Dude, not cool. Osamu Tezuka died of stomach cancer in February of1989. He was known as the Japanese Walt Disney and the 1965 Kimba series was the first anime broadcast in color. That's a very big deal. I have lost love ones to cancer and I know firsthand what sort of pain they went through. I can only imagine what he went through, especially with stomach cancer. Adum is right, and as a MAJOR Tezuka fan, it REALLY pisses me off that people only know him as the "Disney rip off guy". Like it actively upsets me. Especially when Kimba isn't evenly NEARLY some of his best work. Being both one of his earliest manga and anime, and being an extremely poor example of his true masterpieces like Phoenix, Buddha, Message to Adolf and Apollo's Song. Honestly thank FUCK for that Dororo anime that came out recently because at least it's SOMETHING Tezuka wrote being put in the public eye to a Western audience that isn't fucking Kimba. Sorry if I commented on these highlights with a similar message before but I'm mad X'D. And Adum gets too many messages on twitter and YT for some random asshole (me) to be like "Yeah Tezuka's other work is really cool!" and not actually contribute anything to the conversation. tldr; Adum's right and the Kimba Conspiracy theorists (because I refuse to call them fans simply based on their behaviour) are assholes who have tarnished Tezuka's reputation and importance.

@dilophosaurus65 well, tezuka popularized most budget saving used in anime to this day. Astroboy is comically cheap. He also scammed everyone and was in the forefront of exploiting work while technically not breaking the law. The big bang of anime production came from people being sick of working for him. But also all the good stuff you always hear. So his reputation is a mixed bag, way too complex to be grasped by the kimba conspiracy guys. BTW in the Kimba manga (and I don't think this happens in the anime but I'm not sure) Kimba starts wearing Mickey Mouse-like shorts with suspenders and walks on hind legs as he further tries to elevate the jungle animals to the sophistication of humans. (He becomes disillusioned by humans later on as he grows older thanks to his numerous run-ins with poachers and criminals, leading to him rejecting the human sophistication and why he stops speaking to humans as an adult). I don't see Kimba fans bring that up that much....

Tezuka Productions NEVER wanted to sue Disney. The confusion comes from a quote where a Tezuka Productions spokesperson said "we're a small weak company, and Disneys lawyers are among the best in the world", but what they neglect to mention is that quote was in reference to colleagues in the industry telling them they should sue, and that's what he was saying in response. One was about a lion who wanted all the other jungle animals to be part of some inter species brother hood, where as the other, seemed to be based on Shakespearean court intrigue. If anyone is interested, the Shawn Keller colleague that Ladd and YMS mentioned is named Phil Young. Young left Dinsey in 2002 on not the best terms, after working for Dinsey for about 25 years. www.revealingcartoons.com/exclusives/interview/phil-young disney.fandom.com/wiki/Phil_Young

I just realized this is the exact same thing when people accused Disney/Pixar of stealing the entire Finding Nemo story from some African children's story and Disney won the lawsuit and I was told that the only reason Disney won is because they had "better lawyers and more money"

Kimba fan here, but even as an 6-7 year old kid I knew how different it was from TLK and I hated how people claimed they were the same without even watching it lmao

@@michaelstrong5383 Casual Kimba fan but only because I'm a Tezuka fan. As in I've seen a few episodes ofKimba, the movie, and read some of the manga (I like Tezuka's adult stories more) and no. TLK has nothing to do with Kimba.

It's like that scene in South Park where they spend weeks training to kill that videogame troll and when it's over they're like "now we can finally play the game".

It did feel like he paused his Lion King 2019 review just to demolish the whole Kimba/TLK controversy. While I'm still looking forward to his Kimba video, I'm more interested on him continuing to tear TLK 2019 apart.

Its like watching an anime arc, but then halfway the anime takes a detour with a filler arc. That way the manga has time to go further ahead 😂

Imagine being upset that popular lion cartoon gets more attention than lion cartoon you like so you doctor clips to prove a faulty point to win respect points from strangers on Twitter. Disney is guilty of a lot of shit but THIS is the hill people wanna die on? Wild... The video was legendary btw YMS, keep up the good work!

Ghost Rider is a horror-themed vigilante, a regular slacker type guy with a symbiotic relationship to a cosmic entity that uses lethal means and fear tactics on occasion. Venom is a horror-themed vigilante, a regular slacker type guy with a symbiotic relationship to a cosmic entity that uses lethal means and fear tactics on occasion. "Those are people responsible for things turning out terribly." Only when you hear about them. When they do their job well, they can be invaluable. But also, when they do their job well, you never hear about them because they don't go around inserting themselves into the discussion. "Because people love this property more than your property." Except Kimba isn't really anybody's property anymore. None of these people have seen Kimba. It's not because they want others to like what they like, it's because . . . how to phrase it . . . Bullied anime nerds are quick to leap to the defense of anime in general, even if the specific anime in question is total garbage, because people "bullying" anime is equivalent to bullying them. So, when someone claims Disney is bullying Tezuka's family, or stealing Tezuka's intellectual property, they leap to Tezuka's defense without bothering to learn the facts. To be fair, it's super easy to believe Disney would do that, because they have done that sort of shit many many times in the past. It's just that it's not true in this instance. "He has other accomplishments." Holy shit does he. The man published I think over 9000 volumes of manga on top of overseeing production of a number of anime based on his work. And I'm not memeing there, I think the actual number of volumes of manga he published is literally over 9000. "Tezuka Productions couldn't get the funds (to file a lawsuit)." Pffft. Ha! If anyone thinks Tezuka Productions, representative of the most influential Japanese media creator and current owner and overseer of all his intellectual properties (which number in the hundreds), doesn't have the money to file a lawsuit to protect their own material, they're seriously delusional.
