Hey guys, this is Julia from Belarus. Just watched the video (was crying and laughing all the time!), still cannot believe that this journey was real. How fascinating life is. You were my inspiration and motivation, I went through some difficult times with you, your videos made me believe that I could do anything in this world. But meeting you on regular rainy day was something I would be thankfull forever (the weather obviously was not giving the vibes that some magic could happen). There was so much more to this trip: it was right and comfortable (in discomfort), joyful and crazy, real and not real at the same time. Because of the love that you spread I felt so myself during this adventure. You are real people, the most honest, grateful and kindest humans I've ever met. You really make this world better, you do. This video reminds me of the time my mum, brother, and I were travelling on the trans-siberian railway in 2016, we met a girl staying on the same carriage who had spent the last 10 years learning English, but we were the first English speaking people she had ever met, and she spoke so well!! We knew her for two days on the train, and as we were heading to Novosibirsk, she told us "before you leave from the train, please wait, my brother has gifts for you". Turns out, she is an artist, and her brother is a woodworker, she had sent him drawings of designs she had drawn, and he had wood carved Russia with a bear and a kangaroo on it (we're Australian), with the words "From the Gerasimov family to the Lawson family", and a few other beautiful wood carved pieces. It was the sweetest display of kindness ever!! She was just so thankful to be able to speak English to native speakers for the first time in her life. Russian and Eastern countries' kindness and warmth is one of the best things in the world. My mum still proudly displays the carvings in her house, and we love to tell others the story of how we were given them. Its so important to recognise kindness and love

As someone who has lived in Canada for 20 years, and has followed you since your time in Montreal, while being born and raised in Belarus, this one hit so so close to home. Thank you for doing what you do, uncovering kindness in people even in the harshest (from the outside) places, despite all the circumstances. Thank you for venturing out of the capital to a small village and bringing back memories of my grandparents and my childhood in Belarus. Thank you for this. I am a 52 year old man who has been out of work for 2 years due to anxiety caused by working as a inner-city teacher and my last parent passing in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. Since then, I feel I have seen more heinous and ugly people than ever. The negativity seen from our government and growing up thinking all communist people are bad. I came to tears watching how the people of Belarus opened their homes to complete strangers and offered their hospitality and more. In my neighborhood, in the city of Indianapolis, I feel very unsafe to do such things. Just this week, we had a salesperson punch a guy in his home because he did not want the salesperson on his property. There are other instances, too! It sounds to me like we have a lot more to learn from the rest of the world. Thank you for spreading kindness. It is appreciated more than you may realize.

As a child, we had a child come to our home through a local program. It was called Children of Chernobyl . It was to match children with families in my city in Canada and get them out of the toxic air from Chernobyl. The boy was named Nikolai and he was 12. He was from Belarus. Its nice to see a documentary that doesn't demonize the country. I am an American, and I've been to Belarus several times, and I've been at all those locations in Minsk in the video. Its a beautiful country, rich in history and culture. The people as you say don't seem friendly, its because its not in their culture to smile and say hello, as here in America, we sometimes do. But once you talk to people, they are often talkative. I've never had a negative interaction with people there, nobody beat me down in the streets because I'm American. But often they're just interested in my opinion of the country. And I always say its beautiful, clean, delicious food, and I love the culture and history. I encourage more people to visit and see for themselves that its a great country to visit! Fun fact: their KFC tastes better than U.S. KFC 😉 🇺🇲🤝🇧🇾☮🕊

I was born and lived there for 24 years until I moved to Europe, where I have been living for 8 years now. I can now plan for the future, can you imagine? We can afford a house, a car, food, trips to other countries, save money for the future (and we are simple immigrants, we had nothing with us but a few bags of clothes, a pillow and blanket and a few thousand dollars gifted by relatives). My wife literally saved on food and asked her parents for money when she lived and worked in Minsk (and she worked as an architect, not in a low-level job). A huge number of people are literally on the bottom two levels of Maslow's pyramid of needs. I'm literally scared to go there because of what I've written in comments under political posts and liked them. I've seen criminal cases and people who have been tortured in prisons just for daring to take to the streets after the 2020 election or write something against it. I see 4 years of terror against those who haven't been caught yet. I don't want to go through this humiliation at the border with checks of your correspondence and interrogations (I am aware of similar humiliation with interrogations at American airports). If you don't protest, don't write anything about the authorities - you will live in peace and most likely nobody will touch you. No one will ever think of beating you up for being an American or any other foreigner (wtf???), it has never happened and will never happen. People literally grow up on American culture and enjoy the benefits of the western world. They are interested in socialising with people from a different culture. Many of them have never left the country their whole lives, like Julia (I hope she does go to Italy). All in all - Belarus is a great country, it's very cool that foreigners are coming there and discovering it for themselves. __EVERYTHING__ in that video is an absolute crystal truth. The only problem is those who control the country. And we should remember that only for this single reason Belarus is hell for many Belarusians. Hope you got my point, sorry for longread

I remember how our car was broken in the middle of a field somewhere in Belarus and there was a babushka, who just sat near her house and felt lonely. We asked if we could stay in her house while one of us would drive car to nearest city and fix it. We stayed with her for almost a day, she was very poor, but simple, told miscellaneous stories and tried to feed us and even offered to stay at night to not drive though darkness.

I studied in Belarus 10 years ago and used to go there every year, when there were still flights. I've visited almost 50 countries by now but Belarus is still my #1 favorite. I liked how Thomas was surprised that she had worked hard for her produce and then she just gave it away to him. It's very common in these countries to sometimes even overproduce. And then it is better to give away than let it go to waste, as often we can't be bothered to try and sell it for profit. Last year my parents had such a big harvest of tomatoes that even after making bucket loads of tomato juice and tomato puree, and different pickles, they were still giving away fresh tomatoes by the kilos to neighbours and friends of theirs.

​@@GrafVladan а вот не согласен, мои родители всегда были городскими жителями, работали программистами в автоматизации и банковской сфере, но пару лет назад купили себе дачу и теперь вполне себе аграрии. Дело не в поколениях как мне кажется, а в возможностях. Если есть земля и свободное время, чтобы ее возделывать, многие на старости лет наслаждаются таким образом жизни.

Love the video, especially meeting older people, looking at their homes, and talking to them. I do have a suggestion. The token of appreciation is awesome, but please consider this: if you had a Polaroid camera with you and took photos with these people to give to them on the spot, I bet they would be so happy and remember it for the rest of their lives. Plus, they would show and share the story with strangers over a drink, like vodka. Think about it. This video made me cry a few times. These awesome old ladies are unbelievably sweet and lovely. I am Serbian, and you should stop by Serbia one day too.

Not a single good humanitarian result will come from discussing the geopolitical situation in the region, which has taken untold number of lives. The net result of such discussion will be negative. This channel is about optimism and humanity, and geopolitics are unfortunately the opposite. Look at the individual--NOT the system!

I'm a romanian living in the UK, and you going to the countryside, and having those experiences really moved me and really reminded me of my grandparents back home . Exactly the same energy and same welcoming that almost all the people from Eastern European countries have . I'm sure that everyone who watched this feels the same as me .
