Hi Gwen! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for to help my hip pain!! The impact was nearly immediate. My hip flexibility is terrible. But thanks to you, my flexibility is starting to improve and I am already feeling better! Thank you so much!! K

Have just discovered this video as I am suffering with hip pain through frequent driving and sitting at a desk. I practice yoga a few times a week so will definitely add these exercises to my routine! Love the clear guidance and advice throughout! Brilliant video! Thank you! x

When dealing with stiffness, pain, or injury, I find it helpful to present poses that are the easiest modifications first. Most/many of these poses are not accessible to people that this video is intended for. It leaves one feeling frustrated and in more pain. With a 35 year history of a regular yoga practice, I did not realize then that that what seemed simple and basic to me in my 20s is not possible in my 50s. Learning to modify and back down with limitations has been a humbling lesson. I do not judge teachers with great flexibility and fitness, but having been through a long yoga journey, I have learned a great deal about aging gracefully while not doing poses that are frustrating or painful. To that point, frog pose, double pigeon, and reclining hero are not realistic. Thankful for the modifications, but with age, it is no longer possible to make progress. It`s about preserving what is is there with gentleness and humility and gratitude.

Loving these moves. Thank you! I recently started having hip pain. I have a history of tight muscle issues (IT, torn ACL, plantar fasciitis, etc). I think it's time to start really listening to my body!

Very informative Gwen, and encouraging for us that are not so flexible. I particularly like the way you explain how to come slowly out of the frog pose. I use the pigeon pose a lot on a tight hip and always have difficulty coming out of the stretch, I realise now that I need to do this in a much slower movement. When using a strap on your leg, stretching daily, realistically how long would it take to achieve a 90 degree or better if you are currently at 80 degrees or so?

I have used this video for years off and on to help with my hips. Now I am older and have some known tracking issues. Do you recommend doing all 3 stages here or can I skip the 1st and get to the 2nd and 3rd?
@GwenLawrenceYoga
@GwenLawrenceYoga 4 жыл бұрын
you can certainly skip if you feel right doing it, if it hurts or you feel weak, go back to one. your body can also feel different each day, so play and pay attention to your personal needs for the day, does that help?

I did this trying to keep from having my hip replaced. Ended up getting hip replaced but with all the moves I learned here and practiced, I was up and walking in a day and back at work in 1.5 weeks. Glad I found this, Thanks Gwen. Dr. Patrick Toy did surgery at Campbells Clinic Memphis,Tn. on table at 10 am home in recliner 3:30 PM. 9 months out hitting golf ball 250+ off Tee on when I connect.

... I think I love you. I used to play soccer in high school as a goalkeeper, used to throw my body around on the ground, etc. Hips are so bad, left leg is almost 2 inches longer than the right. Started playing football and snowboarding. Tore my ACL & MCL snowboarding 2 years ago. Nowadays my lower back hurts so bad I can't stretch my legs and my hips click pretty often when walking. Gave up on flexibility. Standing at work hurts after 5 hours. Wasted so much money on the chiropractor X 3 yrs.

Thank you so much for this!I have a sedentary job (sitting for 6-8h/day/only 30 mins break.Lately, I've been having this annoying feeling on my right hip (it's the back though, not the side).I can't tell if it's in the buttock or the hip? When I press on it it's a little painful. By night, it's a bit annoying, can't sleep well coz of it. Wanted to ask you: 1- If it's really caused by my sedentary job/lack of exercise, how come it's only the right hip? 2-Love your leggings, where can I get them?

not long at all...be persistent and positive and you should conquer that 10 degrees quicker than you think. be in tune and mindful of your knees. breathe in and open up...a lot of hip issues are emotionally related so try to explore forgiveness and letting go

Thank you Gwen awesome video. I experience hip pain and stiffness when I'm in a squat position and that's why I started doing these exercises. I'm a basketball player and I'm fifteen years old and so I'm often forced to bend my knees but feel pain doing it. Do you think these exercises will do it for me? Appreciate it.

It seems more like the muscle that hurts a little, not the the bone. I can totally do all the moves you showed. None of them were painful (even though I haven't exercise for a while). I'm usually a pretty fkexible person. I'm thin (5.4 weight=114.5 pounds). I wonder if the mattress I sleep on is making this worst or is responsible for this pain? (it's an air mattress. I've been sleeping on it for about 3 months (it's flat and it's really for camping and to sleep on for 3 months I think)

i feel you really need to stay with it and open the glute to get the leg length in check. you can focus on stretching the groin with a 5 minute frog hold, still do the pigeon pose, heros pose, squat, even if it is against the wall, and standing forward bend, perhaps holding a sandbag across your forearms . do each pose 3-5 minutes stay committed and keep me posted, the leg length difference is a big deal and will throw off your back and create a multitude of other problems
@GwenLawrenceYoga

you can put blocks under the bent leg hip as high as you need to feel a stretch but not pain in the knee, stick with it and eventually lower down more and more

Do I need to warm up before doing these stretches? My taekwondo teacher always stresses the importance of warming up before stretching, but whenever I watch yoga stretching videos I never hear about warming up beforehand, so I'm a bit confused. I would greatly appreciate it if you could clear that up for me!

you have a VERY different situation. i need you to know that during pregnancy your body releases a hormone called relaxin which changes the pliability of your muscles to accommodate the changes and the baby's size.also the changes in the shape of the hipsn pelvis are enormous. before you begin exercise post baby you need a doctor to clear you and assess your specific situation and make sure your hips and pelvis are back to normal AND your abdominals have retracted back to a position to resume
