geography and sparse sporadic population of Bhutan is not conducive to set up big industries there. There is difference between saying " We would not set up big industries because the cost- benefit ratio is too low" and saying "We would not set up big industries because we care so much about nature and human happiness." Get real. Of course you are selling that concept to the gullible and rich foreign travellers. Tourism is a great part of your economy , you can't deny that. I do not have anything against Bhutan or Bhutanese people. For every country, there are some constrains due to past history , geographical location and economics.Who knows, perhaps this little debate will continue in your house in Bhutan with cups of hot tea between us ! I know what our country did long ago and it was a horrible thing, but we shouldn’t have set backs cause of this, please understand that it was from religious and cultural reasons and if we didn’t have such things, it wouldn’t have ever happened. Just let us be happy now, bhutan and Nepal are having reconciliation after these many years, Nepal has also done bad things in the past as well, so why don’t we talk about that? Will that boost you more? We’re sorry if we have ever offended you in any way, but we are getting closer to a better world, not now, and it never will go faster, but we can make it the best we’ve got. When I asked my Bhutanese guide why people are so happy here, he replied "In Western culture there is a big emphasis on 'becoming successful,' however you may die before you ever reach your desired level of success. Given that, why not focus on being with your loved ones, now?" Their society VALUES things differently to us; they have their priorities in order. We could learn from that. Money may perhaps be necessary for survival in the West, but that survival will not have been worth the effort if working for it came at the cost of connecting with the ones we love. Choose wisely.

I cried watching this video because I'm so happy to see Buddhism being acknowledged in the western world. I am a Buddhist and I think it is such an underrated religion with full of wisdom and compassion. I absolutely know how Thomas felt when he said he had the most intense spiritual moment of his life. I have the same feelings when I go to the temples. Just by looking at the giant Buddha status, I feel the peace in my mind. I can "hear " Buddha telling me "NOTHING in this material world matters, let go of your ego and things that don't matter, and just be compassionate and everything is gonna be ok. You are home now" I cry almost every time I visit a temple, and this religion definitely helped me in many many ways. I really hope more people can get to know Buddhism and apply Buddhism philosophies in their lives. This world will be a better place with more compassionate and loving people.

Be it Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Judiasm, Buddhism, etc. In the end it's kindness towards all sentient beings that all religions try to preach. It's just that some of the teachings got lost in translation due to differences between the mediators. That said, it's never wrong to keep learning about all religions and respect them. Cheers from Bhutan.

I had the privilege of visiting Tibet in 2017 and I experienced that same, heavy-chested feeling. The spirituality emanates from Buddhist countries that have their religion heavily embedded into their everyday lives and it was so wonderful seeing a glimpse of a similar country!

About 6 years ago, i was around 12 years old and I was on this school trip to Bhutan. At the end of our trip, we visited the tigers nest. I trekked up the mountain with the group, all the way-4-4.5km i think, could be less. I couldn't enter the temple because i was wearing shorts!!!! Had to wait for a few hours outside the temple until the group came back out. But those few hours were heavenly, mesmerizing, surreal- I am going back to the tigers next, with pants this time.

This really shows the beauty of Bhutan. The Ex-primeminister agreed to meet a KZbinr from half way across the earth free of cost and with no political agenda at a moment's notice. When my parents had visited Bhutan they told me of a tradition that even the king is supposed to stop wherever he is if someone asks him to and address the problem. This shows why people say that Bhutan may be the happiest place on earth. I really admire their people and their way of life. Really one of the most caring and genuine people on the planet.
